Do you use colander too?
That's what I get for not refreshing.

This toaster talk makes me think - why don't toasters fit a regular sized slice of bread in them? There's always a bit of the bread poking out at the top. Is there some mythical square bread out there that I don't know about? All the bread in Japan is square. Unless you buy 'English Bread' which has a round top. Unfortunately, all the bread in Japan is bland white shit. Hence I don't even own a toaster, despite having bread that is the perfect shape for one. Actually, now I think about it, no-one in Japan owns a pop-up toaster anyway, they all own little toaster-grill-oven things, so I don't know why all the bread is square. I don't have one of those either. I do have a fuzzy-logic rice cooker though

Plenty of square breads available here. I'd say it's the default bread shape tbh

@bill - don't they usually cut the crusts off sandwiches over there? At least that's what a random YouTube cooking show mentioned last night.
Never understood getting rid of crusts... They're the best bit!

Not sure tbh. Shop/Convenience store sandwiches usually have the no crusts. You can buy white bread that already has the crusts cut off for little bento box sandwiches. But people don't make or eat that many sandwiches here, so I only know what I do, and I eat the crusts because they're the best bits. Loaves over here don't have end crusts though. They come in 3 sizes. 8 slices. 6 slices or 4 slices.

The slices aren't even the right way round. Someone needs to give Japan a good talking to.

8 slices! Would need half a dozen loaves a week!

Sounds like my gluten free loaves (on the odd occasion I reluctantly buy them) – £3,000,000 for four slices.
Humph.

I think we British have a rather unique relationship with the Sandwich.

Is it a thing in Japan that they don’t mind their food looking artificial af?

Let's be real here for moment. Toast is pretty shit. Unless it has bacon on it.

I quite like Japanese bread, it’s nice and soft and is lovely when toasted with some melting butter on the top.
My Panasonic bread maker produces some nice results too.

Is that the famous milk bread which is now what all the cool kids sell at pop-ups?

This is just a form of brioche that uses milk and less eggs. There are probably thousands of French grannies that make their brioche exactly like this.

They have a thing called kare pan (curry bread) which is basically a deep fried roll filled with curry. It's the most Scottish thing ever, I don't know why they aren't big here.
/checks thread

Curry Pan are nice, though too many make me feel sick. It's also confusing when you first encounter it as it kinda looks like a jam donut.
Japanese bread is nice if you like your bread without bread or texture or flavor. 90% air.

They call them "curry bunnys". Probably about 3000 cals per bite.

Tangentially related: over the last few months Abode Stock has become rammed with AI generated artwork, to the point where the search engine is now effectively useless.
There’s nothing left but endless reams of hot garbage and weirdly aberrant bullshit. And I betcha in a year or so, when the public is more familiar with AI-generated art, these will be widely agreed to look AWFUL (they look awful now, but that’s beside the point).

Same with practically every user submitted creative thing. Clarkesworld (good sci-fi short story zine) has closed its submissions because it’s absolutely overwhelmed with ChatGPT garbage.

Ford applied for a patent for a system that will see cars at first begin to increasingly annoy you by restricting functionality, playing incessant distracting noise, then eventually self-drive away to a reposession depot if you miss your payments on said car.

I feel like we could save a lot of time and money by cutting out the middlemen and just sending Fords straight to the junkyard.
