Yeah that’s what I mean- it’s a cliché by now but looking out over an open world, picking a thing on the horizon and going “right, I’ll head towards that I guess” was magical. And I don’t see how Starfield could do that. I do wonder if the folks complaining about not being able to explore every inch of every planet are thinking in the same way- not that they’re right to complain, but they want something you can only get when the entire world/universe is small enough to have been fully curated by hand. There is no way in hell that most of the planets are going to have curated content any more complex than "oh look, there's some space bandits over in that camp", or random mineral deposits or whatever. Even if the developers wanted to handcraft that much content, they wouldn't be able to. Maybe AI could do that for them in the future, but right now I reckon most of the planets are going to be devoid of anything but procedurally generated stuff. I guess a lot of people are ok with that, and that's fine! For me it's like driving the Mako around in ME1 - it was fun, right up until I realised that there wasn't anything interesting to find. But I suppose others got the thrill of exploration from it regardless, so maybe Starfield will deliver on that front.

Quite likely because surely sentient life hasn't decided to colonise everywhere. There will plenty of moonrock type plentoids where you can simply just land and marvel at the view out into the cosmos.
Maybe you have the ability to drop on and setup a small mining outpost of your own for money/resources.
The amount of posts on socials all clamouring for every drip of detail and demanding to know every mechanic inside out is mind numbingly infuriating. Can people not just .. you know ... Wait and experience

Having never played any of the games, thanks to Giant Bomb I’m well aware of the jank and quest breaking bugs. Introducing procedural generated planets like No Man’s Sky would be recipe for disaster.

The hype is of course also carefully manufactured. Purely based on the noise this will be surely have a good commercial start.
Even I am hyped! Gamepass means I will play it.

I wouldn’t even bother walking 40 minutes from my own house, why would I care about that in a game?
Smaller and with more to do seems better than a massive barren wasteland.

Bethesda were going to let you explore the entire surface of planets but they didn't want to upset their flat earther demographic

Just remembered that Bethesda is big on encumbered states. As much as I love exploring, I’m going to hate crawling 40 miles to my ship to store that loot.

I'm quite looking forward to trying to recreate some famous sci-fi starships as best I can with the in-game stuff before the inevitable slew of mods that do perfect replicas.
Starbug would be a good fit because it's a modular ship, though I've not seen any spherical ship components in any of the previews yet.
Maybe the MV Seamus, if I can manage to make landing gear work with it somehow. Maybe lose the lower fin.
The Rocinante will probably be a pretty popular one, I would imagine.
A scaled down version of an Omega Class Destroyer could work, if the rotating gravity section were set horizontally to port and starboard.
Defiant Class? Maybe, if the deflector/torpedo warhead were turned into a cockpit.

Obviously most of the planets will be empty. I imagine it'll be like ME2 that one or two in a system might give you a reason to land. The rest will just be scanning/mining procedurally generated resources and plants.
If they can do a variation on the Oblivion/Skyrim dungeons / Fallout 3 vaults whereby each 'base' or outpost with a quest attached is hand curated, it won't matter to me that there's loads of stuff around it that isn't.
The procedural generation just makes sense for making the universe believable and the illusion of journeys across space realistic (ish), but I hope the destinations themselves will be lovingly hand crafted with variety and intrigue.
I am intrigued as how we stumble across them. I'm guessing it'll be a case of 'picking up a a signal', perhaps after manually scanning a system to replace nearby icons appearing on your compass.

Not gonna lie, I am going to run a Dave Lister character with Red Dwarf and Starbug as my ships.

Sure on PC, modders will quickly add anything missing to create sphere like objects (if they are missing at launch) also no doubt there will giant penis like ships as you know what gamers are like

I’ll probably end up subconsciously building versions of the Best Spaceship Ever from my youth (And it’s also modular)

This was always the best spaceship ever... but it was too big and expensive and so I could only ever dream of it.

I used to have that one! (Bills that is).
I don't think I had Hedbens one but I think I had that unusual looking piece In the middle so I may have done.
Medieval Lego was where is was at for me. Especially when combined with crossbows and catapults stuff.

It's almost as if people are angry at the fact a game is being release for them It should be fairly obvious what to expect with a Bethesda game but somewhere along the line it became a big budget No Man's Sky with full exploration of the universe and planets. The game is still made on the Creation Engine where they only just solved ladder climbing.

I can't believe I forgot to put the USCSS Nostromo on the list. It's the perfect size, it's industrial aesthetic matches the game, it's got landing gear...

So eager for this I installed fo4 to play for a few hours. Afterwards I remembered that Outer Worlds is on gamepass and I could have played that for a bit.

People who've already pre-loaded reporting a patch being downloaded taking it from v1.6.35.0, to v1.7.23. Might still be more to come before Day One.
Patch notes, if real, are slightly spoilery.

It does look weirdly familiar. I didn't think I had a space ship that big, but maybe. Or maybe I just dreamed of it. Or maybe a mate had it. Or maybe I had one of the smaller versions.
I remember the laser barred iso-cubes. The front cockpit detached right?
Why is this cooler than any of the current Lego space ships??
