The official Dock just got released, also no more reservations needed for the deck itself.

Oof, we're getting fucked on the price. £80.

It’s actually not a bad deal considering the current exchange rate with the dollar and taxes and stuff. It’s just a higher price than expected for everyone.

Comes with the same charger that's packed with the deck, I think ifixit have them for about £30, jsaux dock is £50 without a charger.

I'm pretty sure I got the jsaux dock for $42 with their 1st order coupon.
All that said, it's pretty useless for playing games on TV, the deck is not fit for 1080p gaming and even I with my poor eyesight would rather not take 720p any more.

Yeah, I would use it more for docked computing on desktop. It's a pretty competent machine for that, unsurprisingly since it's basically an ultrabook in handheld form. Some long pauses in KDE when it's working stuff out but once it's going it's fine.

It's not for me. Would have been useful for charging if it was like the switch dock, but don't really see the point if you have to plug in the usb-c cable manually.

I've seen people mention this, but it's a non-issue for me. Put it down, plug in the cable. It takes an extra second tops. And there's no fishing for the cable as it's pre-bent for you just waiting to be grabbed.
It's not a very elegant solution, that's for sure. Ideally, the deck would have a 2nd port on the bottom (or contacts, at least), maybe v2 will.
The fact it's not very useful unless you want to use the Deck as a desktop is a bigger problem imo.

I have the JSAux dock and it's useful for setting up emulators or config in desktop mode, but I would never want to use it for playing games. I guess maybe it could be useful for multiplayer 2D games with my kids at some point.

I guess the advantage is you could plug the dock into other stuff like a macbook.

It'd certainly work, but be rather awkward with the 90-degree plug and short cable.

I picked up a usb hub just the other week. I can't imagine using it to actually play games, but I consider it fairly essential for navigating desktop mode. The pokey screen and gamepad controls are really not suited for the desktop environment, so if you want to get emulators set up or get other stores working than you will need something like this. If you aren't leaving the game mode though, it is probably pointless.
I'm using mine also with my work laptop, so think I can justify the ~£50 I spent on it. Which is a problem with the official one; I don't think you could really use it with anything else besides the Deck. You could in theory, I assume, but the way that USB-c cable has been designed it is clearly really only for something that is sitting in the dock and likely wouldn't be good for it angling it into another device.

I'm sticking to my Anker dongle, have it set so if I switch 1 USB from my pc to the dongle my keyboard and mouse switch over. Been keeping my pc off and doing any Web browsing on the deck, also found my downloaded program on the Discover store.

I plug it into my USB-C monitor and it 'just works' with the keyboard and mouse I have plugged into that. If you're in the market for a monitor upgrade, definitely consider one that's got USB-C.

I had a ballache getting it working well on my TV with either of the docks I already own that I tried. Locked res to 1080/60 but anything I played felt like it was running at 30.
The same docks worked fine on my monitor at 1440p/120 and the same games I tested ran perfectly on that. Didn't really want to splash out more money on another dock only to find it had the same issues on my TV. Like others have said it's really not suited for FHD performance, but would do for stuff like Vampire Survivors on the couch which was my failed plan.

I’ve not had much luck with the screen via USB-C. The mouse and keyword connected to it work fine but it doesn’t see it as a display for some reason on any monitor I’ve tried it with. Shame because it would make switching between my work laptop and SteamDeck so easy For the TV I use an Anker hub that I also use with my MacBook when watching Sky sports. Have played Star Wars Squadrons and a few other games at 1080p. The updates in September made that a lot more seamless although still not it’s strong suit.

You might need to drop to desktop mode and actually enable the second monitor and set it as primary. I had to do that a few times. Absolute fucking nightmare trying to do it with just the touch screen!

Despite having next to no time to play anything I got one of these now and I’ve already played more since it arrived yesterday at 6pm than the previous month.
Note to decide between Xbox game pass and the several hundred games I have on steam. So far steam is winning, half life 2 first for the first time since it came out so I don’t remember much of it.
Shame it doesn’t download in sleep mode.

I have still spent most of my limited Deck time fiddling and trying to get things working. Both emulation and games, having generally prioritised GOG in the past has made things more awkward. I still think I will use it a lot more when I can actually safely dualboot to windows on the SSD. My wife has gamed a lot more on it, even i it has only been Dorfromantik.

Yeah, my time while I had one felt like 80% fiddling and 20% actually playing stuff. Had an absolute ballache getting Primehack controls working properly, the issues I mentioned with the docks on my TV above, trying to get Destiny 2 running well under Windows, filling a 512GB SD card with stuff to play with... Just couldn't be arsed actually playing anything for any length of time after that.

I've played more 360 era games on it that were in my backlog than anything else, also quick stuff like Fall Guys, Puyo Puyo Tetris and a list of Survivors games.
Got Simpson Hit n Run and Outrun 2006 pc versions installed lately.

Heh, funny timing, I've just spent too much time trying to get Rogue Squadron 2 to run well. I think it's a futile task.

Factor 5 stuff is often the most challenging to run emulated, I seem to recall similar things with their N64 output... I am most likely to play PS2/PSP/SNES/Saturn emulated with a possibility of checking out Xbox/360.

I just found switching to exclusive shaders instead of hybrid shaders helped a hell of a lot, fwiw. Also powertools plugin to reduce the number of threads used to 3. The hoth level plays almost normally now. Huge difference.

Just picked up a 512gb sd card on amazon for £37, early prime day deals have a few good brand ones.
Been trying Windows on a 128gb sd and could do with more room for native game pass games.

What is the dual boot experience like now? I've been thinking about making a Windows SD card for a few games...
