Casually talking to a villager whilst there’s a fucking dragon in the background setting everything on fire. You're talking about the game still right? After the extended session I had on it last night to make up for being away, I'm not honestly sure any more.

Yeah I can't decide with the vocation. I just need *something* to help with melee with the archer. Can you upgrade the kick later on or something similar to help or is it a case of constantly repositioning? I'm just constantly respositioning. I'm getting used to just hanging at the back and shooting things now. If something runs at me I tend to run at it, jump and kick off it and get some distance. For big things I shoot erupting arrows in to their faces and it helps them to go down pretty quick.
Finally made it to Battahl before I finished my session. Despite the fact that when I was on my way back to the border town I got distracted by a tower I saw from the road. It took me an hour to get round to it and climb it and even then I had to ignore other areas that called to me as I passed them. You don't get anywhere quickly in this game... Still got a whole ton of map bits I want to look at as well.

Ah yes, the jump attack thing. It looked and sounded fiddly from what you lot mentioned previously, but I think I'm going to have to give it a go. That might help

If you get the explosive arrow upgrade you can jump on the big beasties and stab them with explosives.
One thing I really miss from being an archer is quick shooting harpies from the sky. They are a lot more dangerous for a non archer. The thief ensnare ability helps but isn’t as effective.

Has anyone done the Phantom Oxcart quest yet? Man, that was fun - my 'pawn disguise' consisted of unequipping everything I had on me, so I showed up to the rendezvous point dressed solely in my boxer shorts. While I was waiting for the cart to appear, I engaged in a spot of shadow boxing... only to hear an agonised yelp coming from the undergrowth, whereupon I realised I'd punched a rabbit to death by mistake. My pawns (led by Billy) then sassed me for picking up its pelt.

Harpies are a total pain in the ass to handle as a melee character. The Helm Splitter/Skull Splitter abilities you can equip as a Thief - in which you jump into the air and become a spinning Catherine wheel of death - work well, but the timing makes it tricky to pull off reliably.

That's quite the feat considering how niche the game is and how many people online honestly lost their goddamn minds over the MTX.

Even to the extent that when I played DD1 over the weekend I bemoaned the lack of that quick fire auto aim thing. It's a godsend.

One thing I would like from Billy, personally, is for him not to spy a sleeping dragon in the distance and - whilst the rest of us are skirting the area trying not to wake it up - decide to run at it and start stabbing it in the neck.
Fuck sake Billy.

Yeah, harpies are one of the main reasons I stick with ranged classes in general. That and super powerful shots. I'm liking dire arrow - I can normally get the slo mo super damage timing right now. That along with whatever skill I have that fires 3 in a row is good. I'm hoping there's some kind of equivalent of ten fold flurry from the first one, because that fucking ruled in the first game.

There’s a skill that essentially puts your bow into full auto mode. It’s great.
You need to craft or buy special arrows for the skills. Which is fair enough I suppose considering how powerful they are. Need to find a good source of kindling…

You can buy explosive arrows fairly cheaply, or craft them from branches + something else. So I think it’s quite easy to have a decent stock. Bear in mind you need the upgraded version to stab the big guys.

Every time the internet loses it's shit about something I have to remember that they account for a very small portion of the real world. See also the Harry Potter boycott.

Fuck sake Billy. Are you playing fast and lose with your pawn commands - even Billy (who constantly sasses me whenever I use him - the second time I picked him up he commented "oh not you again") shouldn't run at dragons when you're trying to sneak if you use the "to me" command no?

Ah right. So I've done the nameless village quest and now, I could switch to thief as I now have thief armour, some daggers, formless feint and blades of the pyre.
Hmm!

Is he wearing chaps? I'm LV 43 and I'd consider having Billy if he's wearing chaps otherwise no dice.

Fucks sake, I'd just got some gold and then it cost 5k for the charnel guy just to light a bloody candle on a coffin so I could revive Bermudo.
Still, least the quest has progressed now

Headed out for the border checkpoint town, with a plan to uncover a few areas of the map on my way. Ended up fighting a griffin, climbed up on its back and got flown away to its nest somewhere in the misty woods. That was a fun journey back. Not quite sure how my pawns ended up at the nest with me mind, but I’m glad they did! I really think they’d have been better off having a very cut down main quest that just sends you to different areas in the map. The fun is definitely in the journey. To be honest, I’m surprised this reviewed so well. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good fun to play but there are lots of weird things as mentioned in this thread that it’s getting a bit of a free pass for. I can look past it but I’m surprised it didn’t get knocked down for some of it. You might want to explore the northern part of the Misty Woods. Just saying.

I just maxed out the initial sword/shield fighter class and changed to an archer. Totally agree- it feels like it needs a better “repel” option for things that chase you down. But I really love the change, actually- after having been in the thick of it it’s nice to hang back and watch random shit go down. My main pawn is an archer too, but it’s still working with a melee fighter (mostly) holding agro and an offensive mage chucking shit from the sky but not healing at all. Very flexible system.
I returned to Havre village for the second time, did the thing and then ventured back along the coast, through little inlets and the odd cave. Very different feel and super cool. The world is amazing and the AI works really well. I’ve tuned out the potato graphics mostly now.
