I believe they still do. The metacritic scores relating to bonuses that is.

It does seem ironic that probably the most unsuitable game for Gamepass MS will release in the next few yrs is probably creating a surge in GP subs.
Ultimately it will be a far better game in 2yrs time once there is official bugs fixed, expansion added, community fixes and mods available etc. so probably the best game to actually purchase rather than sub for…
That said RRPs on new games are painfully high atm so subbing for it still appeals in that aspect.
If Starfield flies (no pun intended) odds on another GP subs price increase very high? Likely imo…

I'm oddly torn on whether to buy this or not. I currently have the GP version preloaded but all its files are hidden away cos you know, Xbox store is shit.
I'm fairly confident this is going to create issues with modding. Also, when my GP sub lapses and I eventually buy it on steam, all my progress/saves etc... ugh 😩

My download on Xbox pc was 130+ giggle bytes. What else did I get, no way they shaved 50gig in compression

I'm assuming it is heavily compressed and will unpack a fair bit for installation, unless the unlock download is quite a bit larger than usual. I had a similar thing happen with Cyberpunk.

I quite like Metacritic and review scores in general, especially for things that have passed me by.
I'll read reviews from select sites (RPS, Edge and the like) but I don't have time to read them all and an average score at a glance is a really handy indicator as to whether I should look further into a game/film/album I've not heard of.

I believe they still do. The metacritic scores relating to bonuses that is. How fucking ridiculous if true, given that they appear to be gaming their own reviews to get better ratings to pay themselves bonuses. Maybe just pay people fairly to begin with with tips based on sales and player engagement.

I mean, it's the AAA gaming space. Treating their employees well isn't happening any time soon as long as people keep buying in their droves.

I watched the Netflix James web telescope documentary, was pretty awesome. I am hyped for this, but will just pick up later in September.

I wouldn't bother, Outer Worlds is very average. how right you are. I had it downloading already so decided to have a go. Everything feels way to oversized, like I'm zoomed in too close and there doesn't appear to be any weight, it's just floaty.

Up until this thread I didn’t realise anyone gave a shit about metacritic any more. I thought that died a death around 2010 when everyone seemed to agree review scores were a load of old toss. The wheel of nerd rage keeps turning. Honestly nowadays I only visit Metacritic to see funnies like Diablo IV's scores plummeting after the patch, or toxic FF16 and TotK fanboys review bombing each other I'll read the odd review here and there, but when it comes to games I've never heard of I usually do some research of my own regardless instead of just relying on review scores

I don't think I'd ever use a User review score on Metacritic as a barometer of how good the game is.

Oh of course not, neither would I, I meant professional reviews with the "read the odd review here and there". The user review scores I look at just for the fun of it

Decided to use some of my 103'000 MS gamepass quest points and "pay" for the upgrade, mainly for the expansion later on down the road. Bonus that I will get to play a few days earlier...or not the ps5 and BG3 are in the same room.

I always get Outer Wilds and Worlds mixed up. One is awesome, the other is not.

I just watch a few video reviews from channels that sort of align with my tastes. That way, I hear how it plays, what its flaws are etc while also getting a visual image that helps decide if it’s for me or not. Arbitrary review scores are kind of meaningless to me, especially aggregate ones.

Different strokes and all that!
I'm not a fan of video reviews/content in general as I feel it gives away too much up front.
A decent average review score lets me know within a couple of seconds if something is worth looking into further - can't count how many amazing albums, films, board games etc. I've discovered that I wouldn't normally after glancing a high review average.
I'll not buy something purely from a score though - it's more an indicator to look further and read a few reviews/articles, then decide.

I just found it quite boring and not especially fun. Nothing I haven't seen before and I just quickly lost interest. It’s very by the numbers. I enjoyed it for awhile, but even being small by RPG standards, it wore out its welcome. Generic story, ugly art design, bland combat that could desperately use some biotic powers. It’s nice that after a generation of overblown open world RPGs (err hi starfield thread…), we got a more focused Knights of the Old Republic style one, but its execution was just mediocre. About the most fun was being an absolute bastard in one of the DLCs by helping both sides out and in the end fucking them over anyway. The fact that they programmed and wrote that outcome had me evil cackling my way off planet.

If I reviewed this game, that would be my tagline. No idea if it's true or not, but I'd enjoy the drama that ensued.

Apparently Bethesda actually commisioned that song from Imagine Dragons. Bordering on Ed Sheeran in Game Of Thrones level of cringe.
