I preferred Carly-Rae and am now enjoying the sundowner vibes from Fred Again I was surprised how good her set was. Currently watching Foo Fighters on bbc2. Not sure they suit the 6pm slot but you know you are going to get a great show.

Sparks featuring Cate Blanchett dancing like a well lubricated robot wasn’t a thing I was expecting.

He does currently have laryngitis, might be the only way he can get through it.

Ah that explains it, he's got laryngitis so they got a pub singer to cover for him.

Early days yet but enjoying Sparks' set - even the cameo - and always enjoy The Comet is Coming but think they lose something on a day lit stage.

I guess the illness could explain it or maybe its the way its being shot for tv but this Arctic Monkey’s set has nothing going for it. Its so flat and passionless. It feels like footage from a Whistle Test studio set intercut with crowd shots from some other gig.

Yep, easily the flattest headliner for a long long time.
This is supposed to be the headline act, on the main stage. I just turned it off.

I’m flicking between Hot Chip and Kelis. They both seem to be having a great time.

Yeah the Burt Bacharach style does nothing for most of AM's tunes.

Quite like the lounge style albums they did recently. But 25 degree heat in a glastonbury field is not the time to play them.
Foo fighters have there own issues but at least they turned up played some big tunes fast and loud and then left lol!

I think looking and acting like you actually want to be there should be the minimum for a show like this and the Foo Fighters definitely looked like they were enjoying themselves

Foo fighters have there own issues but at least they turned up played some big tunes fast and loud and then left lol! I've just watched the AM set. I really like their latter stuff, as I think it shows a bit of development. They are not the 18 year olds they were when they burst onto the scene. I agree that Festival sets should be about banging out the hits - that said though, I enjoyed it a lot, but probably because I like those albums. Laryngitis would explain the more subdued approach though, for sure.

I just finished it too, and I quite enjoyed it. I’m not a die hard or anything, but it’s cool seeing how much their sound keeps developing and how much more of a swaggering frontman Alex Turner has become after those awkward early days. Think they’ve got a great sound and it felt like a proper set rather than just banging out all the old ones for the 40 years olds.

I actually enjoyed a good hr watch of The Farm Monkeys before my “wow it’s got very late” old man brain turned it off last night. Can agree with above comments that delivery of set felt quite monotone in places, almost too cool for school approach. Alex Turner has been going down this road for a while now overly focused on becoming a crooner for the new generation.
That said they are older and probably less likely to want a thousand glasses of piss heading for them and the crowd towards the front of the stage for the early bangers so you can’t blame them for being more mellow. I can respect but am not a fan of either of the latest 2 albums and hope the next (probably another 3yrs away but I might be wrong) sees them focus back on their guitars and more upbeat tunes.
I have to agree too that AT has always seemed to just get into his own zone on stage and there’s a bit of a lack of connection to the crowd. Almost like he’s intent on delivering a best in class art school lecture through music rather than an entertaining show for the masses. The moonlighting and stage design also did not help.
7/10 from me (still one of the best lyracists of modern indie bands)

Foo Fighters and AM's pals in QOTSA are much older and still bring the rock. I've always liked AM but that was an oddly mannered performance for me, bit of a caricature. Just a matter of taste though I guess innit.

I thought it was usually during Wimbledon. I Must be misremembering or mixing it up with something else. I always enjoy watching the weekend coverage of it each year. I watched a bit of the Foos. I was a bit worried Dave was going to pass out as he was already looking very red in the face by about 2 minutes into the first song Either my tv sound or the sound recording wasn't great, though that's always a risk with live outdoor concerts.

The Fred Again.. set is worth watching, if you like that kind of thing. It is just him pressing buttons but he does it with such childish glee, it’s very infectious.
