Plus we're all getting old and the musicians we like are all dying...

I saw GnR when they played Leeds Festival about 20 years ago and it was brilliant but any recent clip I see of Axl now is really depressing. I think a lot of people are going to be shocked when they tune in.
Of the headliners Elton is the one I think I’m most looking forward to seeing on the telly.

Yeah, there are at least half a dozen acts on there I’d see on there. It’s not too bad.
The problem is, like I say every year like aliens 3 clockwork, who else would you have on there? There’s no such thing as a ‘credible’ stadium act anymore. Anyone recent who can headline is firmly in the pop space and anyone who isn’t started touring in the 90s.
Nobody wants to see Foo Fighters for the 8000th time.

I’d enjoy that line up. Sure some of the older acts are passed their peak. But there are quite a few acts I haven’t seen before. Plus, I didn’t get to a Manics gig last year.

Guardian article had Queens of the Stone age down but later removed.
Guessing they could be a likely secret act.
They're doing the festival circuit this year around Europe but none announced for the UK yet.

I'd never go to Glastonbury but that would be one I'd love to see, along with Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam and Royal Blood looking at that line-up. Just hoping QOTSA announce some UK arena shows, I've largely given up on going to anything outdoors these days.

They're renaming the John Peel stage to "Woodsies"

Huh... Wasn't aware he was a wrongun.
Fair enough in that case, but it's still a shit name to change it to. Sounds like something you'd say to a dog in a high pitched voice. "Shall we go walkies in the Woodsies?"

The War on Drugs and Chvrches are the only two bands I'd be properly excited to see on that line up.
I had no idea hot chip and alt-j were still going, haven't heard anything by them for over a decade.

Fever Ray, Nova Twins, Slowthai and Sparks would be the artists who interest me most on there.
I'd also give Alt-J, Kelis, Leftfield and Manic Street Preachers a go.
Certainly wouldn't pay the asking price though. On balance I'd rather just go to ArcTanGent tbh but CBA going to a festival by myself.

alt-j, lana del rey, the chvrches and war on drugs for me...but, yes, doesn't seem to have the depth of previous lineups...think it'll be a year of discovering new stuff when i watch the beeb's coverage

Yeah definitely slimmer pickings this year but will try and catch the Graysons Handbag set.
Hoping we finally get to see Gary Barlow perform with Yusef have always felt it could quite literally bring the house down.

" Shall we go walkies in the Woodsies?" Let’s just say he took advantage of being in the States during Beatlemania. The quotes from his interviews and writing just seem to treat the whole thing as a bit of a jolly. A few of the most damning are in here: www.independent.co.uk/voices/john-peel-glastonbury-stage-petition-rename-b2116331.html

Lana thinking of pulling out because she doesn't understand the alphabet.
Or something.

I'm slightly upset that they put all the "the" bands together.

I've never been to a festival, never really appealed to me I don't think. I used to watch loads of bands years ago, Manics, Iron Maiden, Foo Fighters all rock/metal but the thought of 3 days non-stop of a concert makes me feel a bit sick. Like literally physically sick, imagining waking up on the second day in a state knowing you've got to keep going that day AND THE NEXT. Like a stag do weekend but no hotel to at least get a bit of respite.
Think I'd also find it stressful if the line-up was great deciding who to watch.

I know I’m too much of a lightweight for Glastonbury despite being a big music fan and around 5-15 concerts most years since my early 20’s. Only ever camped for a 2 day stint at V Festival back in my early 20’s with mixed weather in the midlands and that was scarring enough to decide festivals for a single day are the only option that suits…
Glasto BBC coverage tho… amazing! We’re so lucky we get it and to such a high standard!

I went in 2000 and 2004 with a big group of friends in a transit van and loved it even though I'm not the biggest music person. I got to see the extreme sunny and wet versions in those 2 time I went.
I had a mortgage after that so was fucked for going after that until 2015 but just can't stomach the price these days, I got a house to spend all my cash on now.

Yeah, even in UHD too! Texas aren't my kind of thing, but Sharleen Spiteri seems good at interacting with the crowd.

My wife's just said she'd love to go as a family. I just know with all the good intentions in the world, as soon as I'd had a couple of drinks that'd be me either on a session for the duration or ruining the whole thing by feeling rough after the first day.
So bad at doing things by half measures.

Foo Fighters look and sound in good shape. Royal Blood will be on for another moan when the field empties and they come on to a quarter of this crowd next

Possibly only beaten by Elton on Sunday. Though thinking about it, having an early slot means the potential audience isn’t split so could be larger.

I’m not sure there’s another band quite like them. They’ve not released a good album this side of 9/11, so many of their singles are overplayed to the point I can’t bare to listen to them anymore, and they can be massively guilty of blandly going through the motions live but then every so often they’re capable of capturing the mood and emotion of a show in a way only the very best do and absolutely deliver. Dave Grohl is just such a force of personality I guess.
That set is undoubtably going straight into the BBC canon of Top Glastonbury Moments and will be trotted out in listicles for the next decade. And probably deservedly so.
