Pretty sure I remember finding the odd mission/base whilst exploring on the Mako but could be wrong. Also felt like it tied into the grand scope of the game.

I, uh… I actually really liked driving around in the Mako. But then I also preferred launch NMS to what it’s evolved into so who cares what I think.

exploring unpopulated planets on the mako and finding secret bases, crash sites, resources etc are one of many reasons first ME was the best.

As far as I know, those are all tied to missions you can pick up at the Citadel and they're all basically kill some people in a room full of crates

Name a bigger game coming out in the next 12 months.
I haven’t even got an Xbox but after 7 years in the making, this is single-handedly the biggest game on the horizon.
Another God of War? Hmm.

Normally, I agree with you but as noted recently, I hated it. The controls were appalling, the planets were all exactly the same with slight colour variations and silly hills.

The Mako exploration was cool in theory, roaming around freely in relatively large open areas and being able to dismount and do ground combat and enter buildings wasn't something I'd seen in an RPG before at least. But the driving mechanics were arse, almost all the locations were near identical, there wasn't much to find and most of the things you did find were more or less identical cut and paste assets. It got old pretty fast.

The Mako and planets were much improved in the legendary edition of ME. Almost enjoyable!!!
I'm not sure there is that much debate reading the further information coming out. There are loads of planets that can visited for basic exploring. There are a smaller number of more detailed and curated planets with large cities.

The endless possibilities of space, and yet the first thing they show us is first person shooting at human space pirates with 2004‘s mechanics. Hohum. This.
I wasv on board until I saw the fucking FPS bollox. Dull AF

But the driving mechanics were arse, almost all the locations were near identical, there wasn't much to find and most of the things you did find were more or less identical cut and paste assets. It got old pretty fast. Yup. If the controls and physics had been better they'd at least have been a bit of a fun timewaster. ---- If I have a jetpack or something similar, then I can at least enjoy exploring the planets. But I don't think Bethesda have done any driveable vehicles yet, right? Though I guess they had horses. NMS probably wasn't for me, but I found a lot of the exploration in that to be rather dull, even with the varied planets. The problem was that while each *planet* was different, they were mainly 'star wars biome planets' in that within each planet they were basically all the same. So walking 5km from your landing point would mainly just show you all the same stuff you saw near your landing point. At least you had a jetpack to make traversal a little less dull. TBH, I think they should take a look at a game like Fortnite for how it manages to make exploration and traversal fun. The overall area of the island isn't super huge, but it's split into distinct biomes that you can move between, with lots of landmarks. So you can move from the desert into the forest and then into the town etc.. Plus there's a bunch of fun ways to move through it: sprints, slides, mantling, plants that will act as jump pads, gliders, jetpacks, cars, boats, swimming, etc.. so that even though 90% of your time is spend running across the same world, if feels fun rather than dull. I doubt they'll have all that, but slides, things that will propel you into the air, gliders, etc.. would make exploration more fun. They seem to be going for a 'realistic' approach, which might make it hard to have a bunch of different biomes all within walking distance, but it'd definitely make for a much more fun experience.

Large amount of assumptions going on here. Based on 20 years of Bethesda experience. A leopard doesn’t change its game engine, QA, design priorities etc.

Yeah, I gave them a chance for Fallout 4, because New Vegas had come out earlier and I thought maybe they could have incorporated some interesting faction stuff or quest design into the new game. But aside from a couple of cool things (Nick Valentine, Silver Shroud), it was largely the same experience.
I guess it would have been fine if you cared about the base building. I didn't!

Why are some of you concerned about FPS elements when you haven’t even played it? Genuinely confused.
It’s a ginormous game. You can’t compare it to COD, or Destiny.
They have tons more stuff to think about developing when it comes to a game like this.
You want perfect graphics? Not going to happen. You want perfect gunplay? Not going to happen. You want perfect environment and life? Not going to happen.
You want a really good, massive Bethesda game? Yep. This looks that and far, far more.

Watched the presentation from the other day on YouTube, and it just reminded me of all the other times Todd Howard has talked (what turned out to be) absolute bollocks in front of a mildly impressive edited video of their upcoming game. I simply don't believe a word that guy says any more.
100% sure this will be a janky, buggy mess like all their other games, and they'll rely on the modding community to sort it out just like always.
I'm so over Bethesda's bullshit.

No chance for BotW. MW2, not even going to answer that one. As for this being a Bethesda game, of course they’ll use similar gameplay. What are you expecting? The point I make about them having to do a lot of building is that this is a huge RPG with multiple aspects to develop. You can’t compare it to very much. You can’t expect them to build out a brilliant gunplay system along with every other single thing they have to do (far more than any linear game).

I do hope they just haven’t revealed their V.A.T.S like system yet but I’m not optimistic.
I don’t mind the gunplay in Fallout 4 but it really helps to have a better system to fall back on.

And it's a bit shit, but this is the Starfield thread and it will have plenty of its own issues without dragging Nintendo in here.
