May be an unpopular opinion but I wish they'd cut all the excess loot and min-maxing out and go for a more stripped down experience. To be honest I think I just want a straight up sequel to Ninja Gaiden (that's good). Oh hell yes. All the loot stuff is just a burden. It adds nothing for me at all. I don't mind loot but a minimal amount where most items are actually good and hidden. Except maybe diablo 3 though as for some reason that system I really enjoyed.

You are kind of penalised. You can can brute force the game, for sure, but if you dont engage with the build system you are completely gimping yourself and making everything much more difficult.

Wouldn't be the same for me without radnomised loot. What's more, the entire late game with fusing, crafting, etc. depends on loot, if you'd take all that away, you'd have a different game. And like wunty says, you can easily ignore almost all loot pretty much entirey until you're in NG+. Not much to gain for people who want a streamlined expereince, but a lot to lose for everyone else. Or just play Sekiro.

I played nioh 2 all the way through with a friend and he is obsessed with the loot stuff. Grinding to get matching sets and showing me his character etc. I just quickly checked if there was the upwards green arrow and if so I equipped it. He always had to explain the various guardian spirits and what I should be equipping. I just wanted to go wreck shit like in sekiro. Luckily I'm totally awesome and could still beat the game via my ninja skills from many hours of playing games like sekiro and ninja gaiden. That or his highly tuned character carried me through the game.

This does seem to have toned down the loot showers and drops did seem to happen less oftenin this. It doesnt look like you are going to get 20 variations of a sword in this one.

Oh you definitely need to engage with it on some level. I should have clarified that you just don't need to go balls deep into it to get through the game initially.

Yeah, the build refinement is the endgame content, basically. I kind of pushed through the first one not really knowing what I was doing and it took most of NG+ to really 'get' the gear system which, in turn, made the second one a lot easier.

I got on OK with it. I like that it isnt a finite resource because im a 'just in case' hoarder, and it probably means there will be no sloth talismans to compensate but the low level spells you got access to seemed decent in combos as they do a lot of ki damage.

Maybe I chose the wrong ones, the fire blast was reasonably decent as an interrupt but I wasn't blown away with my other choices.

Switching from this hyper responsive perfectly tuned combat to the sausage armed Jedi Survivor combat is going to be tough.

That has been pushed back to May or so, though, no? Two months to finish Wo Long.
Mind, I am playing Like a Dragon: Ishin currently, and that will definitely be a problem.

Nioh 1 actually had an amazing moment at the end where you've been dealing with yellow, blue and purple coded gear the entire time and then when the boss is beaten you get an explosion of green coloured gear, a colour you've never even seen. One of every weapon type plus armor.
But I do like the stripped back approach to loot in Wo Long so far. The amount of menu cycling and trashing weapons took up too much time

Silly question incoming: I'm fighting the boss and he's kicking my arse (no surprise there). I'm blocking and parrying, striking whenever the opportunity arises and filling up his red bar (posture?) until a red dot appears (I stagger him?) - what's the appropriate attack at that point?

It’s the ‘grapple’ button. When’s the red dot appears, press it. It will also appear for a back stab if you sneak up on someone.

Great, we could arrange some co-op then, if time permits

Think I’ll need any help I can get. I still can’t get past this first fucking boss.

All the other bosses are a joke compared to him. Until I found out you can practically kill the 2nd phase in 3 hits I was close to giving up on him.

Think I’ll need any help I can get. I still can’t get past this first fucking boss. Neither can I, even though twice I got him to the second phase - deflecting his moves and keeping up to his face seems to do the trick, but my timing still sucks!

Think I’ll need any help I can get. I still can’t get past this first fucking boss. Phase 1 or 2? You can almost stunlock him in phase 1 with relentless light attacks, followed by a stronger attack once you have enough spirit. Make sure you don’t make the same stupid mistake I did, my equipment was too heavy which made deflecting pretty much impossible. Also, mind that you can hold l1 to block, even if you attack or deflect, it does slow your spirit regen, but makes everything much safer.

Phase 2.
I can get through the first bit unscathed. The timing for everything in Phase 2 just completely throws me for some reason. It doesn’t help that you can pretty much only stagger him or damage him by deflecting Red attacks, but he barely seems to use them. Instead he’s relentless with everything else. The charge move he has doesn’t seem to have any tell before he’s smacked into me and stunned me. Barely have time to heal most of the time.

I will add that I am terrible at these games though. Really enjoy the general combat, rooting around levels and loot etc. But boss fights are not in any way my forte.
Oh to have some difficulty options…

You will be able to summon other players, stand back and watch them kick the shit out of any boss you struggle with.
I will say though the 2 bosses after were really easy and if you can get past that one you will feel much better. That boss is hideously placed.

Experience - All experience, every bit of it. Running the demo over and over, hungering for more turned out not to be a waste of time after all! Character Progress - Any levels you gained in the demo will transfer without a hitch.
All Items - Includes all gear equipment and consumables. Companion Reputation - In the demo, it is possible to reach max favor with Zhao Yun and get his gear. This also carries over. Story Progress - When the game releases, you'll be left off where you were based on your progress in the demo.
