Elton John. Don't enjoy his music much but no hate. He's not in my musical zeitgeist. I've never understood his success or status.
What I don't really get is his status as a musical legend.

So far, so not McCartney. Give the crowd what they want and everyone’s a winner. When does the Dave sweepstake start?

There’s a moment during the Courteneers song on the iplayer ‘must listen to’ (or something like that) section, toward the end of the song, where the lead singer implores the crowd to go for it, and boy do they. It absolutely goes off. Lovely to see

This Elton John... not a bad debut Glastonbury performance. Confident.

Stormzy, Harry Styles, and Britney were some of the possible guest names floating around earlier.
And Dave Grohl of course. I was singing in the shower earlier and Dave popped in for an appearance.

If there's on thing I would love to see disappear from existence it's fucking flares.
What's the point? Ooooh look at my smoke. Fucking off everyone around you. Shithousery of the highest order at concerts and football.

The absolute twat setting one off in the tent during the Astley/Smiths set was the worst. In a tent! The rest of the crowd should tear them a new one.

It’s been a much stronger year for my tastes, although I did enjoy Robert Plant and Macca a lot and Billie Eilish is not marketed at me but was OK and strangely compelling.
So far Foo Fighters have been my favourite, I think the energy was off the charts and only dipped on the song with Violet (which I do think is a lovely song).
Hozier was absolutely transcendent IMO. I think he’s the only person in many years to have had a bit of a Buckley/Hendrix sort of totemic aura about him. It’s like watching Jesus. Seeing him in a couple of weeks too. Excited after that.
Manics were top once they warmed up, really enjoyed that, a classic band.
I watched Gabriel’s again after spotting him last year and lo and behold here he is on Elton’s stage. He’s top although a bit more grit wouldn’t go amiss. Reminds me of Luther V interpreting Motown and gospel.
Arctic Monkeys were a bit boring but I didn’t like them in their pomp really. GnR a mixed bag, an hour of them I would absolutely love but my attention was wandering towards the end and they had sound issues to me.
I’ll try and catch Lizzo at some point.
Hoping QUOTSA can finish with a bang as I don’t love Elton. Their recent Pinkpop set is on YouTube and is spine tingling, brilliant new album too.

Was thinking about how I know so many tracks yet have never gone out of my way to listen to him, never bought any of his music.
I guess over my 50+ years his music has washed over me - radio shows, other people's choices etc. Really does weave its way into your musical knowledge.

His slower numbers are better than the bluesy ones. Gives his voice the chance to stretch its legs.

Why does Elton have to sing some bits of the songs purposely different? Like, it's out of melody with the music and everyone in the crowd is singing it along correctly. C'mon.

They were awesome at Pinkpop but it’s like they are playing for their lives tonight. This is one of the greatest rock performances I’ve seen at this festival.
