Dog, I'm literally Gandalf "oh I remember that..." whenever people bring up anything past two weeks.

Anyone else find their memory is going to shit? Not sure if it's due to the pandemic and being stuck at home watching netflix every day. My short term memory is gone. It was never good, but these days I will regularly do stuff like go to check the mailbox but completely forget why I went down the stairs a moment later, or book an appointment over the phone and not be able to remember the time and date as soon as I hang up and go to make a note. Long term memory seems fine. I can remember old landline phone numbers of teenage girlfriends and chemistry formulas from school that I've never had any use for in my entire life. Maybe my brain has just run out of storage space.

Yeah, my short term memory seems to have suddenly evaporated over the past year. It's kinda worrying.
I can still remember plot elements from 80s tv shows, but I'll decide that I need to remember to do something, and then immediately forget it.

I’m always amazed on here at peoples ability to talk about film and tv shows they have seen with details I’d not remembered even during the viewing never mind years later.

On the other hand, I watched about 3 dozen tv shows over the pandemic, enjoyed a fair few of them, and when people ask me what I watched recently I generally draw a total ... blank. Yet I remember this perfectly.

I have a mate who still remembers how to code games on a special and amiga.
I honestly can't even remember how to load a game or which games were on which.
I remember on my 386 the was cd.. to go down a level and configure.sys and auto exec.bat but couldn't remember anything about them other than they exist. My mate can still quote his configuration.sys contents. It is fucking scary.

His recall from films, TV, music etc is almost photographic but remembering day to day tasks are more than challenging!

I've started saying "lovely, thanks" instead of just thanks/cheers/nice one.
I just can't stop myself.

My memory's never been great, but the short term has got worse as I've got older. I write things down or do them straight away nowadays.

I sometimes wonder if it's because I put everything into my phone (phone numbers, todos, etc...) so I don't need to remember things.. but if my phone *doesn't* remind me then I'm screwed.
Glad to hear I'm not alone though.

My memory's been shot for about 15 years I think a decade of weed ruined it tbh, my dirty little secret at work is I'll record any online meeting, been a game changer.

Pulled a muscle in my chest sneezing yesterday. Sneezing.
Now I have to be careful how I sit because if I'm hunched over for too long everything seizes up.
Third time I've done this in as many months, pissing hayfever. Fortunately it's only tender for a few days at a time
Never had to deal with this shit when I was 19.
I'm only 41, surely this can't be normal. At this rate by the time I'm 60 blinking too strongly will throw a hip out.

I've got proper middle-age brainfog about names now. I can remember faces fine, but I forget people's names within a minute of being introduced.
There are people I've worked with for six years now whose names I don't know. I think I knew them once, but I don't anymore.

I used to edit my mate's autoexec.bat and put the following in.
echo "Press any key if you're a massive fanny" pause
Repeated multiple times...

Weird thing to keep in memory, but there we go. Then again, I probably made a good hundred of them so that'll be why.

Too few get the reference, “I’m drawing a complete blank”
Too few.

I've been considering signing up for the $1 gamepass thing mainly to play Firewatch. I just noticed that I bought Firewatch from GOG 3 months ago, and I have no memory of doing so.

That's not an age thing, that's a backlog thing.

No, the backlog thing is forgetting all the stuff I've got on my backlog.
The age thing is having literally no memory of buying a game only a few months ago. When it's one of the only 2 games I bought this year! (Excluding itch megabundles)

I do that all the bloody time, although in fairness it's usually through stuff like humble bundle.
"Oh, I like the look of that. Think I'll buy it!"

On the flip side it's normally no biggy if you read a spoiler.

On the flip side it's normally no biggy if you read a spoiler. This, a thousand times this!!!
I remember JuniorFE warning me not to view various Elden Ring trailers before release and I was like, "Why not?!? I won't remember anything from them later!!!"

Not just an age thing, but I’ve long told people that their secret is safe with me. On the one hand, I’ll probably stop listening closely after a few sentences. Secondly, I can’t remember what I had for breakfast. No fucking way I’m going to remember the deep dark secret that happened to you when you were 14, let alone tell someone else about it
