I've always found it interesting to check out other people's desktop. Just try to hide stuff that could be used for social engineering, if you decide to share yours.

Empty, except for a Macintosh HD icon at the top right and a dozen icons in the dock at the bottom

Tomo Does...does that wrap all around your head? Empty, except for a Macintosh HD icon at the top right and a dozen icons in the dock at the bottom Never understood this. My desktop above is actually the cleaned up version, it looked way messier before I made the screenshot. My father forced me to always empty my desk when I was still living at his house. But what is an empty desk(top) good for?

My desktop above is actually the cleaned up version, it looked way messier before I made the screenshot. What is an empty desk(top) good for? The cat or the desktop? The former, sometimes, yes. I'm with elstoof - my desktop above has a few too many extraneous icons for my liking. zag - yours is slightly triggering me, haha, but see farrrrr worse on a daily basis at work. Tbf, I think shortcuts on Windows desktops make sense. But I also don't have anything on my Mac desktop, not even the Mac HD icon. I just use spotlight or fire open Finder to access everything.

I like to have an overview of all the important stuff. I fear that if I would only use the finder to launch stuff, I would forget about something.
@spookyxelectric All 3 NOLFs, nice!

Pffft. Clear desktop with most frequently used stuff pinned to task bar and anything else pinned to start.

I don’t think I’ve used desktop icons for several years. If I want to launch something I’ll just use keyboard shortcuts and search.

My macOS desktop has zero icons, unless an external drive is loaded, like the Time Machine drive, one of the Garmins or a pen drive.
My wallpaper is an image of a document; black ink on white paper, which is my ever-evolving copywriting crib sheet.

Oh, all right, then. I don't really want to, but there's no way I won't take this chance to plug LINUX!!!!1!!one I just decommissioned my MBP yesterday and now I'm using this pretty terrible Asus with the worst resolution known to Man (1080p at 15"). I haven't even looked around at a better wallpaper yet, it's just one of the stock ones.
Oh, and re desktop icons. This desktop doesn't allow them without an extension and I'm fine with that. I tend to clutter up my screen with temp docs I don't know what to do with and this forces me to look for a place for them.

You should have seen it before I was making the screenshot. There were temp files in the middle almost touching the left, and forming an amorphic mass with lots of gaps up to the right edge.
This is the cleanest my desktop has looked in years.

I don’t actually use the Macintosh HD icon, it’s just there for sentimentality. Everything I need is in the dock, finder is still column view for me. I rarely use spotlight. The desktop is my holding pen, anything downloaded or exported goes there for me to organise away

Hah, I like the Macintosh HD icon very much. Reminds me of a time when OSX was so new and fresh and exciting and dragging a CD to the trash would eject it.

The main thing that I wish I had on MacOS was the directory path in the Finder window, so I can just copy-paste it wherever I like. So annoying having to navigate multiple folders when you already have the path in another program.

cmd-shift-G? Still, annoying, I'll give you that.
Edit: and columns is the _only_ view. Funny how that never works anywhere else.

It's KDE using 5 virtual desktops (could comfortably make it two, tbh) across two screens with a Flickr photo of the day background.
No icons on the desktop, a few quick launchers. Icon heavy desktops give me conniptions.

Mine is a fucking disgrace. Then show it, you coward! zagibu that's almost worse than someone with 57 browser tabs open 57? That's nothing. I need more than 57 doubleclicks on the scroll tab left or right button to scroll them all through.
