Streaming has absolutely ruined that for me. Used to be the same, pouring over albums, lyrics, going back to previous to see how sounds evolve. Albums tell a story. Now I just chuck a genre on shuffle. Pure laziness (and lack of time) really.

I too am an albums only (& b-sides) listener with live gigs for favourite artists. Streaming & playlists is not for me (I still buy cd albums for the car).
I find music streaming makes it too hard to focus down on an artist as it’s too easy to just skip around tracks and multiple artists as soon as the tempo drops etc on what you are listening too. I especially hate the new “short attention span” trend of modern albums where it seems like if a 10+ track album for example has 3 or so standout songs the production seems to almost always be get those songs into the front 5 tracks of the album (usually songs 2-4)… then you end up with a front loaded album rather than a better balanced one over the full runtime… although recently producers do seem to be taking a bit more of a balanced approach than a few years back when streaming was gathering pace.
Shuffle is even worse - don’t go there!
Playlists only have a place for parties etc when you have multiple peeps with multiple music tastes. If you know what you like put in the effort and stick to albums, your internal music fan will thank you for it!

I too just do albums but I like to queue a few up for car journeys etc. and hate how Spotify etc have albums with loads of bonus tracks that I need to delete or skip over.

Well I’m the guy you’ll all hate then, 1700 songs in my playlist, constantly on random, probably no more than 2 songs from the same album in there.

I was pleasantly surprised by how tight GnR sounded last night. Band’s on point and the boy Slash can still shred like no other. Axl’s voice seems to operate in opposite land where anything sung in normal tones was barely audible but he can then still shriek and hit the high notes with relative ease, bless him.
Anyway, my teenage years came flooding back and that was pretty fucking great.

Anyway, tonight's headliner will be QOTSA for me, and I would hope that Dave Grohl can rock up for a few tunes from Them Crooked Vultures and Songs for the Deaf.

She's great. Don't like her latest album as much but it's all good. Definitely a fuckload more interesting than the 1975 IMO.

Limp Bizkit / nu metal was one of the all time worst periods in modern music history... shame she chose that song in particular to make a statement, considering it's basically the soundtrack to white fratboy violence, assault and rape at Woodstock '99.

Now I just chuck a genre on shuffle. Pure laziness (and lack of time) really. It’s one of the biggest reasons I listen to vinyl. You pretty much commit to listening to everything front to back. The only exception is when I listen to ‘Alternative Light Source’ by Leftfield. I always skip needle on for the Sleaford Mods track because I absolutely fucking hate them.

Yeah, I’ve got a ‘master’ playlist with 1000 odd songs on it for the car, putting on around the house, whatever. It’s quite interesting to go dig back through it and see that I was really into dancehall ragga in May 2014.

Yeah, there is that. I think she makes it her own though. The full section of the mash-up is Blind, then her song STFU, then Break Stuff. About 18 min into her set on iplayer. Got the set on properly now and it sounds really cool.

Music is weird man, we all enjoy it our different ways. Don’t remember where I heard this, but it’s the only art form where we enjoy repetition. Imagine a movie where the same scene would come up 3 times. Also, it can give you chills or goosebumps. Like that Lewis Capaldi video on the previous page, it’s hot af in here, but it gives me goosebumps.

Yeah, I hate myself a little bit for it. My younger self would be appalled. Maybe I'll get back into it properly when the kids fuck off.

Album person here too, then I select my favourites and chuck them into my playlist. Albums are great for working or long listening (duh). Playlist preferred for commute or exercise, where it doesn't feel sacrilegious to only get halfway through.

My mate is there, he has said hands down the hives have been the best performers. Their new song is great too (has an Evil dead video). So Thanks bbc for not recording it…

I still have hundreds of CDs in the loft but nothing to actually play them on. I assume the PS5 or Series X would play them but I can't see me ever doing that. Streaming and playlists in particular are just so damn convenient.

Techmoan just did a video on this. Only the xbox plays CDs, Sony, who co-invented the format, doesn’t support it anymore, they PS3 was their last console that did it.

There isn’t really any advantage to CDs anymore. Now that most streaming platforms are lossless it’s literally just the same data streamed instead of on a physical disc. It’s a format that is dying out through irrelevancy rather than Sony being evil.

Nova Twins are about the only band coming over here that I'm interested in, but they're playing in a really tiny dive box place which looks like it'd be horrible when packed with sweaty people.

I don't know about anyone else, but I always feel a sense of comfort when I see the two Wolves flags in front of the Pyramid stage (Glastowolf and the other guy with the 3 wolves). It's just nice to know they made it another year or something.

But those are often the best gigs Bill. (a) I'm too old for this shit. A japanese dive box place filled with silent, respectful fans, all standing entirely motionless (b) That's my other fear. and (c) it looks like a fucking death trap if there's anything like a fire. and (d) I think it's in August as they're coming over for the Summersonic Festival. It's gonna be soooooo sweaty. (Tempted to get summersonic tickets, but the lineup isn't that great. www.summersonic.com/en/lineup/tokyo-day1/www.summersonic.com/en/lineup/tokyo-day2/)
