Nationwide just gave us £100, guilt money for their huge profits. I also got that. Pleasant surprise. The bit in the email that asked if I wanted to opt out for any reason and not receive it made me chuckle.

Sat in the sun in a beer garden with my daughter after a nice walk catching pokemon she's now obsessed with.
Everything tastes better in the sun.

If you knew me, you'd know that laziness is almost my defining feature. If there's a cheat's way of doing things, I'll take it.

Halloumi, peri-peri kebabs and sausages perfectly cooked. I don't need anything more complicated, all about quick and easy. This is the way.

There was a guy who used to use Newcastle City Library who was obsessed with researching the history of football in the region to the point where his personal archive is basically the most complete history there is for anything old or obscure. He died of covid but recently his family donated his collections to the library (now available to access upon request as a specialist resource) and the library has hung a Newcastle shirt above his old seat in tribute to him. www.instagram.com/reel/Csi2z9aodE7/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ=

Parents night up at the high school for the boy last night. Nearing the end of 1st year and this was the first time we've been able to meet his teachers, so just made the appointment to see them all, miving from one to the next throughout an hour and a half or so.
Bloody hell, the wife was nearly in tears. They couldn't have been nicer about him. So lovely to hear. There was genuine warmth there with a lot of them and the stuff they were saying was every parents dream. Every one we went to, once we said who we were there to discuss, there would just be an affectionate sigh and we would be told about how polite, intelligent, engaging, dedicated and well-learned he was with whatever subject that was being discussed.
After having such a difficult settling in period, and considering he is someone that worries so much about everything and overthingks everything, it was so fucking amazing to be told how well he has settled in to his classes and the positive impact he has had on his teachers.
Stuff like that just kind of knocks you for six a bit and (we all do this) considering me and the wife are constantly beating ourselves up, it's nice to know that we've done something right after all.

From what you've posted previously it sounds like he's got his head properly screwed on. Nice work, you should be proud!

Thanks guys. Yeah, very proud tbh. I'm not one of those "aww haw haw look what MY child can do" parents. We just want him to have the best possible education he can in the time that he is at school so I'm so happy he's properly applying himself. That actually was one of the comments, that he obviously was there to work, and just gave it everything he had during the lesson.
Now... If he could just bring a little bit of that home and apply it to the stuff he has to do there...

You going to treat the lad?
Half the reason I swotted down at school was knowing I'd get a Burger King on the way home following a good parents evening.
I probably wouldn't recommend that.

It was his birthday at the weekend and he was utterly spoiled anyway tbh. That said he's got a school trip today and we did buy him a nice lunch to take with him so there's that at least. I just told him how awesome he is and to keep going the way he's going.

Its a weird experience. All of my parents evenings were such car crashes, I still cant really process how positive the girls ones are.
Like we drive home and nobody is screaming or crying. How?

Our eldest's are always full of wry smiles. Everyone really likes him but he's definitely no wallflower, and all the teachers know he could be doing much better if he actually bothered his arse. All ticking along nicely but with a bit of application could be smashing it out of the park. As it is, he relies on being bright to get by, which he does by and large but will come unstuck at some point.
The youngest's are always full of praise for how lovely and kind she is but with recognition that she struggles a bit. Bless.
And yeah, reports are always followed by a maccies or KFC.

Still. Nice to know for every positive there’s a negative. Just had the bill for getting my bike serviced. Half the cost of the fucking bike!!!
Although to counter that with another positive. I just also picked up the new bike we got the boy for the aforementioned birthday and he’s going to fucking love it. Lots of bike trips this year!

The eldest got new joycons for her glowing parents evening feedback.
Perhaps I need to revisit that!
Made my bed and all that.

I wish i knew what a glowing parents evening was like for our lad! Normally they are ok, nice lad, very pleasant, but could work harder/apply themselves better. Part of me hopes this being the start of exams for him will enable better work ethic as he narrows subjects through ones he has picked himself and should enjoy more. He says hopefully. In full delusion of the results to come in august.
