Well at least you don't have to be embarrassed about your PC. Never be embarrassed about who you are. Unless you are Elon Musk.

To be fair, that guy has a good point about the rocks. Very impressive in their variety.

They rotate wildly before rocketing into the air? Hopefully fixed by the day one patch.

AMD are apparently going to bundle free copies of Starfield with the Ryzen 7000 series CPUs.

On series X, Fallout 76 recently upgraded to 60. It had the FPS Boost thing enabled for years, but that is now disabled, it's 60 in game. It can also handle 24 players at once, with all their personalised gear. Obv not as sophisticated as Starfield will be.
For me, its a no-going-back thing, 30fps games just aren't getting bought, however much I want to play them, as with Starfield. I'm mainly playing Age Of Wonders 4 at the moment, an essentially turn-based 4X strategy game (and a truly brilliant one) but I find even that unplayable at 30 now. 'Resolution' does indeed give higher detail, but everything looks thin and papery and flickery, whereas in 'Performance' the whole map looks a beautifully solid little world, like the prettiest table-top RPG ever devised (and costs £10,000 just for the starter set).
Confident Starfield gets 60 eventually, happy to wait, so many games.

I mean, the site seems to contain nothing but gutter journalism, but I don't know where to start with that article. "[the petition] has so far amassed 144 signatures out of an initial goal of 200" So if 200 people in the entire world demand it, Bethesda will rewrite the entire game engine at the 11 hour? "Starfield is a great game and it's sad to see the lost opportunity to add 60 frames" The game isn't even out yet. "The issue is that Starfield is such a massive game that running at 30fps actually makes for a better experience - not a worse one, contrary to popular belief" Well, the leading analysis suggests it's a CPU-limited game, so not something you can easily optimise by tweaking a few graphics settings to reduce GPU load... But the game isn't even out yet. We'll just have to see. It may become fairly apparent why the game runs at 30fps when people get their hands on it, and recognise the game's scope.

Starfield isn't running at 60fps consistently in this generation, it's heavily implied it's CPU limited so no manner of reducing settings or resolution is going to make a difference. I think this long cross gen period has put people into a false sense of security there are definitely going to be some 60fps games and some 30fps games per the developer's vision.

Indeed, but many other games improve performance post-release, maybe they will find efficiencies down the line. Or a next gen will be along eventually.

If it's a consistent, locked and smooth 30 that is surely infinitely better than and something that fluctuates heavily between 40-60?
I know what you mean though because on the flip side I'll be super pissy if it's locked at 60 on pc. FO4 did it and it was annoying

But I said consistent locked 30, not a stuttery 30

But I said consistent locked 30, not a stuttery 30 I think he's equating 30fps as being 'stuttery'.
And a fluctuating frame rate is terrible, especially in any game that requires fast inputs. Something like Diablo 4 would be fucking dreadful with a fluctuating frame rate.

Stutter at a fixed rate is still stutter as far as I'm concerned.

Bad framepacing is stuttery. 30fps isn’t inherently stuttery. If a game has microstutter, fluctuating framerate is going to feel worse, not better, because it’s stuttering AND inconsistent.

Spookys got it and that's what I meant but failed to say. If the pacing between those 30 frames per second is solid and consistent then it will feel ok. If not then it will feel awful but we don't know what it feels like until playing it.
Bethesda though are fuckers for tieing gamespeed with FPS so it could feel like playing in treacle which would kill it dead I'm afraid

It doesn't really matter which FPS target Bethesda is aiming at, there will be stutter no matter how low they go.

Interesting they don't specify what FPS you're getting.

Interesting they don't specify what FPS you're getting. 60 is the ceiling .. you know it. I know it. Let's not all be surprised together.

I'm a bit thick but I prefer the way Bethesda games tell you exactly where to go. The trend with big games like Elden Ring and Zelda that leave you to join the dots on your own, I find overwhelming.

I'll be amazed if they've fixed the engine so everything doesn't break if you go over 60. But I know it's still the Gamebryo engine under all that shiny stuff.

When I get the first 'Ooh what's that...?' that's where I'm going. I'm off to the outerreaches as far as my dilithium crystals will take me

hehe. I'm in awe of people who can do that. I watched a full playthrough of Elden Ring on my ipad.
