I'm mainly disappointed at the loading between areas or when opening some doors. Fade to black? FFS! Ironically it's something the PS5's faster drive would probably have smooshed to irrelevance.

Cyberpunk has a really impressive looking city (REALLY impressive), but I hate how all CDPR’s characters look like they’re made out of silly putty.

I prefer that to an actual loading screen. The original Deus Ex and Half-Life both just popped a loading message up on the screen, which was fine. All games should just do that

Considering the actual differences in loading between PS5 and XSX versions of games is usually .5ms, I really doubt it’d make any difference here.

The IGN review is interesting. It sounds like the gameplay is still very flawed for many reasons - design, tech, scope - but what’s there, warts and all, still manages to sell the overall fantasy of just being a space adventurer. Which, I suspect, is going to make up for 90% of the shortcomings.
Ed: I think the disappointment that I’m feeling isn’t really in the game itself, though there a few things that sound a bit poor. It’s more that the footage shows a game that, despite being better rendered and animated, and certainly has some very cool hard surface future-realism design , it still basically just looks like Fallout 3 underneath it all. I’d really like Bethesda to upgrade their tech.
Can’t fault them for the ambition of it though. Might watch the Netflix Doc they recommended tonight.

All games should just do that I'd prefer no loading screen at all. It's 2023 and there's an NVMe drive in the fucking thing! Make it seamless, or hide it with a transition. Loading screens? Fade to black? Backwards.

Or be smart like Mass Effect and replace them with elevators

Day 1 mod for me will be remove damage numbers and enemy healthbars. I'll be waiting for the release day angry rant from Blue_Mike who has already hit the 400 installed mods limit and the new hard drive he ordered for screenshots hasn't been delivered on time

Or be smart like Mass Effect and replace them with elevators And people complained! And we got stupid long loading screens instead. Give me cute banter between Garrus and Tali or whoever over that shit any day.

He did say in the GB quick look he had to go back to an old save because he was no longer able to land on the main story planet due to a bug.

Sounds about where I thought it would be; a game still hamstrung by old Bethesda hangups that is otherwise a very good RPG. Not worth buying a console specifically to play but one I'm definitely looking forward to trying somewhere down the line when I can. I'm sure most people looking forward to it won't be disappointed.

“Cutscening across the galaxy”
“Click a star on a galaxy map and it'll show you a solar system. Click a planet and it'll zoom in. Click the planet's moon to zoom in again, click the spot you'd like to land (anywhere but the ocean), then watch a cutscene of yourself landing. Space travel, docking, boarding, and getting onto and off your ship is a series of cutscenes, black screens, and loading screens. “
That does sound like quite shit.

Give me cute banter between Garrus and Tali or whoever over that shit any day. Going back to the ultimate edition recently I thought this was great. All the banter you can stomach, and then no further delay. Nowadays there really is no excuse for it, but Bethesda really *really* don't want to rewrite any part of their underlying engine. It's maddening.

ACG review has focused in on the things I'm excited for. I am sad about take off and landing being cut scenes though. That's shit.
I always think with this type of game reviewing it must also be shit. It's so big but you're rushing through it, sat down for endless hours desperately trying to see enough to pretend you know enough to write a comprehensive review for a tight deadline. Imagine you don't get to breathe and enjoy it.

I’m okay with landing being a cutscene because I know I’d crash that shit otherwise.

As long as you get a nice glamour shot of your custom ship/character, that sounds fine to me Expectations for this are wild. Like wanting to be able to explore the entirety of space and the surface of planets seamlessly
Even if that is possible with current tech, it ain't Bethesda doing it

There are already 5 reshades and a Todd Howard splash screen available.

I’m not going to overanalyse this €52 purchase. Thats like 4 of those space age technology boxer briefs I keep hearing about.

Having watched acgs review I think I'm going to really enjoy this. Same. I liked how surprised he seemed about how much he enjoyed most (but not all, good critical review) aspects of it.

Even at the high purchase price - size of game, future development (official and mods) and decent quality game I think you could spend €50 on worse games for sure!

I’d be willing to give this a shot at full price, but not shell out for a whole new console.
Might have to have a flick through game pass catalogue and see what else there is I want to play. Have always fancied MS Flight Sim and Forza thou.
Tricksy.

Yeah that ACG review makes it sound amazing. A Bethesda game but with really good combat!!! Exciting. Looking forward to hearing this apparently masterpiece level soundtrack as well.
