For those that have played both, Is this fundamentally different to The Outer Worlds? I played OW and enjoyed it at the start but fizzled out quite quickly. I played about 6hrs of OW and thought it was very mediocre, and have now played 3hrs of this. It's been far better at grabbing my attention and the world building and presentation is much more my cup of tea. They aren't that similar. If you don't like Bethesda RPGs it'll disappoint but assuming you were wanting one when you bought OW, I think you'll like this a lot more. |

Played another hour and I just don't think I am in the mood for a lengthy rpg...you would have thought I might have considered this before starting! oh well no matter, I have it for when I want to get stuck in. I hope you all have wonderful adventures across the galaxy, hopefully at least one of you will go to Button Moon

One little detail I've not seen mentioned is how that you get to name your character in free-text and then… … a robot actually uses your name in voice lines. Presumably they've got a bunch of names recorded! Might be worth using your normal human name if you want to hear it, I'm not sure Mumshagger420 will be in there... unless it's using AI? |

Presumably they've got a bunch of names recorded! Might be worth using your normal human name if you want to hear it, I'm not sure Mumshagger420 will be in there... unless it's using AI? They did that in Fallout 4, too. I was really impressed, as my name isn’t one I usually find in games names list, or souvenir license plates or whatever. |

One little detail I've not seen mentioned is how that you get to name your character in free-text and then… It's apparently about 1200 records they are using for this. Not sure why they can't just use text to speech, especially for a robotic sounding companion.
Maybe there will be a mod that lets you use this: ttsmaker.com/ to add your own name to the game. |

I’m pretty sure the last game I pre-ordered was Borderlands 2. A more innocent time when I had fewer kids, disposable income, and actually gave a shit about Golden Keys and unique guns that were obsolete almost immediately. I won’t be paying extra just to start my several hundred hour slog a bit earlier than everyone else, but I’d probably still be an absolute mark for “get a unique item that you’ll never have unless you preorder!”. Thankfully that practice seems to have died off. Don't think I'm going to listen to this guy actually |

I'd be interested to see how this plays (or doesn't) on Steam Deck or ROG Ally. I can't imagine it'll run that well, even at the lowest settings.
Might try installing it on Steam Deck over the weekend just to see...

Just installed the DLSS mod (went for the reshade version for a bit of sharpening) and I think it looks a bit cleaner. Not night and day but slightly less shimmer and aliasing perhaps.
My first time playing around with this stuff outside of whatever's in a game menu. Anyone know what the presets A -> F relate to?

It defaulted everything to Ultra settings on my system, and for the first time ever, I actually prefer the look of something with motion blur enabled. Buttery smooth, no stuttering or texture pop-in, although my 3080 was running in the 80 degree range.
I don't like the solid background on subtitles.

Don't know if it's related to the mod or my setup but I have a found a fairly serious bug.
If I try and turn off Vsync I get an immediate CTD, every time.
Anyone else on PC seeing this?

You have the same GPU as me, and looks like a similar experience. I found it wasn't so smooth at native 1440p, and does need to upscale using FSR or DLSS from 1080p. I'm now testing my couch setup to my 55" TV over moonlight using a wired lan connection. Had to set res scaling slider down to 50% (i.e. HD) to maintain smoothness but as far as I can tell I have a smooth upscaled 4K60 at Ultra now. The City struggles a little (which is why I wanted to try turning off Vsync) but I have a feeling it's a CPU not GPU bottleneck. |

I don’t usually do this but I’ve been watching some let’s plays from the beginning to the game.
It seems a shame a lot of the space faring and travel is broken up by loading screens and menus.
Not expecting seamless interplanetary or amospheric travel but they could have upped the immersion by having loading cut scene animations not break the first person perspective in your cockpit. Ie when you take off from a planet or warp to a new destination. The loading animation could just then be a warp corridor or going up through the atmosphere from the perspective of the cockpit.
Or if you access the nav computer from the cockpit instead of just pressing tab.
I’m very tempted to just pull the trigger and get it.

2.3yrs of Gamepass loaded up for £10 more than Premium version purchase using the Live Gold to Ultimate conversion method.
Pre-loading now ready for Weds GP go-live. Seemed like the best way to go.
