Did you actually watch the interview where she told him she was fucking other guys? He didn't seem to be ok with it.

Yeah, Jada looking distinctly unimpressed. Was a slap more than a punch tbf. Oh wow. I had only seen the full speed version and that looked as if there wasn't any actual contact. I had assumed it was staged, as it appeared to be mimed, but quite clear from that. Don't think Rock should be making jokes about someone else's condition, but that is definitely not a deserved reaction. And then he gets a standing ovation for some weak apology that is more about begging to be invited back again. He was pretty good in King Richard though.

I imagine Rebel Wilson is feeling like she dodged a bullet this morning. Smith didn't attend the Baftas, based on this evidence her joke about his wife's cheating would have got her dropkicked live on air.
What an absolute fanny (Smith that is), pretty inexcusable behaviour really, talk about ruining your big night.

People seem fairly split on this. I'm definitely in the "if you're gonna lamp someone, just do it properly" camp.
But yeah, it's pretty shitty from Chris Rock and fair play to Will for standing up. Chris has come across as that snivelling weasel at school who makes jokes then hides behind the teacher. He 100% deserved it.
Just, you know, do it properly or not at all.

"I got in one little fight about my wife's lost hair" is the best thing I've seen so far.

Yeah Having a wife who loves getting pounded by other dudes is going to probably going to put you on edge. Haven't they spoken about this at length previously? That they've been separated and seen other people? It's not that she's just wandering around Hollywood fucking everyone she can behind his back. There's a weird narrative around this that Will is a cuck in their relationship. Is this just a general societal "dude sleeps around = legend, woman sleeps around = slut" type thing? They moved some young troubled rapper into their house and she told smith she wanted an open relationship, then started sleeping with the young rapper and flaunting it in the media. Smith just went along with it. It’s also well publicised that Tupac was the love of her life and smith was the 2nd choice. I’m sure he’s no angel, but he sure comes across as a cuck. Jada comes across as the dominant person in the relationship.

Will's been on the decline since Uncle Phil died.
I feel kind of sorry for both of them. It can't feel good to be physically and verbally assaulted live on TV in front of millions. Though I think he dealt with it about as well as you can.
And Smith is clearly going through some shit to react like that. The amount of guilt, shame, embarrassment, etc. has got to feel fucking awful.

It is a very very strange thing to do. Like, even in my most drunken fucked up extreme moments of doing stupid things, there’s still a pretty persuasive voice in my head that stops me doings utterly irreversibly stupid things. Punching someone on stage at the Oscars feels like one of those things that you just wouldn’t do even if you ‘lost it’. I’m finding it hard to believe it’s not staged.

geefeYou're the first person I've seen taking Will's side in this so far. Yeah it was an unnecessary joke (especially if he knew about the alopecia), but that's no way to react. He's clearly got a few screws loose.

I've thankfully not made any bad decisions anywhere near this level, but I can totally understand how something like that could happen. It wouldn't surprise me if he went up there without a plan as to what he was doing, perhaps even thinking he could do a spontaneous 'bit' of joviality, but then the adrenaline kicked in and all the insecurities and resentment and so on and before he knows it he's slapping a comedian in the face under the weight of expectation he's created. You've put yourself in an awkward position, so you have to do something... That kind of thinking.

But really, if Chris had made a joke about someone losing a limb, would we have expected any different? It's not on and people seem to be able to get away with that shit purely because they're hosting or whatever. As I say - if you're gonna do it, just commit. Most punches/ fights last a few seconds. Either throw the punch properly or tell him, face to face, that's not cool and to apologise.

It looked like he found himself on stage, realised he had to do something and chose the least worst option of a pimp slap.
It is kind of sad, though. I literally only just heard coda won best picture but I woke up with three ‘Smith slaps rock’ alerts on my phone.

But why stage it, if it's irreversibly stupid and not obviously staged? It looked like stage combat. It’s literally the first thing I thought when I saw it before all the context around it.

Alopecia is quite disheartening especially for women. You can see Pinkett wasn't too impressed with the joke as it is a very personal disease. The slapping thing was just stupid though. You can't go around hitting folk just because of a bad taste joke. Smith was happy enough to laugh at all the other put downs Rock was doing but there are clearly issues with Smith to react that way.
The thing is, if you were at a comedy night in the front row, you are always going to be an easy target for the comedian.
