Forced tutorial that didn't let you continue the main quest until you got things working. Expanding on that was optional i think, but I had uninstalled by then.

Wasn't the base building entirely optional? I never finished the game as there was something that was annoying me so I stopped but never needed to do the base. Later in the game you had build something, so whilst it wasn't exactly a base you did have to engage with the base building tools to complete the main story. I didn't mind Fallout 4; I completed the main quest and a few other bits, but ultimately it just didn't scratch the itch for me. I preferred Fallout 3. Yes, over New Vegas. Still think Skyrim hit the sweetspot *for me* in terms of casual immediacy vs. depth. Fallout 4 tipped too far into casualness. |

Really? I can't remember doing any of it past the forced tutorial... I hated it too, so would've expected something like that would've stuck in my memory (which is admittedly a bit rubbish).

To be honest it's been a while since I played it, but can recall having to build a transmitter tower to send a signal. Or maybe it was too block a signal. Idk, either way had to faff around with building generators to power it too.

Looks like it's gonna be a good sandbox, like FO3 and Skyrim and their other games. Time will tell if it will have to offer anything beyond that.

We'll see what happens by the time it actually comes out, but that trailer made me want to watch it, not play it, if that makes sense  I've just got too many things I want to play more than I'd want to play what I saw here I guess (and with my backlog and what's coming out, that's not changing even in a year...) That and I feel like, even if you're allowed to go third person in combat rather than just to scan things, it'd feel too awkward that way |

Had forgotten this would be Xbox exclusive....fairly sure I got one for my youngest at Xmas...

Looks good but you can tell that despite their efforts to make it look dynamic in the trailer, the feel and combat are going to be the same as Fallout. There's quite a bit of shooting enemies who are standing still or running straight at you. It'll play about as well as any Bethesda RPG
Not a game I'm going to get too hyped for. I'm expecting it'll be another janky Bethesda RPG - fun but not mindblowing
