On the face of it, I hate Amazon, but love it at the same time.
But every product I search for on there is so annoying. I have to check prices, reviews etc for fake products. IIRC they used to have one product page listing what they sold a product for and then a list of sellers for that product.
Now we have the same product, with different listings and different prices for each. You have to sift through the reviews to check if you are getting a genuine product. I thought this shit was resigned to ebay?

Amazon has been like this for about 5 years or something for me, that said their returns policy is by far the best there is. Much as it annoys me to line Bozo's pockets further I don't mind paying a bit extra sometimes for easy returns. I've also had good success getting refunds outside the statutory 12 month warranty period.

I've found it far easier to sort out the fake shit on ebay than the fake shit on amazon.

It was very convenient. It's still quick but becoming increasingly harder to find a decent seller on. And every transaction you make subsidises a space twat

It’s ok if you are looking a specific product from a specific brand but anything even slightly more vague and it’s page after page of the same shit thing from Ali Baba being resold on Amazon by 50 different idiots.

Browsing is fucking shite as well. Not like going in to a proper bookshop and just idly wandering for something interesting, as you just end up with 100 pages of total shite.

I was looking for a replacement portafilter for my espresso machine last week and literally the first two pages are people selling the same one they sell on Ali Express for like four quid for anything between £10 and £40. It’s basically Poundstretcher with next day delivery

It's astonishing how bad it is to find legitimately what you want on Amazon now, it's a cesspool of resellers, fakes, and Chinese soundalike products.
We have reaped the whirlwind, it's what the endgame of destroying everything else is, whilst Bezos fucks off in his dick ship.

If you always buy direct from Amazon then you're always fine. I never buy from sellers, even if they are cheaper.

What do you think are the chances of there being no direct from Amazon link on the first two pages?

What do you think are the chances of there being no direct from Amazon link on the first two pages? Depends on what you want I'd imagine. I order boring stuff, games, books etc so never had problems buying direct.

I'm massively torn on this, especially as my job has been running Amazon advertising (search and display) for various brands over the past six years (not working for Amazon directly). Amazon is fucking useful, and super easy to use, but they are allowing the place to become more of a wild West by the day.
I try not to use it myself for things I can get locally in our town from independent stores (especially books, even though they're more expensive) but it's so convenient for so many things!

There's been a noticeable deterioration in the last 12-24 months. Between, sponsored, recommended and fakes you know have to double check every purchase. The price variations are a mess.
I bought a monitor last week from their warehouse/returns shop. At one point it was displaying £150 ended up getting it for £67 through the right link/page.

We use them for next day delivery of little name brand stuff we can't easily get walking into town and some bulk buy grocery stuff on subscribe and save.
I wouldn't use them for anything much expensive though. As others have said, can't be arsed rooting through the knock offs and cheap, Chinese crap.

I still use them for a few things. As much as I like to shop local, if my record shop is charging 30 quid for something and it’s 20 on Amazon, it’s hard to square that

We have brought everything from lawn mowers, bbqs, garden décor to groceries with little issues. Occasionally a Lego may not turn up but can't overly complain. When you have 3 birthdays in the space of a week amazon is really no fuss useful.
We did try the whole finding and ordering via the original seller or someplace similar that is local but then you get a torrent of phone calls and hand holding just to get things delivered which is all unnecessary. Just simply easier with a couple of clicks and then it turns up.
And having access to that Chinese market is useful when your lad wants some obscure mega Pokémon plush or something. Then you have Prime which I'm certain offers more than I use it for they have really done a good job of becoming so ingrained in our lives despite how much we'd all rather not support them.

I used to thick Amazon was so slick business wise. Now I think they're just ruthless asshats.
A blight on the world.

Ball park-ish but they charge for delivery on top and take up to a week. If I’m shopping online anyway and I can get it tomorrow… But, yeah, I do buy direct from the labels for a lot of stuff. Ninja Tune and hospital records have a great online operation. Smaller than that and it’s just the tea girl hand addressing each envelope (which is fine. It’s my delayed gratification problem)

I've mostly switched back to local shops so I'm generally good for records, books and so on. There's not really many video games or electronics shops about anymore though. So random USB cables and switch games still often end up from Amazon irritatingly.

I try not to buy from them, but a lot of the time the price on other stores is so much higher than the amazon one. That said, it is getting harder and harder to filter out the crap. I do basically only buy direct from amazon 95% of the time these days, as anything else is a gamble. Those (mostly) identical products aren't usually fakes, their just all dropshippers who are sourcing from the same ali-powered sources. The one major advantage Amazon has over here is that I can shop and do 99% of the customer service in English. That and the fact that a lot of western stuff is basically *only* available through them. Tip to feel less guilty: use the smile.amazon.co.uk url instead of the main one and you can at least give a small percentage to a charity of your choice with every purchase. Change your bookmarks, and you can set it up to automatically redirect you if you forget and go to the www.ama.... url by mistake

I've found browsing Amazon to be a complete ballache in recent times. It seems to be really hit and miss as to whether or not a given item will appear in the search results, with ever-so-slight changes to the keywords and department filters resulting in wildly different outcomes.
I've also noticed that their approach to packaging is pretty weird these days - sending a single, jewel-cased CD in a cardboard box that could've comfortably housed a pair of boots, and suchlike.
