Landed on an atmosphere void moon and was poking around a civilian outpost, and some guy without a space suit on came out the airlock and face locked me blithering on about a quest and would I help them etc
Slightly immersion breaking or classic Bethesda.
Good to be back.

The guards interrupting you will you're in convo with someone else and both convos end up happening simultaneously, or the guards magically teleporting to your location when spotted by a civilian looting something is also classic Bethesda.

Akila City at night in the rain with the background music turned off is quite lovely to walk through.

I accidentally killed a UC vanguard captain on Kreet as thought he was the pirate I was after (oopsie) Also looks like the bug to get the locked spacesuit in the lodge is fixed now (at least on Xbox series S) I got that last night, you just have to arse about to find the right spot. Have a look on google for a guide on where to try. It's twice as good as the best one I have ripped off somewhere else thus far, so worth the effort in the early game! That suit carried me through the entire game. I got a gold suit in the late game that had good perks but the actual stats were still worse.

Top tip for scanning flora and fauna, might have been obvious to some but I only just figured it out:
Blue outline - not scanned yet Blue filled-in - you’ve scanned this one, but you need to scan more of the same type Green filled in - no need to scan/all scans completed
It was the second bit I missed- I’d have a firefight with lots of creatures and then lose track of which ones I’d scanned vs. not scanned. But actually you can tell.

I got a gold suit in the late game that had good perks but the actual stats were still worse. I got it legitimately by picking the lock. It is miles better than everything else I had at that point. Has also prompted me to put points into spacesuit modding seeing as I'll be using it for a while.

Good to be back. Haha. He was fully-dressed for me. Found myself on a planet surrounded by level 30 Siren creatures and various merc outposts. As a level 7 scoundrel, I made a hasty retreat.

Worth finding a picture online to stand at exactly the right angle and trying again. Although, it’s slightly poised everything now- nothing I find is better, it’s all just instant junk.

So Susan, was floating about, as one does, and got a distress call about a base being overrun by Spacers. Kicked off the “Groundpounder” mission, went down and knocked a few space heads together and got to the next part where I need to kill Spacer shit in orbit of Altair I and V… I am absolutely getting smashed and can’t get past this bit I’m about level 12, but still in the started ship. I can take one of the three down and then I’ve got no shields and am blown up. There’s no dodge, etc, so it’s just a case of being stronger and outlasting the opposition, no?

Yesterday I was saying how I must have missed the pirate captain in the first base on the first moon and spent ages wandering round. Well, having figured out how scanning works and how to follow a waypoint (sigh), I went looking again, and fast travelled to the spot on the map... whereupon I'm absolutely sure the entire map topography changed. It was a different base, my ship situated differently, the landscape was different... but yeah, straight through this new base, met the captain, yadda yadda yadda. But it's like it had spawned the wrong location when I first landed or something. I dunno. But it was weird.

Duffman and the couple of others who said this was bad visually/like last gen. You need to get to Specsavers. It's pretty sexy and if it was 60fps and this sexy it would be pretty amazing. Played three hours so far, like the combat enough and most other things but I'm not sure I can play this type of game anymore. Every time I go into my inventory or look at the ship crafting or get into some long conversation or look at the minerals I need for some item all I can think is I don't have time for this.

At level 12, you should be more than capable of getting a significant upgrade and it's likely you already have everything you need to kick off the mission. As above though, everything else you get from then on will be shit.

But actually you can tell. Another couple of related tips, which took me a full 30hrs to realise, when you are mining rocks if you press LT it focuses the mining beam and mines it way faster. Secondly when you kill a creature or mine a rock it counts as scanning them. I was previously trying to scan the aggressive beasts whilst they charged me before switching to my gun to put them down. Very hazardous and totally unnecessary.

Yeah, that’s something I tend to run up against in RPGs in recent years. On one night, I can spend 3 hours doing quests and the next night I might spend an hour just exploring a single location and be like “damn, this game is gonna be HUGE.” I both admire that and am intimidated by it. This is definitely something that’ll take me years to complete, like Skyrim did. and yeah, the graphics in this are excellent for the most part. The leaves on the trees in New Atlantis look kind of rough though.

True. Have you upgraded your ship at all? On your next load, maybe stuff most power into your shields and warp out of there.

Thanks folks… but in the stock starter ship I won’t be shooting any harder after a few more levels, will I? Is the equipment’s strength somehow dynamically scaled as you level up, or do I just need to be at a higher level so I can buy better kit and win that way?

Wait until you visit Avila- it can be astonishingly flat and plain for a 2023 title at times, though it also occasionally has it’s moments elsewhere. The sound design is the one solid winner for me with this game.

I’ve just run into the same issue as mothercruncher. Stole a ship and am facing three enemies at once 😂
does it irritate anybody else that it’s 0 to heal and O to repair the ship (PC, at least)

You can upgrade the starting ship a decent amount using only A class components (the basic tier). Couple that with enough "ship parts" to do running repairs mid battle several times and you should be fine in all the starting systems. There is genuinely a bit of skill to it too. Without spoilers, there's an opportunity for unlimited practice and experimentation with flying near the very start of the UC faction questline.

The leaves on the trees in New Atlantis look kind of rough though. I think it looks great and I’ve pretty much habituated to the 30fps. It’s a typical Bethesda game, just without the same open world feeling you get from Fallout/Elder scrolls; ie ejected in to a huge seamless map. This feels a bit different and something is lost, but it’s a space exploration rpg, so not sure how they can reconcile that with the usual open world MO when trying to do the space traveller exploring hundreds of planets theme. It’s great thou. The barren planets are a bit dull, but apparently it is a slow burner. I do find it relaxing to play and just dip in and out without feeling to need to binge on it. Thing I find with game pass/ps extra is similar to Netflix. Such a wealth of choice I find it difficult to decide what to devote time to and end up overwhelmed and choosing nothing. Or I feel a restless need to get through a game to move on to the next thing as if a clock is ticking. If I don’t I’m not getting my monies worth from the sub model. Or I’m just getting older. Or I have been conditioned by social media to have a short attention span. Or I’m just burnt out on gaming and get bored easily.

All of those things, yes.
I completed Shadow Warrior 3 the other week, only because its stages were short so it was easy to get the daily GamePass achievement for them.

I finally got enough Science points to get the second tier perk for researching more weapon mods. Then went to research them - with my cargo hold FULL of resources (it has a capacity of 900) - and I didn’t have all the bits and bobs I needed - adhesive, lubricant, tungsten, that sort of thing.
Tried building the mods I could, and it was the same story- I’ve been picking up everything from alien corpses and mining deposits, but didn’t have the right stuff. Not sure I can be bothered to pin one thing I want at a time. I need a shopping list and a planet that has everything. Or a very well stocked merchant.

muddyfunster – which TV do you have? Which moonlight repo are you using? Android? I'm using a Shield TV Pro which runs on Android TV 11. I stream h265 @150mbps (the max). Can check other settings later if helpful. Have also used the windows build on a laptop, the Linux builds on both a laptop and raspberry pi 4. Even tried the android phone app. In all cases it's been good, although I find having a wired connection greatly improves consistency. Ah right, I wondered if somehow you'd got it running via your TV itself, if such a hax0r system is out there.

Yes I can also run Moonlight on the TV itself and have briefly tried that in the past. It's just the shield is particularly good at hardware decoding h265. It's the same android app on the play store, not especially complicated.
Sunshine does need a bit more thought but still not hard imo.

I also had trouble with this. I went back after getting a better ship as trying to take on 3 enemy ships was proving too hard. I reckon you could upgrade the starter ship to be more competitive but I didn't want to spend the credits on the loaner.
