I'm "too early" for the Xbox version apparently.
Meanwhile my brother, who's sponging the PC version from my subscription, is already in. Although he's just messaged me that it's crashed 3 times in the space of 10 minutes.
The joys of modern game launches.

Try restarting your Xbox. Sometimes, it just needs a fresh connection to the server. Doesn’t work every time though.

Day 1 mod for me will be remove damage numbers and enemy healthbars. You're in luck, this is a toggle in the game settings.

Jackfrags has the opening hour or so on PC on his YouTube.
I'm not a big Bethesda fan at all, but despite some flat sounding characters it looks much much better than I expected watching him just now. Playing it on PC at 60fps, does seem to make the world of difference mind.
Travel between planets seems to work much like like Mass Effect with added space flight bits thrown in, which for me is fine.. Just wish they hadn't sold it as "go anywhere, explore anything"

I'll probably wait until this is in the sale in 3-4 years time. I'm following this strategy, so I'm thinking it might be about time to pick up Skyrim.

First 90 minutes...it is ok! I am taken aback by how it looks no better than FO4! I know graphics are not everything but it still caught me by surprise. Also gunplay (only lvl 2) and enemy ai not as tight as I would have hoped.
Re thoughts on initial play, and I except I'm talking just over an hour but I was blown away from the getgo by TLoU,RDR2,GoT,Spiderman, not so much this. If I'm being honest I am a touch disappointed, not sure what I expected. I'm almost certain I will end up loving, I will put in several hours over the weekend.

I just remembered that GamePass Ultimate includes PC GamePass too. I’m so used to just playing on the Xbox so it never crossed my mind. I’d prefer to play it in 4K on the TV but maybe I’ll just load it up on the laptop and not worry about deleting shit on the console. I haven’t been excited for video games much this year, but it’s really hitting me as this nears its release. Nevermind, I need that 4K. Didn’t realize how fuckin’ big Jedi Survivor was. Over 130GB! Seeing as I’ve only booted it up once, it’s the clear choice to get the boot. Preload commence!

So just launched the preloaded game for the first time and get a message that a 117GB update is downloading.
It can't be actually downloading as it's going at 300MB/s, must be a local unpack/copy. So not too bad a wait but still a bit weird. Can't believe we still get these sorts of delays in this day and age. Joys of PC Gaming I guess

I don't recall being blown away by any Bethesda game in the first hour. Some of them certainly had good fun ideas, but their graphics have always been a bit average for interiors. The wow moment was always that first 'step outside' moment after the tutorial. Already aware from reviews this doesn't have that kind of moment which is a bit of a shame.

Every single review states the game doesn't really get good until you beat the main story, to the degree that theyre asking people to just blast their way through it and ignore side content. "Game only gets good 30 hrs in" is a bit of a hard sell and opinion is split over whether the main narrative is any good or not but sounds like the endgame is worth it, whatever it js. I'm looking at the footage and I can just feel the clunkiness in aiming like Fallout so I'll pass for now.

Can't see subscription sharing working well with the PC version as it'll just use the same account.

I've played an hour. Basically got to the character creator, done that and gone another 10mins. However I'm really taking it slow.
- Running on default Ultra settings at 1440p (what it preselected for me) except Motion Blur to Low and Film Grain to 0.1. Performance is great. I don't know what the frame rate is but it feels north of 60 thus far, no stutters or anything yet. - Texture work is superb and lighting is very good. Sound also very decent. - Character creator is ok. I made a bloke that looks a bit like me because I have minimal imagination. - I went with Industrialist background as I tend to like to use persuasion in these things. Extrovert, Empath and Taskmaster traits felt in keeping with that. - Doesn't seem to have any HDR? Probably wouldn't use it to start with anyway as my PC monitor isn't great at that, but will want it for couch play later. - Might be because I last played a Bethesda game 8 years ago on PS4 but to my eyes it looks miles better than FO4. I don't have the problem of feeling like it's 'just FO4 in Space' at present. I guess on a Series S the gap might be a lot smaller. - Already had some classic Bethesda nonsense. They still haven't managed to do NPC pathfinding to walk around you. They just barge you out the way. Bless them. - Muscle memory kicked in and I already have an inventory full of gaffer tape and wire scavenged from all the desks and shelves in the tutorial area. Probably don't even need it. I might have a long standing psychological problem.

Ended up off work today due to illness. It’s pissing down with rain and I feel gross.
Should finish Under The Waves but tempted to just binge this.

PSA for when you name your character, it seems good to give a first name and surname though you are presented with just a single box.
It seems that certain characters will refer to you by your surname. i.e. if you entered John Smith, you will be referred to as Captain Smith. If you only put a first name in you'd presumably be Captain John.

Some of the texture work is absolutely incredible. The detail is amazing. I've definitely played more visually impactful games with better graphics, but I don't think I've played one with as detailed textures. No wonder it took them a decade to make. Some of the instrument panels are clearly a labour of love.

I named my lad Dodgy Cunt. I'm refunding it. Just shy of the 2 hour mark and all I've thought is 'this doesn't have any of the whoa... this is cool' feelings good games give me. Will play it once it hits GP proper.

That's a good start. Had Starfield and premium add on preloaded through the Xbox app on PC. Clicked to start and I've to download the whole thing again!

I'm almost tempted with it but already just had a reshuffle to make space for things on the Xbox (100gb for MCC just to play Reach)
They need to start putting much bigger hard drives in as standard
It's possible to uninstall the individual games you don't play in the MCC, and you can even select the SP or MP component to install/uninstall. The menu system is horrific, but if you search around you'll find the option eventually. Good tip

kilters Are sure it's actually redownloading? See my comment from earlier. It was some sort of weird local thing in my case and 117GB took about 5-10mins. Annoying but not such a big deal. The message on screen is quite misleading. It is treated by Xbox app as a download except it can't be as it happened at about 50x faster than would be possible for a true download. Also double check the app hasn't queued this task below another game that needs to download a genuine update (which also happened to me). Stupid app design.

Having read the PC Gamer review I'm sticking with my pass. If someone who is enthusiastic about Fallout 4 thinks its kinda eh, I will definitely find it awful as Fallout 4 was soooo dull. It wasn't but everybody has different tastes. Still preferred 3 or new Vegas though

I'm following this strategy, so I'm thinking it might be about time to pick up Skyrim. I mean, Skyrim was released 12 years ago I am generally 4-5 years behind. Only played RDR2 this year. But once it's been out a few years I forget about it, until the next thing reminds me. Cyberpunk coming out reminded me to play Shadowrun. System Shock coming out reminded me to go back and try to finish Shadowrun Witcher 3 coming out reminded me to play Witcher 1. The last Tomb Raider game coming out reminded me to play Tomb Raider Anniversary Etc.. I may be running slightly behind.
