Yep, read that earlier and the combat just sounds awful. Might check it out when it inevitably drops on GP a few months after performing horribly.

Read that and VGC preview who seemed a lot more positive of the experience though did say the combat was disappointing compared to the Arkham games.
It's definitely not a day one is it?

I watched this earlier and even on a marketing channel like Access it still looks really bland. I will watch a youtube video that shows me all the outfits at some point but otherwise it’ll be one for PS+/Gamepass I think.

Unless it gets some genuinely good reviews I’m thinking it’s probably day never. Why spend 20 hours with something average just because it’s almost-Batman? There are plenty of genuinely great games available (and my backlog is full of them).

The combat looks fucking dreadful. Like Assassin's Creed bad.

It's bizarre how I think Arkham Knight still looks better than this game in every way.

Was looking forward to this, but it looks iffy. Oh well, still other games I'm interested in, if this does indeed become a stinker.

I like the different characters having their own cutscenes with people depending on their pasts as the PlayStation Access video shows but that seems to be it really. I think it'll perform poorly and be cheap as chips before Christmas.

God that combat looks awkward especially as the character isn't even facing the enemy half the time.

God that combat looks awkward especially as the character isn't even facing the enemy half the time. I think what they said rings true, if you go into it thinking it plays like the Arkham games, and trying to play it like those it fails. Definitely doesn't look anywhere near as fluid. I'm still slightly optimistic it will turn out ok. I guess I'm just hankering over playing a 'big game' at the moment. I know GoW is out in November.

It looks more like a shitty RPG combat where you press a button and it fights for you.

I would save your money mate, I feel you'll play it for a bit then sell it on.

I don’t think it looks terrible personally. Don’t mind it taking a different direction, as the Arkham games were getting a bit stale by the end.
Looks a bit like that Avengers game, but Batman, which I quite enjoyed up to a point. It’s going to live or die on mission design and content though, both of which were the strong point in Arkham and what completely killed Avengers.

Definitely need a demo. The combat just feels really lacking any real force(especially watching Red Hood fire countless rounds just to knock someone down).

I know that things need to move on and the actual execution might change but is it not made that we’re talking about it being less fluid than the Arkham games when Asylum is two generations old?

Has there ever been a coop game with a decent combat system? I imagine it's a nightmare trying to get enemies to react properly to more than one player character throwing punches and locks around the place. So you just end up with shit like this. Pre canned 4 second animation sequences when you press punch.

I suppose, like soulslike games which are also fine, its the speed thats the issue. Slow(ish) deliberate combat vs a dude with machine pistols firing at someone while they get punched a thousand times by a roided up martial arts guy.
The enemy should be dead by the time dick backflips to his position, which is probably why it looks so stupid, otherwise the melee characters would be absolutely fucking useless.

I think the problem is that, admittedly it became less important as the Arkham games went on, but The Batman (and his backup dancers) isnt just about running around bulldozing through crowds of mooks. You snuck around, doing silent takedowns, setting traps, ziplining around the environments and so on.
Watching the characters just gracelessly charging around, room to room, its basically streets of rage in rubber gimp suits. It just not very elegant, which I think is the secret sauce from the Arkham games.

I bet it has goon encounters where they come in waves like the artless base-assaults in Spiderman too
