Series X display options are Film Grain Intensity, Motion Blur and Depth of Field.
That's it.

In theory, I don’t need a precise HDR sliders menu if it’s actually tone mapping the raw HDR profile within the parameters you set in the console options menu. A problem is a lot of games ignore it.

I still never understand why devs keep adding shit like film grain and chromatic aberration into games, yes, yes, you want it to look like a camera in a movie but it looks fucking shit half the time.

Refunded it. Performance is as horrendous as I initially feared on my ageing PC (i5-8500/1660ti), it's by far the most demanding game I've ever tried on this system, although 30fps playing with a controller is still possible on minimum settings.
But worse, outside of graphics (i.e. in terms of story, characters, setting, gameplay...) I found it almost shockingly bland and uninteresting. I've only played 90 minutes, but in that time I haven't encountered a single thing that raised any interest whatsoever, not even a promise of something worthwhile in the future. Absolutely nothing that made me feel like I'd want to play more.
Sure I haven't seen much, but FO4's opening hour was 10x more exciting. Likewise ME:Andromeda, No Man's Sky and even Outer Worlds. Not a good sign in my book, so no thanks I'm out.

Default brightness/contrast/gamma is way too high, eveything looks washed out. Used the the nvida overlay thing to tone it down and it looks much better. I'll have to experiment with that. The Sharpen filter made Cyberpunk look even better than I thought it could when maxed out.

Yes it's absolutely maddening. Especially in a FIRST PERSON game. Human eyes don't have film grain, lens flair or chromatic aberration! It makes no sense.

Iceland MS Store Premium upgrade using a UK Visa worked immediately so thank you for prompt and I’m in for the weekend start whoot!
Based on the above is it suggested motion blur and film grain off as best graphics settings via Xbox S?

Tis what I did. Monzo had a little complain about being billed in ISK but then processed it anyway.

I say we take off and fly to Iceland (and nuke the entire site from orbit). It's the only way to be sure.

I'm wandering around New Atlantis, and it's gorgeous. I don't mind the lack of a map, it's fun just exploring and getting my bearings.
I've picked up quite a few quests from NPCs I've talked to, where the quests came up through the course of conversation where if I hadn't pressed them on certain options, I don't think the quest would have been offered. It's basically the same as "Tell me more/I don't have time", but written in a more organic, pleasant way.
I have encountered one character in the form of a relatively young-ish man who I'm 99% certain is voiced by relatively old man Tony Amendola, and hearing the old voice come out of the young face was a bit disconcerting.

I need to test if you can use a flight stick for the…err…flying. My warthog hasn’t had much action recently.
Now there’s a sentence.

Settled into a nice rythym with this after 3-4 hours or so, quite enjoying it.
Looks nice (the interior lighting in particular), controls well, combat is decent, thoroughly dug knocking out a ship's engines and boarding to unload a can of whoop-ass.
Not a huge fan of the inventory management or menu system in general if I'm honest, but not a deal breaker.
And yes, the jump to planet, fly to landing spot, unboard process is definitely marred with various loading screens, but I'm also an impatient, lazy shit and the thought of doing it all myself seamlessly whilst initially appealling and immersive, also sounds like watching paint dry. I'm quite happy to bypass the pleasantries with a loading screen or two (or three) to be honest.

Put around 7 hours or so into this today and I’m loving it. It is basically Fallout 4 in space and that’s exactly what I was hoping for. If you didn’t get on with F4 then I don’t see this changing your mind much. Playing on Series X it’s been running great and I think it looks damn good. Only a couple of usual Bethesda jank moments with NPC’s doing random shit like falling out the sky when exiting a building. Perhaps I’m easily pleased but I had very high hopes going in and I’ve not been disappointed at all thus far.

As I said this morning, doing that in NMS was also quite boring and made the planets seems unrealistically small, despite technically being more realistic. I have just measured this, and it takes 7.75 seconds at 250 m/s to pass one angle degree of a planet I tested (it shows polar coordinates in the cockpit, which makes it easy to measure), which means this particular planet has a circumference of about 700 km. This means it takes about 4 minutes to fly around it at max speed outside of its atmosphere, but much longer within the atmosphere. With a ground vehicle it would take many hours.
So yeah, they are unrealistically small, but still huge compared to what's in other games. They also feel quite large in my opinion, when you approach one and it fills out your whole screen, but it still takes a while after that before you actually reach the outer atmosphere. This only works when you don't use the pulse drive, though. All in all I think they made a good compromise between keeping some illusion of the vast distances of space and the convenience of reaching places quickly enough without it being too boring.
But yeah, I actually prefer an instanced game that has a good storyline and some engaging gameplay to an immensely wide seamless game that is only an inch deep. I wish NMS had taken their frankly pretty good universe simulator and done something interesting with it. I'm still playing it from time to time, though, because I still haven't found that perfect looking starship.

So I put 6 hours straight into this tonight with no breaks. Not many games can get their hooks into me like this, so it must be doing something right.
It's quite a slow burn so far,but I'm impressed just how many people you can talk to once you reach New Atlantis, you can get thoroughly absorbed.
It's far from perfect though. When in conversation, I have had other npc's ear wigging in getting very close, others have photo bombed the screen. Some just straight up walk into you. It's typical Bethesda.
I hear the game only gets better from here. The fact I am thoroughly enjoying it already gets me quite excited.

I'm up to 8 hours play time now, and it was 7 hours before I even went to meet with Constellation. The rest of the time I was just wandering around New Atlantis, taking it all in and doing various quests for people I'd met. I wasn't expecting The Well, but the whole upper and lower stratas thing is really nicely implemented. I had a good long fascinated stare at the waterfall down there, as I noticed hints of rainbow light flickering at the edges of the water. The day/night cycle is really nice, the city looks great all lit up at night, and even the weather effects are pleasant. A light rain started during the night time, and I enjoyed looking up at it.
Stuff I've done so far:
• Become a gentlemen thief. No stealing from the innocent, but if you're even slightly dodgy, I'll pocket your stuff. • Got into the art theft game.
• Located someone I can fence my half-inched goods to. • Nicked an absurdly powerful sniper rifle. • Nicked a military grade space suit.
• Got into some illegal hi-jinks during a mission involving trees. • Broke into an apartment only to be attacked by a vicious robotic guard dog. • Done humanitarian work for the House Of The Enlightened. • Learned a recipe for Shepherds' Pie.

I forgot to mention this yesterday, but one of the male appearance presets is essentially Amos Burton from The Expanse, and you can give him Naomi Nagata hair. Amused me.

DF say it isn't broken. It looks very nice, but the idea it's just a Bethesda RPG in space puts me off a bit. This is kind of where I am. It has been interesting and very entertaining reading the reviews (and meltdowns) on the internet, but if even the most positive ones are saying it’s largely just a typical Bethesda RPG but in space, and the good bits come outside of the main campaign… well, that just makes me remember that I bounced hard off Skyrim and Fallout 4 (both abandoned incomplete), so it’s probably not going to be for me. I’m probably going to give Baldur’s Gate 3 a go on PS5 instead… The more I think about it the more I realise that the setting of Fallout did a lot for me.
