I collect them, you are incorrect. What you saw may have been the recent Earthrise Scorponok, (which I have) which is about double the size of the original 80s one (which I had). There’s a picture of both together if you scroll down at the link. The new one is amazing. There’s a lot of different “ranges” of transformers they sell now. Lots you’ll see at the shops might be ultra-basic ones for kids, they’ve also got lines specifically to appeal to sad grown-up guys with fond memories of the (actually, ultra-basic) 80s ones. Some of the ones you can but these days are indeed shit, but a lot are amazingly cool works of engineering. www.cybertron.ca/boards/showthread.php?t=80341I think it was the original, though I can't be sure. Even the original was like twice the height of Optimus Prime.
I know what you mean about the different ranges, and I'm sure there are some great ones out now, but I was looking at the new Rise of the Beasts ones in the toy shop and they mostly looked like cheap plastic junk.
These were the ones aimed at kids, not the collector edition ones.
There's probably a lot of rose tinted glasses going on, but I remember the original transformer toys being large and pretty solid and having metal parts.

Oh yeah, that’s totally fair. The trash ones are trash. But the good ones are great. If you ever see a Kingdom Cyclonus at a reasonable price, I’d rate it as just about the greatest retail transformer made. (by which I mean, one you’d likely find in a shop for AU$30-$50, not some online-only thing costing hundreds) |

Without more context it's hard to know if it's personal or a petty/vindictive attack, or just political/bureaucratic nonsense.

On the plus side leaks from people with copies seem fairly positive. Also it sounds like PC performance is pretty good on midrange hardware, or at least not broken. There's a guy on Reddit supposedly getting 45-60fps @1440p on high with a 3800x & 2080ti. FSR2 is enabled though. I guess kind of tallies with Series X being locked 30. I’d take a wild guess that the UK marketing bods had a limited number of keys to dish out, read some of EGs more recent output and decided it’s probably more worthwhile to just not bother.
That or Roger Reedpop has done something unspeakable to Todd Howard in the past.

My missus got a load of her Lego back when her parents moved about 12 years ago. She built the pirate ship for the lols, which kick-started a VERY expensive hobby. We must've spent thousands on it since then... Oh man, I had some pirate lego, but I always wanted the original Lego Black Seas Barracuda pirate ship. I saw it on eBay about 4 years ago, complete, boxed, but with no instructions for £150. Kicking myself for not buying it now, but I was unemployed at the time. I think everyone's had a eBay regret.  I wanted this set, it was boxed with all pieces intact, but it was November time and I had spent up for Xmas so no spare cash. This was a good 12 years ago now but I do ponder it every now and then. |

Apparently EG have received a review copy an hour after they posted that article. Not at all suspect from Bethesda. A cynical person would say this was done to make sure those places won't affect the first week metacritic scores.

Giving a code to DF but saying it can't be used by EG was just a wee bit sus. Tinfoil hat, but Metro and Grauniad also use the 5 star scoring system. I'd say it's definitely a case of not wanting the inevitable 4 star/80% reviews fucking up the early metacritic tally.

With the importance of the release to Microsoft, I definitely think it's a dodgy case of dodging the 4/5 scores rounded up to 80%.
Eurogamer's reviews I also find also vary between detailed and on the money, to self indulgent with little to nothing said about the game in question until 6 paragraphs in, if you're lucky.
Alan Wake taking a broadside for his wife being scared of the dark and in turn putting women in videogames back years, being one annoying example.
So maybe two reasons why Eurogamer maybe wasn't first on the list, especially when a devs typical output for all their good feel like they're held together by sellotape & weetabix.
Cautiously optimistic, though if it wasn't for gamespass I don't think be playing for at least a few months of patches.

Bet it's the five star thing. It's the kind of thing in the stupid sphere of videogames, where anything under 9/10 is somewhere on the sliding scale of terrible to forgettable, that having a five-point review scale does make you a drag on combined scores, which obviously matters a lot to marketing teams...
Always thought the games media should just own it and have a simple industry wide scale.

Good (currently 9/10)
Great (currently 10/10)
