If you have it on hand, that’d be helpful. You've just reminded me that I'm half way through eternal darkness on the gamecube. I don't have my game cube anymore. No fucking idea how or why I got rid if it, especially as I kept the controller and memory cards? Weird. Anyway, I have to load them up via the wii now, as it has that very handy flip up lid to handle gc peripherals. Probably the most use I get out of my wii!

The Wii is also good for getting component video quality for Gamecube games, whereas the actual Gamecube is a bit of an expensive minefield when it comes to video quality

Yes, that's true as well. I do miss my GC, but at least everything I want to play I can play on the wii though. It's well handy.

Anyone here in on the Evercade scene? I recently got into collecting Vinyl records which somehow expanded to finding a cheap way to collect video games. I sold my original evercade as I didn't use it much but my renewed interest in physical media prompted me to buy the new EXP. Battery life aside (only about 3 hours) I absolutely love it and I suddenly find myself playing a lot. If anyone here has recommendations for specific games to check out I'd love to get a discussion going.

Finally got a Gameboy coming tomorrow after looking at them for ages. It's in decent nick but going to retrobrite it, new screen and buttons. Don't really have any urge to play it with the games being on Switch, but I fucking adore the look of the thing. From the very first time I saw it rotating in a glass cabinet in Toys R Us 30 odd years ago.

Maybe they will release it later? It was one of the best games on the system.

I'll give it a go on the Gameboy Advance, put an IPS screen in and got a flash cart so it's on there somewhere.

I bought a MiSTer a few weeks ago. It's pretty sweet. I've mostly been playing Amiga on it.

Nah, it's very easy. It's basically clip it together like Lego (I got the 128mb ram and usb board additionally)and then software wise it literally is just downloading from the internet, transfer and then run an update script. You then just put your game roms in the relevant folders and away you go.

Yeah for me FPGA stuff could represent the tipping point where you don't really need the real hardware any more even if you're a stickler for response times and accuracy. Especially when combined with an OLED and some CRT effects

Especially when combined with an OLED and some CRT effects Yeah I see it as the end game for myself. I guess it depends on how recent you want to emulate. I can go upto PS1 with mine. I just use my laptop if I want to emulate anything later than that.

Another cart around in boxes or recycle dilemna for me, Edge magazines, loads of them...they'll just be stuck in boxes and ignored. Ditch? Seem to be largely worthless.

I've got a load of early Edge, including IIRC the first 20. Also got old Amiga Power, The One and some others in boxes in the loft. They had been in my parents garage and I thought I would keep them, but other than a nostalgic afternoon looking through them they've just been in storage. If you have the space I'd keep them, but I don't think they are worth much at all really.

There’s a healthy (well, ageing!) community of retro gaming fans who enjoy reading through digitised copies of old tech and gaming magazines.
Might be worth seeing if the issues you own are already recorded and, if not, contribute?

I think the thought process on the wallpaper went something along the lines of "What is the most expensive wallpaper I can find, because that is the one I will love the most and want to buy".
And it came true

Aww man love those Retro Gamers. I like thumbing through, finding a cool game I missed, then playing 10 seconds of it on an emulator.

We are moving house, and they've been in boxes since the last time we moved....in 2002....I had thought any children I might have might be interested...but learned early on that they don't really give a shit about our old stuff. You can imagine if your parent's had been able to make you watch Muffin the Mule, it's like that.
I can take them to the new gaff, but....

I dunno….I got Virtua Cop 1 and 2, Time Crisis and House of the dead 1 and 2 working on my cabinet with dual guns with recoil - no one into video games can resist that level of fun.

Which guns did you end up going with for your cab? I still have the trusty AimTraks which do the job, but I’m also waiting to hear what’s happening with the next gen Sindens and if they fix the issues I have with them.

Yeah double Aimtrak. Had to do some messing about to get two player working well on those games that supported dual shooter but some clever chap built demulshooter and I got that working pretty well.
Seriously loving just messing about getting more up and running. On top of Mame now I have zsnes, model2, model3, Naomi and Atomiswave up and running on the cabinet. I have learned a lot too which is great.

As always I have great envy of anyone that can make room for a cab in their home. Fuck you, London flat.

Love the cab Youthist! I made a half size one (no bottom), but it's really shit. My skills lie more in the downloading bits of software side of things than the building stuff side I've got most of the parts for a virtual pin table except for the actual cab, will get that project going again when we move (there's a large room in the basement of the new place that's earmarked for a gamesroom/teen hangout/underage drinking hovel. It used to have a full size snooker table so is massive. I should have finished it during lockdown, but I got obsessed with going on very long walks and making sausages instead.
