They aren't too bad when you watch it in 4K, although they could be better.

This basically looks like what teenage me thought the follow up to Privateer 2: The Darkening would be like. Didn’t realise it would be 30 odd years later though.
Just needs more Clive Owen.

You should go back and play Telltale's The Walking Dead. That game had some eyes

It looks like the realisation of what both NMS and Elite wanted to be, or an achievable version of Star Citizen. The fact it's single player should help it, lets it be a little bit more curated.

Loved the look and feel of this, the variety, every little thing they showed, but I know I will never be able to play it unless JuniorFE tags along to help me keep tabs with its systems Good luck with that. I swore off FPSs after Destiny and I'll need more than what's shown here to consider playing one again It looks good, don't get me wrong...
... but, it's not a mere FPS, ya know!?!

Putting aside the fact that you got through Elden Ring just fine... I might help you design some starships. That's about the only part of that I'm interested in trying

Let's hope it's not gonna be not a mere FPS like Fallout 3 was not a mere FPS: by being a shitty FPS with shitty story and ignorant random placement of points of interest, all shoehorned into a more or less redundant RPG sandbox.

Poor DaddyFE.
also in that scenario, shouldn't Junior be Spidey?

I've ended up taking about 80 screenshots, not gonna post them all obviously, but the ones I do post, I will do them in chunks by type, ones about the UI, ones about the settlement mode, the crafting, the faces, etc. I've noticed some really neat stuff in the details.

Maybe. But really, it would be better if Bethesda just made the tooling and would lend their artistic workpower to a dev who actually knows how to make a game.

I don't necessarily disagree but the games are still fun
The engine needs to go though. FPS games they ain't. I'm not sure how fun it would be without VATS, to be honest. Even shooting a radroach outside of a VATS is a pain

Yeah, they are fun for a while. I also put more than 100 hours into Skyrim, despite finding it pretty dull now. It's just...it could be so much more with not that much effort.

I never cared for VATS personally, but I was never a fan of Fallout, pre or post Bethesda.
Combat looks less bulletspongey, so I imagine it'll be improved a bit compared to their older titles.

Good lord, this is running on a new version of their engine - Creation Engine 2. Just, maybe use Unreal instead?

I have wondered why they haven't used idtech. Regardless I thought it looked pretty good and I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Yeah, idtech would be ideal (jc; anything but UE), because it's good at balancing high quality with high performance.
But maybe it's not optimized for big open worlds? Everything that's run on it was been focused on more contained areas. Would be my guess.

Was feeling pretty meh about the reveal during the first half. The shooting looked maybe a bit above Bethesda's usual combat, but the AI was looking dull. They seemed to focus quite a lot on the shooting too, which is clearly not going to be the strong point. Once we got to characters, they seemed technically a step up, but the writing of them seemed the usual blandness that has been in the Elder Scrolls and their Fallout games.
Then we can to the construction stuff and that looked a little more interesting. There did actually seem like opportunities to create unique basses and ships, so that is cool.
All the while though, I was wondering where the space part of this space game was. Eventually the Toddster got to that point, announcing it as if it were some kind of surprise. That looked fine, but we only really saw combat and that looked around about the same level as the ground based combat. It also looked suspiciously like the planets bit was just a fancy looking menu, which makes me wonder how much flying between systems and Elite style stuff we are going to be able to get up to.
I've never been a big fan of Bethesda games, so perhaps I'm looking for the negatives more than the positives. I'm not completely writing it off and the concept still seems like it could be good. I just have a feeling that it is going to end up being basically a lot of bland environments and the usual dull storytelling that Bethesda always produces, just with some space combat in-between it. I could be wrong, but want to hear some hands on before I really start losing my shit over it.

I've always liked Bethesda games to a degree, the biggest thing has always been the modding community behind their games and is what I'm looking forward to a lot.

It kind of was a surprise, because people thought it would just be some automatic transition between planets. the biggest thing has always been the modding community behind their games Yeah, at least that part is something Bethesda always got right. Good lord, this is running on a new version of their engine - Creation Engine 2. Just, maybe use Unreal instead? They will never change to a different engine. It's easier to update the renderer of their engine than it is to port all their knowhow over to a complete new toolchain.

Character Creation
So you get 5 screens to go through: Biometric ID, Body, Face, Background and Traits. The way the sliders on them are styled, they look very much like a representation of DNA markers in a genetic test. Maybe that's who "ARGOS EXTRACTORS" are, a company who extract information from DNA. Their company logo looks a bit like the Latin letter Æ, but I don't think there's any link.
Biometric ID
This I presume is where you can go select from a number of different preset starter options for character faces. Wonder what the "Nautilus" patch on the suit represents. Is it the name of your starter ship, is it a company you work for, or is it a suit manufacturer? Also, screen confirms you can change your appearance later.
Body
The dial where you select body type is almost exactly like the one from Fallout 4, only arranged in a circle rather than the triangle that used. Have we ever had Walk Style as an option before? Also, the UI has the option to toggle your suit on/off, and given that they didn't demo this in the trailer, I will assume for now that Naughty Bits are at least a possibility.
Face
Hair seems much less plastic looking than in previous Bethesda games. Nobody ever seems able to get the hairline quite right though, in a "That guy is wearing a very obvious syrup" sort of way.
Background
I like the sewn on patches look of the Skills icons. I wonder if these are displayed on outfits anywhere in the game. If not, I imagine modders will be on it fairly sharpish.
Also, Ronin is a background? I wonder how much Bushidō influence there will be in this.
Traits
Among the traits mentioned are:
Kid Stuff: Your parents are alive and well and you can visit them at their home. But 10% of all the money you earn is deducted automatically and sent to them.
Neon Street Rat: You grew up on the mean streets of Neon. You gain access to special dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions on Neon. Crime Bounty from other factions is greatly increased.
Starter Home: You own a small house on a peaceful little moon, but it comes with a 50,000 credit mortgage with GalBank.
There are at least three major religions in the game: The Enlightened, The Universal, and The Serpent's Embrace. If you follow one, you cannot access the stores of the other two. In addition, the description of Serpents' Embrace seems to include what might be a reference to a Red Dwarf joke (Seventh Day Advent Hoppists), where "Grav jumping provides a temporary boost to health and endurance, but health and endurance are lowered if you don't continue jumping regularly - like an addiction." Unless "Grav Jumping" is something your ship does rather than your character, in which case, it probably isn't a reference to "And the greatest of these is hop."
Also of note: Alien DNA. So, is this a confirmation of sentient alien life, or has somebody been splicing alien wildlife DNA with human DNA?
Also, terrible hipster mustaches confirmed.

UI
First of all, Photo Mode confirmed.
The radial display in the lower left acts as a compass when not displaying information from the scanner, and also monitors your O2 and Co2 levels.
Scanning
So that is essentially what you'd see in your Scanner view in No Mans' Sky. Even tells you how many types of Resources, Flora and Fauna are left to scan. How does it know that though?
Mining
The laser cutter you're carrying; is that something we have on us at all times, or is it an equippable item like pickaxes or woodcutting axes in Skyrim?
Docking
You can dock your ship with other ships, and possibly stations. I wonder if it's just friendlies you can do this with, or if you can disable enemy ships and loot them, rather than destroying them?
Smart-Watch
If this doesn't include a step counter, I will be disappointed. I want to know how far I've gone within an in-game day, and in the game in total.
Lockpicking
Hello lockpicking, my old friend. We've never had an "Undo" option in one of these before, have we? Maybe the greyed out "Auto-Slot" is some sort of skeleton key like function as you can acquire as you rank up Lockpicking skill, or perhaps a superior type of digital lockpick item?

Locations
Museum
This is a museum with a display on the "History Of Space Flight", featuring what appears to be models of the Apollo 11 command module, an Apollo Lunar Lander, the International Space Station, what seems to be a Lunar Rover in the foreground, and a banner depicting either a Saturn or Ares booster rocket, along with some other things I can't immediately identify.
Planet Jemison: New Atlantis City
I'll tell you right now, those trees are going to be one of the first things that gets updated by modders.
People in this Library looking place at New Atlantis are Constellation, who Todd Howard described as "the last group of space explorers" - is the guy in the painting on the wall their founder? Also, I notice that outside the windows it's daylight, whereas on the ceiling there's a starfield; this seems to be slightly in motion as the player moved through the scene, could be a holo-projector mounted in the ceiling?
Akila City
"Akila City, Est. 2167 by Solomon Coe" - Given that the opening of the trailer noted "SOL DATE: MAY 7, 2330", this means that humans have been settled on this planet for at least 163 years, possibly longer.
Akila City seems to be under the protection of a faction called The Free Star Collective. Who apparently hunt the Starfield equivalent of Deathclaws, and taxidermy their remains.
Neon (Maybe?)
This may be the "Neon" that was mentioned in the Traits screen. Or it could just be another location with a lot of neon signs.
Note the graffiti on the wall in the upper right that reads "They Are Coming" - Who are they, why are they coming, and from where?
Space Station
There are some other ships docked there already. I wonder if we'll be able to build or own stations?

Crafting
Research and Crafting appears to take place at various specialised tables much like it did in Fallout 4. In addition to the research station, there was a very brief shot of a weapon crafting/modification station.
I wonder how long research projects take to complete.
Can I just say at this point how glad I am that all of the menus are taking full advantage of the screen space, and not crammed into one area due to the constraints of a PIP-Boy screen?
Basic pistol.
When we the updated version, it's been modified with a sight, a barrel, what could be a laser or torchlight under the barrel, and an extended capacity magazine that gives it the feel of a battery pack that you'd snap on and off from a cordless power drill, which makes sense if it's an energy based weapon. On closer inspection, the text on the magazine and gun casing itself reads 7.77x37mm Caseless, so projectile based.
