Always found that weird about From games. People go on about how amazing it is that the games don't hold your hand so you have to work things out for yourself, then go online to ask about everything/use guides I can understand some people using guides as games are just too big these days and I just can't be arsed with Zelda or ER because it's to much time investment actually looking for stuff to do. But I wouldn't enjoy using a guide either so I just don't play them I do sometimes look up guides for From games, I have played and finished most of them without one though. I will admit my first experience Demon Souls, was absolutely abyssmal. I was always a glass canon type and poured all my stats in luck and dexterity with a Schimitar. Basicly made the whole game a tedious slog untill Maneaters where I just gave up. 2 years later I gave it another shot with a guide explaining world tendecies etc and had a much better experience. The beauty of wandering and experiencw only works if you understand the systems and mechanics. Its easy to suggest new people to just "wander" in Elden Ring when they have played 6 games like it. Furthermore, Elden Ring has some key items hidden away in the most moronic ways.

My gaming time is limited. Between 45h of work in a week, chores, the family i play no more than 15 hours per month. And there can be weeks long break between sessions.
I can't be arsed to spend couple months on game just wandering around trying to figure out where to go, find secret, complex mechanics which then 2 months later I need to relearn cause i forgot.

I don’t care about 1000G or 100%ing a game, but I’m in agreement with dave that looking at a guide ruins the experience. I’ll look in nooks and crannies to see it I find anything, but if I miss something, it’s fine. I think it’s even more baffling to use guides in Souls games, since their whole thing is git gud. How are you gitting gud if you’re following a walkthrough? If it's a game I really like and the achievements aren't a load of BS I'll go for the 100%. Especially games that encourage playing the story differently. Online achievements/trophies can fuck off.

Agree that cheevos are pointless. Purely a product of modern culture for competition and self-promotion online. It's the gaming equivalent of likes on social media so that people become even more invested in the platform.
My own gaming habits have changed pretty drastically in the last year. I used to be a night owl playing till the early hours until maybe a year ago my body just decided it would shutdown at about 11pm each night. Is this what getting old is? It's like a switch went off inside me somewhere. Very bizarre how instantaneous it was. Anyway... I have a window of about an hour or two each evening now to play things, but tbh I often CBA or the game needs to instantly capture me.
The From games have reallllly sunk their claws in since playing Elden Ring. Superficially they are completely straightforward: huge world with monsters and a story loosely draped over the top. Off you go. Perfect for not requiring much thought in that sense, but the gameplay is top notch.
First games I've dipped into guides for. Basically when I'm stuck or the game doesn't explain what a Ring of Poseidon's Wet Fart is for.

Poseidon’s wet fart is amazing when specced on the Envoy’s Horn 👍

Just discovered my gf will be away from September 2nd for 5 days.
I don't think I've ever paid extra for early access before but suddenly that Premium edition for 5 days early is mighty tempting. It would mean 3 days at least of judgement free, sit in my pants for 12hrs a day sessions. Years since I've both wanted to and been able to do this.
Does anyone know the best value way to get premium (PC)? At Cd keys it's £63 or looks like gamepass + £35. Any other options worth considering?

You can grab the Premium Upgrade cheapish from the Microsoft store in Iceland, doesn't require a VPN or foreign card or anything, can just use your normal card and address. Gets you the upgrade on PC as well. Worked out at just under £17 (with the Game Pass discount) when I did it, but the exchange rate changes daily so it varies. Using a fee free card will help as well obviously. Was posted on HotUKDeals a while back: www.hotukdeals.com/share-deal-from-app/4149225

I resisted the CDkeys option because I wasn't 100% certain that they would actually send the key on the early launch day, or hold off until the proper launch five days later. Probably just my paranoia at work.

I watched them this morning. They are fine I guess. Not really clear on the relevance.

What time do games usually unlock on Xbox?
Is this going to be available all day on the 6th or just from the evening?

At 22 fps and with huge parts missing, yes. 🤞 come on Bethesda, for once, don’t fuck this up…

I thought the preload for this was 9th August but having checked my directory it's 10MB despite gamepass saying it's 'installed'. Is that right? Not pre-ordered a PC game in a long long time.

Not sure if that was a rumour or speculation from the retailers. Mine on Xbox still says 350mb as a placeholder. I'd be surprised if it gets loaded up more than a week before early access.

Xbox store preloads have always been a bit rubbish on PC so I wouldn't sweat it too much. It'll auto update soon after the proper preload is available. Probably a couple of days beforehand.
It's only installing a little stub on Xbox too fwiw, so those dates seem to be nonsense.

Yeah it was a rumour after someone spotted an Amazon listing.

Colonization of Mars in 2050? Sure, dudes. Reminds me of Mission to mars movie. One of the classics. Had Mars landing in 2020... If we send a person to mars by 2050 it will be a success.

That little bit of lore and world building is more exciting to me than any of the gameplay trailers. I'm a sucker for a good bit of faux history and pretty happy with clichéd space opera tropes. By all means do mass effect again but better. I love a bit of space politics almost as much as I love a creepy alien artefact. The narrative space between learning of a mysterious alien artefact but before discovering it's just a weapon that can destroy planets/a warp gate (it's always one of the two) is my hard sci-fi happy place. What if the artefact is something genuinely new? It won't be, it'll be one of those two. But what if it is? What then?

Colonization of Mars in 2050? Sure, dudes. That and humans developing something that can transport people at almost the speed of light in the next 100 years to visit Alpha Centauri, also seems strangely prompt. Perhaps I'm reading to deep into a made up back story to a videogame, if it's only the back-story that makes me suspend belief and not legendary levels of Bethesda jank, I'll be happy!

Yeah, sure, but it would have been easy to extend it a bit further out. I guess the problem they have is that they can't really extend it too far out either, though, because most tech is basically just barely upgraded current earth tech.
It's the problem all sci-fi games have, that a realistically adanced future will not be very interesting to play in, because almost everything will be automatically controlled and won't require any player input.
Also the mysterious alien artifact will be a machine to decipher why kids love the taste of cinnamon toast crunch.
