I think a lot of people want their electronic realdoll looking perfect (so they can bang their party members), but I personally don't see the point when I'm going to be wearing a helmet anyway. |

We can use this nice dragon age Disney thread as a safe haven from the US politics doom.
I like the companions so far except neve just because I can get on with the voice actor. Her delivery is just pretty dull overall. The rest are fine but where is my hk 47?

I spent like an hour trying to make my own custom Sheppard in Mass Effect 1, but every time I changed a slider I seemed to just make her look more scary and awful. Eventually I gave up and used a preset, with a slightly changed hair style.
Then I hated it and gave up after about 45 minutes. So that was a waste of my life.

I've arrived at the lighthouse. I appear to be extremely slow at games these days.
Still trying to get to grips with the controls and the most successful way to fight at the moment.
I'm liking the bow though just as much as the melee approach

I either just use the marketing preset (because by the time I've seen all the pre-release stuff they've become cemented in my head as the main character) or, if a marketing example isn't present, just create a simple stereotype-based look for the role I'll be playing but changing hair and facial hair. Maybe eye colour and a tattoo. I'd never get into full facial construction.
In this case my mage is a white male with a beard and tied back (mid-length, not long) hair. Job done, play the game.

I just do a gremmi. Cycle through the presets and change the hairstyle and colour. Job done.
Dragon's Dogma was the only exception really, because cats.

I try and create Molly Millions from Neuromancer in every single game that lets me do that.
Curly hair in this looks so good that I deviated slightly.

What’s everyone’s impressions now? I just checked my save file. 15 hours in. It’s basically an action game with a skill tree and the ability to pause to sync some moves. I guess though looking at jade empire and all the mass effect games this is a natural continuation of everything BioWare has done. Although I prefer the likes of bg3 I am enjoying it and would buy the next mass effect game. The whole structure of the game is very old Skool but I’m kinda loving it. We will never get it but I’d day one a jade empire 2. I LOVED it.
Also in this as a mage I’ve focused almost exclusively on the lightening path and I’m a pretty awesome now. Decimating most enemies. Two reviews I watched including that skill up review moaned about enemy health bars. With me as lightening god and synergies with my companions most enemies die extremely quickly and don’t feel like sponges at all. I mean during the tutorials it explains how you removes the barriers and shields and buffs etc. I guess if you ignored all of that it could take a while.

Her voice did start to irritate me a bit and I really can't get over that hat and I've no idea why, so I've shelved her unless I have to talk to her. I'm so done with her I only noticed after 10 hours she's missing a leg.

I didn't notice that for ages either.
On a side note, make sure you upgrade the workshop as soon as. At level 3 (I think) you unlock enchanting. Alas, he doesn't put in an appearance. Anyway, it's free and you can swap and change as much as you like.

Neve is a bit on the monotone side, as far as inflection goes. Not nearly as distracting as Harding alternating between her original, higher-pitched Inquisition voice and just being straight up Liara T'Soni almost every other sentence.

Nearly 50 hours on this character, level 35.
Just done the Weisshaupt mission, was suitably epic. Still not sure why the Grey Wardens all seem to have abandoned their uniforms in favour of just whatever plate or leather they had lying around.
The bugged Emmrich quest at the Necropolis is annoying me, I seem to have a slightly different variation on said bug than every other instance I've seen of it reported.
Made the mistake of going through that Three-Essence door in the Crossroads too early, got absolutely mulched by what was on the other side.

Neve used to annoy me, but she started to grow on me. She is slightly monotonous, but it's just her style, I dont think the voice actress is bad at all. I also swapped out her costume so she doesnt have that annoying hat strapped to the side of her head now.
My fav companions are Bellara and Davrin so far. I do like Neve in battle too because of her abilities. I like Harding as a character but I find her abilities a bit lacklustre so far.

Whilst I haven't played (for more than a couple of hours) any other Dragon Age (or KOTOR), I have played the Mass Effect's and Jade Empire and this feels very close in style and tone to those. Whilst I agree it is lighter in tone, and I'm assuming the moral dilemmas have been stripped back, it's not like they've deviated hugely from their formula.
As others have said, its God of War with conversation trees and Disney characters. So far it's a very pleasant game to play, perfect for the Christmas break imo. But there is absolutely no friction here and it's spectacularly unoriginal, and to that end it feels very much like a F2P game. Obviously I can't speak to how it compares to other DA games, but it's not attempting to be Boulders Gate. I can however, understand the backlash in regards to taking a beloved franchise and putting it through the gaming equivalent of a rock tumbler.
What I do appreciate is how perfectly formed it is performance wise. It's nice to have a AAA game that actually feels like one at launch.

Is it like Mass Effect in that you can pick it and be best buds or will I end up in some weird love heptagon? I don't want to end up in a situation like when Jack just kept telling me to "Fuck off" just because I wasn't an ass to her and the game thought that meant we should be banging.

My understanding is that you can
flirt with everyone in your party as much as you like, but once you reach the point of committing to a relationship with a particular character (which is signposted), romance options will be permanently locked off for every other NPC.

Want some fresh meat soon though as I only have 4 members and I’ve had them for ages and no obvious signs of the next on my journey yet. Currently flirting it up with bellara after being loose with Lucanis.
