Thought I would give The Evil Within 2 a second playthrough on my shiny new series x.
I loved this game 1st time round and it’s the first game where I can finally try out the VRR on my 2 year old tv (when will Sony finally sort out their support, jeez)
Game still looks and plays great. Silky smooth with VRR on (I did turn it off to compare and it’s slightly juddery in some scenes due to the framerate dipping below 60).
Happy to be able to play this again with high resolution and smooth framerate. It’s a great game and one of my favourite horrors.

Forza 7. I thought I was good at it but for some reason the default assist settings not just have it auto brake but also auto steer. Who the fuck would want auto steering?

Yeah, noticed that when I played the demo years ago. Might as well have auto accelerate and brake while you're at it and just sit back and let the game play itself.
I can understand it being an option, but not one that's on by default.

Hey all
Currently on pillars of eternity 1.
Playing as moon godlike wizard as it is generally my go to class in fantasy rpgs. Finished white march 1 which was very good and because of that i am so over levelled for last few quests of act 2.
Great game but it is so extremely lore heavy it is challenging to keep attention to all those gods, history, who is who...
Tried to read in game books but they got boring quickly. Too many made up words, places, etc.
Game really should have a trivia notes for those stuff with easy in dialog search.
Nevertheless enjoying it and do have idea of main plot but definitely losing some nuance of the plot.

Well having dusted off the PS3 which I bought on a whim about 6 years ago but subsequently hardly played because I hated the controller I'm currently now blasting through The Last Of Us 1, the graphics are a bit tired obviously but the gameplay, pacing and variable levels/environments/enemies are all great, 25 mins of peaceful/stealthy exploration followed by bonkers levels of stress/panic at times, I'll generally try and stealth attack my way around a bunch of enemies and then a body's discovered or some clicker spots me or something and then it all kicks off in a big panic. I generally don't like games where the supplies/ammo etc is in short(ish) supply but I'm really getting it here and blow me down if I'm not actually feeling immersed in the story for once. The Clickers seemed a bit annoying at first but the Bloaters can just do one, so far I die about 9/10 times in every Bloater encounter forcing numerous changes in strategy. The only thing that grates a little is some of Ellie's seemingly random wandering around seemingly in full sight of enemies when I'm right next to here in full stealth mode and her her silly quips when I bash some guys head in but I can forgive all that for all the original silly kid stuff she does/says. Oh and one time getting locked on a bit of scenery was a bit annoying. I might get the Left Behind DLC next or otherwise it will be TLOU2 when I can get hold of a PS4 but I might need a bit of a break from the stress before then.

Bioshock Infinite (Nintendo Switch): Graphics coming from Bioshock 2 are much improved and I'm so glad that they have used other colours aside from brown and grey. Story so far seems much improved and the gameplay seems better as well.
Less good is that they seem to have removed manual save which is annoying. At just after 10 last night I had to just bin it unsaved, so I've no idea where it will kick me back to.
Overall a breath of fresh air over the previous two (so far). I'm seeing some pop up of artifacts and close up some textures are not great, (e.g. fruit displays), but I think the graphics as a whole are really good. Flames, faces and water effects were all impressive, especially considering this is such an old game.
I'm easily pleased I figure, but the games on the PS5 in 4k must look incredible if they were doing this almost 10 years ago.

I loved the setting and the story of infinite but I preferred the micro management of the first game. Infinite seems much more streamlined.

I did replay the first BioShock on Hard quite recently. Didn't really feel like the game was built for that difficulty, but some things worked better, or at least mattered more. Overall it was a bit frustrating though. Especially the frequent respawning combined with health bloat could make combat feel clunky and unsatisfying quite often.

Too many made up words, places, etc. Yeah, it's a bit much. But I mean you can always skip the books and only focus on quest line of dialogs. And those who do enjoy lore heavy games can read every little fragment of it.

Forza Horizon 4. It was available 50% off and I am weak. Mainly I wanted to race around Edinburgh (which is my home town).

As far as I remember one of my biggest gripes with the lore were the info dumps that were often left with characters with which they didn't seem to belong. Or simply with characters that seemed somewhat unfriendly towards our party, but which were at the same time still quite willing to explain factions, history, background and so on.
I don't remember books for some reason. Lots of hyperlinks though. Perhaps I just decided to ignore the books/scrolls/etc.?!?

docrob - It's a cracking game and Edinburgh is lovely in it. Just don't get overwhelmed by the icon strewn map. Meant to go there years ago for a long weekend and even booked first class train tickets thanks to points I'd accumulated with work. Ended up having to stay to look after our cat while my missus had a great time up there with her mum.

DayZ.
Think I've had it on once in the past few months, after a slight addiction through 2019-2020. New patch dropped yesterday, fired up tonight, and within 20mins I've killed two guys at a heli crash, just minutes behind me.
Adrenaline shakes in full effect. Might run like shit on a PS4, but there's nothing quite like the rush.

Still fucking around base and vehicle building in Subnautica BZ. I venture out exploring every now and again doing the missions.
I'd love a freeplay mode where you can just build massive bases.

FORECLOSED.
A sort of stealth/action game set in a cyberpunk world with quite a cool, comic-book panel, visual style.
Unfortunately there is something wrong with the aiming when using a weapon, it moves a little too fast and doesn't 'stick' on an enemy as it probably should when not using a mouse. So i've been dying in extremely frustrating circumstances... and the checkpointing isn't very good.
But i shall persevere. I'm only about an hour into it.

Back from holidays and kind of scuffling around to find something to play. I do what are essentially 'dailies' on Microsoft Flight Sim (PC); there are several sites that allow you to build in some progression to the sim, by doing missions, saving up for different planes, etc., which have prolonged the game's life for me. I've also been checking out the latest updates on State of Decay 2 (PC). Such a great game, though the beginning is a little overwhelming now as you are immediately hit with a bunch of NPC requests (missions) which you're not well equipped for. If you're starting with the game, remember to ignore the vast majority of these and don't try and do too much at the start. I've moved into Pterodactyl Park as my second base, a converted trailer park. Currently my goal is to build a sniper tower to take the pain out of dealing with the supermutants. Also had a quick go on Legend Bowl yesterday, a retro-looking American Football game. Seems good so far.

State of Decay 2 is brilliant and gets fired up regularly at Hermit Towers. In fact, my desert island list might need amending. I was umming and ahhing about, but now I've seen a screen shot it has to go on.

Psychonauts 2 (PC and Xbox) F1 2020 (Xbox series x) NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered PC (annoying that game progress doesn't cross between PC and Xbox)

Still playing Two Worlds 2. 46 hours in now and I did probably spend something like 30 of them on the large island (Erimos) that I visited right after the small starting island. At first it was mostly Savannah and quite a lot of side-questing out there or in adjacent dungeons and such, but also quite a lot in the twin cities of Cheznaddar and Hathmandor in the northwestern corner. I do rather like those two since they fulfill somewhat different functions and are differentiated in a number of ways. Cheznaddar is poorer in architecture, people are clearly less affluent overall and there aren't as many traders. They are both about the same size, but it's still clear that Hathmandor is higher up in the hierarchy. The guilds are either in Hathmandor or outside the cities (though nearby). The quests in the cities were almost always more narratively oriented.
I have only somewhat recently arrived on Eollas - the second substantial island -, which is quite a bit smaller, and I think it's better quality overall. The focus seems more strongly on the main narrative, which is finally getting more interesting and the proportion of proper quests as opposed to fetch-/kill-quests seems higher as well. New Ashos - the main town with the magical university - is deceptively small, but is pretty dense on meaningful content. It took me something like two sessions of play before I finally got out of the city for good. Another reason why I do like this island more than the previous one is, that I have finally encountered a faction that isn't just stock-standard and has some interesting characteristics to it. The Scavengers live in their camp at the edge of the Swallows, which is the corrupted environment that covers most of the island. They are basically the outcast survivors of the catastrophe that led to that area getting corrupted and they have developed their own culture as a result. That they talk differently helps sell that idea.
I'm currently rather enjoying the change of scenery and I have just entered the ruins of the old university. Should be interesting to see how much longer before I can leave for the end-game.

I'm a couple of hours into Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut on PS4. Decent so far, but is it meant to have my console in a sustained jet engine state? Not even RDR2 or Last of Us Part 2 had this effect. I'm actually scared to play the game in case it kills my console!

I had some trouble getting into it at first, but I did rather enjoy Defiance Bay and towards the end the story also started to work better for me.

I preferred it to Divinity 2 which was my next crpg. PoE always felt like I was making progress whereas DOS2 even main questline stuff felt quite sidequesty, like I was never really getting anywhere.

I'm playing a mix of Diablo 2 and RDR2.
And I've finally gotten out of the character creation in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. It's good so far, but I'm not seeing the "true successor to BG2" vibe that people seem to be talking about. The voice acting so far is god-awful, and the writing not much better.
Still, I liked Kingmaker enough that I'm more than willing to give it a chance.

Hah, for a moment I thought you meant actual Divinity 2, as in Ego Draconis. But yeah, I have heard that both DOS1 and 2 do drag quite a bit and aren't supported by overly good writing (to put it lightly). Really need to finally get to DOS soon.
