Currently there's no drivers for Windows. I thought that seemed a bit odd with mostly bespoke components. Hopefully that will be sorted by the time I get my WE model. Probably going to stick with Winqp though not 11

I think I’m going to put the windows install on a 512GB sd card, with the size of some games it’s probably a bad idea to start partitioning up that internal drive.

My big concern at the moment are the reports on fan noise being very intrusive. Noisy devices drive me crazy and I would want to be able to play in bed without worrying about disturbing my wife (she’s assured me not to worry and that it won’t bother her but I know I’d worry about it which would spoil my enjoyment - yes I clearly have issues)
Guess I’ll wait to hear more real user reports about how noisy it is

Fan noise is connected to heat, which is connected to TDP and I do see a lot of videos where the thing's running at full-bore 15W which will make the fan spin up the fastest. I suspect we'll see how much difference backing off from 15W to 11-12W should make soon enough. In the Giant Bomb stream they also made it sound like one of the updates had reduced the aggressiveness of the fan curve too (specifically that it was kicking up a lot less on the desktop and was less aggressive in lower performance games). I can see there being a lot of tweakable stuff there if you're willing to back off a bit on detail/resolution.

I’m not sure if it has that Trusted Platform Module that is required for Win 11. It's a Zen2 chip. IIRC all Zen2 designs have it built in to the CPU.

Could've sworn mine was Q2 previously, but it's changed to "After Q2" now

You sure you're logged into Steam? The default page says After Q2 for all orders I think.
I'm still bitter I was 6 mins late for the order window because my meeting overran -_-

Caved and put in an order. That was after reading an interview with Gabe Newell, where he indicated future iterations and I was thinking that it would be sensible to wait for a second version. Screw sensible!
Put myself down for the super-duper version, mostly because of the anti-glare screen. The premium case is nice to have too (not that I know the difference between the premium and the regular). The extra space is likely going to be pretty valuable too, although less of an issue with the ease you seem to be able to replace it.
No idea when I'm likely to actually receive it, other than the vague "after q2". Birthday is in early August, so will be nice if it is around then, but probably best not to get hopes up.

I just got hit by about twenty minutes of problems when I tried 'on time' to pre-order. Probably work out for the best with software issues and lack of Windows drivers etc. I was a Q1 shifted to Q2.

I think it’ll still be firmly in “tinker” territory by the end of Q2, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’m definitely looking forward to messing around with it as a Linux device nearly as much as a game machine.

I thought it was already common knowledge that Nintendo's rooftop parties were bullshit?

Reading the article it seems like once you take out the extraneous stuff it seems like a fairly accurate description what will happen in a lot of groups of friends when the first one gets the machine. Everyone will have a look and try one or two things, then it goes back in the bag and stays there.

Can't imagine whipping out a Deck, Switch or gaming laptop in a pub. Public forms of transport sure, but not sure why you would take any of those into a pub. Not that I can't see the appeal of a nice pint while playing some Elden Ring, but that would be outweighed by fear of ridicule.
Then again, myself and a friend did play the card game Doomtown Reloaded in a pub a couple of times. I was surprised to find each time a couple of people came over and were genuinely interested in what we were playing and admired the art work on the cards.

That's shitty of Bungie. Such a hardline stance about it too. Not that the game isn't natively compatible, just that they nix it and ban your account.
Puts me off Bungie, not the Steam Deck, tbh.

To be fair, any working around an anti-cheat system gets bans. Valve aren't their competitor in the way they are Epic's ('no Fortnite on deck'), they're probably not expecting it to be a success and don't think it's worth the effort enabling BattlEye support for it (which AFAICT is Destiny's anti-cheat system of choice ATM). They may reconsider if the numbers are there.

I know it’s silly, but Valve has released the CAD files, so I 3D printed one. Mainly because I wanted to see the size and feel the button layout. I can totally see myself using those back buttons, lots of games have you press the A button to pick stuff up which means letting go of the right stick, I think I’ll map that to one of those. Besides that, feels very plasticky.

How does it fit in the hand? The deck, not a banana.

It has xbox like bulgy grips, thumbs rest naturally on the sticks, middle and ring finger on those tabs on the back. Shoulder buttons might be a bit hard to reach for me, but triggers are like the xbox pad as well. I don't think they could have made it much smaller without compromising on comfort.
