I reckon it's how emergent it is. It's the same as the first one. That's hard to describe too.
They've somehow managed to bottle chaotic but insanely satisfying combat.

It definitely looks a bit shit (although also looks beautiful in places), and its just a bit laughably stupid sometimes (see stealth quests with no stealth mechanics).
But there is something about it. Its just fun to play. I think if it took itself seriously and tried be a souls type game it would fail, but it embraces its quirkiness and just seems to work. At least so far for me anyway.

Played little more today, only up to the Dragon heart theft but I think I will give more time over the BH. I still have Bunny in my party but need 1 more FG/EG Pawns, suggestions please On the subject of pawns, I loves when I heard one say something along the lines of " One arisen only used me for half a day and then sent me back...LOL

This is the thing for me. It works IN SPITE of it doing so many things to make me dislike it. I can't even explain it, at first I was like this is alright, I'm not sure what the 5 star reviews are about and then I think it may have been when I fought my first Cyclops the music started and I used the blocked river to fuck him over and that was it for me. I was fucking sold. Plus it shares the same concept of Elden Ring and current Zelda of promoting exploring rather than have icon bloat all over the map. It's amazing how's it taken me a long time to be comfortable with having no icons all over a map telling me what to do next. A lot of it really does feel like the Fighting Fantasy choose your adventure books. That's exactly why I like the first one . And obviously this one too. Yeah this really. This is why I don't even know if I'll bother to use my ferrystones. I love just walking to my objective and just... well, seeing what the hell is going to unfold on the way. It's janky as hell. The first one was janky as hell. I came to the first one late and initially thought it looked and played like absolute crap. There was no way that I was going to enjoy it.
But... pawns. Pawns and the silly things they do. The silly things they say. Pawns that quite happily give their lives for you as they clamber on to the face of a massive creature. Take that, add a day and night cycle that matters; a map that just begs to be explored; emergent gameplay that's pretty much unparallelled (again, pawns); a unique vocation system that encourages experimentation and for you to swap your playstyle on a whim; a social integration mechanic with said pawns and the way you can trade them with people you know, and you've got a game that can look and run and feel like shit, but is still better than nearly every other game out there.

It has the vibe of a plucky new studio and their first stab at a game. One that could only afford to license Unreal 2. It’s remarkably rough at times with different game systems crashing over the top of each other. But, yes, I get the Chose Your Own Adventure angle, and outside of the (thus far) somewhat shallow quests, just wandering the world and seeing what’s out there is appealing and the gung ho pawns are great.

Thought I'd have a quick blast at lunch. BIG MISTAKE. Genuinely thought I'd been an hour and realised it was two! Oops.
Anyway, was wandering around a field of those giant cows when WHOOSH a griffin swoops down and grabs one! It's health bar was already a bit depleted so it must have been the one that interrupted my dragon fight yesterday (whole other story), and thanks to the gut and run skill I mentioned earlier it was dead by nightfall. Seriously, climbing onto a griffin, stabbing it in the head, back flipping off at great height and having big Dunc catch me...chefs kiss.
Then I switched from thief to archer for a quest and enjoyed the hell out of that. It's a fun class. Managed to level up quite far on the walk to the quest and I think I'll explore around the area and see how high I can get the vocation before switching back. Hasn't quite convinced me to switch permanently (thief is great fun) but it has convinced me to look for decent archer pawn.
TLDR: don't play on lunch break.

The quests are quite meh at the moment, although the story is engaging and the dialogue is always hilarious, but they are excuses for you to travel, and that seems to be where the juice is.

I should add that it also has something no other game does:
That's right, live action meat frying.

Oh man, pawns that can guide are absolute godsends for some of the more vague side quests. Ignoring them taking a path that goes directly through a fucking dragon, that is... I had that happen last night. A hired pawn was my guide on a long trip, taking me across the map through every mob and monster it was possible to bump into along the way. He did earn me a bunch of money and XP, helping me complete the quest I threw him off a cliff into a river at the end of it though

You definitely have to unlock it, but I'm not sure how as I haven't got that far myself yet.
You need to visit Merve again.

Ooooooh. I totally skipped over the spearhand weapon when I wandered through ancient battleground. Just nipped back and grabbed it and it's a nice upgrade for free!

Congrats quad. Those occasions when you have free time between jobs without actually worrying about getting a new job are rare, but glorious. Make the most of it and enjoy!
My DD update - I completed a few more of Brant’s quests, including the aforementioned utterly broken stealth quest of springing some guy from gaol.
Pleasingly, I picked up a quest to go and visit the Nameless Village in the East, which I’d already done all the steps for before acquiring the quest. Everything nicely pinged for me while I stood next to Brant and I just turned it all in for my reward. I’m very glad the game does this even if you’ve done things slightly out of order.
I was also quite amused by my (female) Arisen’s response to one NPC who doubted the truth of her claim to be Arisen… one flash of her chest later and he appeared to be totally convinced! I feel this is not entirely politically correct in 2024, but it was definitely effective!

Regarding the rewards/requests I haven’t quite gauged the value/ rarity of items yet so I apologise if I commit a faux pas on that front.
