“Most polished launch title” should read “first polished launch title.” Will be very interesting to read the reviews if it truly is!

It's horrible. But if you play a game 5 years after release for the first time, it usually has all the DLC and shit included for a reasonable price. So I doesn't really affect me too much, but I do find it horrible. i regularly find myself playing offset by a few years so usually have access to all the extra stuff for peanuts. I don't know why I do it, maybe it's a preference thing as I get older. I used to care about wxtra in-game add-ons (e.g guns in Borderlands) on new releases but 4 hours in you've either outlevelled them or found something more interesting anyway so what's the point. For collectors that want steelbooks, maps or models etc. it's a different story but again, that shits not for me. I buy games to play games and I'm not swayed by a load of tertiary bullshit.

I think the combination of Redfall's ramshackle state and Bethesda's known quantity for jank has definitely influenced this. Microsoft can't really afford another big 1st party game shitting the bed. And shit, Halo Master Chief Collection AND Infinite launched in rough states as well, so they really can’t risk another.

Master Chief Collection redeemed itself over time to be an exceptional product so I don't think it counts here. Halo Infinite was fine on technical level, on console at least, pc not so much so but that one was more down to lack of content, a million broken promises and a flagship product being visually underwhelming.

Yeah, but we’re talking about launch though, right? Most big games get updated, but a bad launch can taint a game’s image for some time, much like what happened to Cyberpunk for like a year.

Yeah, I get it but I think enough time has passed and enough good work has been put in the MCC that I don't think it has the baggage that it had when it launched in the Xbox One era. The issue more is the public perception of barely any 1st party next gen games being released and the last one was an absolute dumpster fire and for all intents and purposes seems to have been abandoned. Starfield has to come out swinging or I think they're in trouble.

I imagine the console build will review quite positively while the PC version will generate all sorts of internet outrage from The Usual Types about poor ports and being treated like second class citizens.
Personally I'm hoping for a repeat of the Jedi: Survivor situation, where on launch I was one of the few with none of the technical issues that seemed to plague others, by some weird quirk of my particular hardware configuration. Of course as soon as the patches started to come down, that broke things for me that were fine before.

By "polished" I will assume we mean "Brought up to a playable standard by modders"

Absolutely correct- for Xbox they have to nail this. I still just can’t quite believe Bethesda aren’t about to release a right old mess though.

People combing through the EULA have apparently noted the confirmation of the Creation Club, which should surprise nobody.

Speaking of modders the guy who's made the DLSS mod for other games will be working on one for Starfield but it will be paid for though through his Patreon.

Buy Bethesda currency to spend on mods that are officially endorsed. Occasional free stuff, not sure what rationale they use to decide what goes free but I logged in to the Fallout 4 one the other day and they had power armour paint job and PIP-Boy paint scheme going for free.

Shit, I wasn’t even thinking about mods.
Maybe I’ll wait till the inevitable Macho Man mods are made.

Hmmm, I hadn't even considered the possibility of mods on console. Wonder if they'll be available soon after launch. I modded the heck out of Skyrim and FO4, but that was only after thoroughly playing the vanilla version. And to be honest, by the time they were added I probably spent more time messing with mods than actually playing the game. I might lay off them until I've played it "as the devs intended" first ...

I’ve watched this - it’s good. Makes you realise how impressive the JWT is and the effort which has gone into getting it up there.

I still remember Hubble going up and only recently googled it to realised it was ... 1990 FFS. Jesus time has flown Remember it was knackered at first, and they had to send up a robot to breathe on the lens and wipe it? Or write software to correct it. Something anyway, it got sorted.

The telescope's mirror wasn't manufactured correctly (caused a blurred image) so they had to send some astronauts on a mission to fit a corrective lens to account for the mirror's flaws, or to put it another way, they gave the telescope some glasses.

You'd think they'd have checked that prior to sending it up there
