You will then curse and hobble to the nearest safe area with a box/bench/backpack loot deposit box where you will stash your excess baggage. At which point you will then fast travel to the nearest vendor to offload your affordable wares. You will then fast travel back to your stash to grab said excess wares to continue your voyage of discovery in denial that anything just happened.
On the plus side you shall not be charged for your excess baggage nor for the boarding pass you forgot to print. Bar a few more lost minutes of your life.

I’m definitely pro-encumbrance. If I don’t have to spend hours unpacking and putting different types of item and equipment into location- and size- suitable containers in my home base, what’s even the point?

I’ve always just assumed the Oz Dollar is one of those comedy currencies where there’s around 7000 to the Pound, and everyone drives around with a Ute full of it. Dollary-doos. |

Yes, maybe, but I want to go 'balls out' on my first playthrough, explore all the game's systems, etc. I'll save a more niche cowardly character for my second playthrough. |

It used to be like 3 Aud to the pound, so it was dirt cheap when I visited there 20 years ago.
Of course these days the pound is the comedy currency, so things have changed a lot. Surprised it's currently about 1.9Aud to the pound tbh. I'd have expected them to be almost on parity.

Not sure whether to read all the reviews. If it’s amazing I’ll be left with no choice but to buy yet another bit of hardware.
If I just ignore them and pretend the game doesn’t exist I may just be able to avoid forking out for a new console.

I've seen mostly positive comments so far. A lot of 'give it time' sentiments that suggests it's a slow starter.

This from VGCs review is basically Bethesda's secret sauce:
"These planets rarely have all that much to actually do on them, save for scanning the environment and collecting resources, but there have been just enough times where we’ve landed on a planet and found an exciting side mission or something we didn’t expect, that we felt compelled to land on every planet we found."
I really hope I end up agreeing as (replacing planets with dungeons POIs & vaults) this is what Oblivion, FO3 and Skyrim managed, and FO4 did not.

The DF video says as such, they really liked, thought it had great performance, extremely polished for a Bethesda title but the planets are largely devoid of anything interesting to do.

So far it sounds mostly like it's Skyrim in Space. But I think there is at least one aspect in which it's even worse, and that is the lack of a continuous and seamless exploration experience. The landing zones make it feel "instanced" instead, where you hop from fast travel to fast travel, activate your scanner, go to the quest icon, do your thing, and get back.
Of course, that's not really their fault, it's just a reality of a space game. Space is big and nobody has time to seamlessly fly everywhere and explore on your own when the chances are almost zero to find anything.
But at least in No Man's Sky you can do this if you want. Just fly over the surface of a planet and try to find a portal, trading post, rare resource depot or whatever. Not that there is a point in doing so, because you can just scan and then get an icon and use your pulse drive to get there quickly. But it's possible.

Common concensus seems to be that it is not as "charming" as Skyrim was and in a lot of ways is quite "dry". But theres a heck of a lot of game there and some of it is darn good.
It sounds stable and janks aside plays well.
Poor AI, undevelped mapping systems and irritating inventory complications seem the biggest bugbears.
8/10 sounds like its where its at! (one to Gamepass and not buy outright for now then by the sound of it?)

I think we can also be reasonably confident that it's not a Cyberpunk-esque buggy broken mess at launch. Just as well when you are charging people to play it 'early'.
