You get an overload of co2 which may or may not damage your health. Doesn't seem to slow you down though, just blocks fast travel. Carrying/storing/selling loot is a massive pain. On the one hand it's great that they've adressed the issue of being able to fit a 100 battleaxes in a jewellery box, but actually having to create space appropriate storage when you're a massive hoarder and a couple of spacesuits bankrupt a merchant so you can't sell the stuff is a huge ballache. Ok, so you can buy all their resources, but that ends up weighing more than the crap you sold them so you need to make even more storage. Yeah being a successful hoarder does need thought, or at least explanation. Your options are: Getting a follower to carry stuff Upgrading the relevant skill (I've found third tier adequate). Using gear with perks that add carry weight Buying property to store stuff Upgrading the cargo capacity of your ship Build a very basic base with warehouse space somewhere (I built one on Jemison which I stored everything I was hoarding in until I could build and fly a big enough ship to just carry everything everywhere).

The lack of map of new altantis is massive oversight, trying to find stores is a pain. Your companion is still stupid and blocks your aim, in the end I told Sarah to stand still while I took the pirate out the 1st main mission

Just line up all the rings before you lock them in.

Can I choose to ditch companions then? Sarah is a bit of a bore and won’t even let me murder innocents without guilt tripping me. I’ve told her to stay still a few times but she keeps popping back up. Is it the “part ways” option, and is that temporary, or final?

Spent some time exploring the surface of Mars to complete the planet surveying and tbh it’s a pretty dull activity.
It does seem definitely worth visiting the main map markers for the planet from space though and you may get a few branching quests.
I def will not be surveying every planet in full though even if the minor map markers are a little enticing… just seems too boring…

Anyone stumbled upon "Juno's Gambit" yet? Be interesting to see how that played out for other people.

All the complaints I think are perfectly valid. The fast travel doesn’t bug me but they could have made it way more immersive. You have a bunch of unskippable cutscenes for travel, docking, etc, why not load there? Etc etc.
But that said this is scratching a very specific itch that only the Bethsoft RPGs seem to.

I don't really feel the urge to go off and explore outside the quests in this like I would with Skyrim or TOTK, for example, not a good sign I know how this sounds but give it 20hrs. I suppose I don't get the urge to land on random planets but once you're more settled into the rhythms it's so easy to get sidetracked when a mission takes you a City/outpost/space station or there's a point of interest whilst walking on the surface somewhere. Also I have a to do list a mile long and I still can't resist speaking to everyone in case they have another quest for me. There are so many things I want to do and haven't got round to yet, and I still get the sense I've barely made a dent. The difference is that where before you'd pick a destination on the map and set out there, getting distracted by map icons slightly off route as you walked. Now it's more like, you have a quest that takes you to system x. You go directly to system x but maybe you get a hailed upon arrival or maybe you land and what you find isn't what you expected, or on route to where you need to go on world, you overhear conversations or witness a unique event, or perhaps you pop into a shop to sell something and then get another quest from that. It's all still pretty organic but it doesn't reveal itself until things have settled down a bit and you naturally find the rhythm. As others have mentioned the start is a bit of a crazy whirlwind and then after that it's almost a bit overwhelming as there's suddenly no more handholding but it's still unclear how many things work. Things are starting to click and I'm getting in to a groove, choosing the Neon Street Rat trait and having an urge to visit there has helped enormously. I'm having fun poking around there and following leads, and the Zero-grav casino I visited on the way was pretty cool. I will say caves are very frustrating to traverse, the flashlight pointing at the ground in third-person and the field-of-view being very narrow in first person makes navigating cramped dark spaces difficult.

Finished. The back half is genuinely so much better than the first, and the NG+ is pretty clever in the exact opposite way of the very start of the game being so dumb. Such a weirdly paced game.

I've had a chance to play a bit more to ight after work. Was only going to have a cheeky half an hour. 2 hours later I'm knee deep in a mission to find Maouro(sp?).
Turns out with the right source material (space) I'm a chatty ole Kathy and getting all in everybody's business.
Controls are taking some adjustment, heal on O FFS? But it feels great to play and dropping all the ships systems apart from the engine for a sneaky bit gave me a chance to play with the controls more until I'm happy.
I'm super hard for it now though and can't wait to go back and play more later.

Yeah, just golden pathed it. Too many frustrations to spend much more time doing all the optional RPG stuff. If it was more polished, I would have done another playthrough/RP experience in NG+ as the set-up and intro to that is genuinely quite smart. It feels like more effort was made in making that than the actual onboarding start of playthrough one.
ed: lvl 26, almost exactly 18.5 hours.

I know people are sick to the back teeth of Skyrim rereleases, but honestly if they shoved it into this newer iteration of their engine and matched the environment fidelity I’d be as happy as a pig in shit.

I really am enjoying it so far.
I’ve honestly not had time for proper gaming for about a year, so this is most welcome.
It does feel uncannily like I’m just carrying on with Fallout 4 a bit, though…

I know it's mostly fluff details but their clutter has improved immensely. From Skyrim where it's obvious all the lootable stuff as they're the only things on the table through fallout where they were blending them in a bit to this where just casting the mouse over the desk and it's littered with alsorts of shit.

They got Elianora to join the team, and a good job too. Some of the stuff she did for Skyrim and Fallout 4 was amazing.

That's actually quite cool. I've shielded myself from any news about it so I could go in as blind as possible. The Xenomorph biology research station on Kreet had some interesting reading amongs all the details. Can't wait to meet what they were studying .. trying to weaponise aliens .. terrormorph

Most ships have a Captains Box/Hatch for smaller things. There's also unlimited storage in the Lodge in your room and, even better, a smaller box in the basement on the table behind the research station which is also unlimited.

Ah fuck it, I'm going to refund it. It's all the same hallmarks of a bethesda game that I have come to despise over the years of exact same games in the exact same engine with the exact same jank.

True although I don't think the lodge storage link to the ship inventory so you have to hand carry everything back and forth, and of course you can't fast travel whilst encumbered. To be fair I'm not sure if storage in apartments you can buy link either as I haven't bought one yet. Hopefully it does as if not what's the point in them?

I have two ships, but I've lost the ability to assign crew to the first one and the second one got renamed to 'Pirate Ship' after my game crashed just now.
I was getting worried that there'd be no major bugs for a second

Definitely not just a question of reassigning which ship is your 'home' ship at a shipyard? It's in the edit menu I think.

Completely unplayable on my living room SFF PC. Whacked the settings right down to 1080p, low, etc. Game stutters anywhere between every 30 seconds and 5 minutes. 6600K, 2080, 16GB RAM, M2, so all at recommended requirements (aside from CPU which is actually below minimum lol).
Time to bring down the tower PC... I was actually enjoying that for 10 mins there -_-

If you have a wired lan, use Sunshine / Moonlight to stream the game between the two. It works beautifully. I'm playing on my living room TV from my tower PC in the office at the end of the garden. Moonlight runs on just about everything. Adds about 6ms latency which is barely noticeable. github.com/LizardByte/Sunshinegithub.com/moonlight-stream

Ah, I was under the impression you could assign crew to ships that weren't your home ship, nevermind. The crashing while trying to land at Akila and my ship getting renamed to 'Pirate Ship' is a definite bug tho, so I'm not completely silly.

So, uh... Is this actually a thing? (taken from the TV Tropes page on Starfield, spoilered because it's kind of a big exploit if true) It's kind of giving me Kingdom Hearts Donut Gummi Ship flashbacks
