Only had time to go through the intro section before work this morning. Was worried about frame rates right off the bat as it got quite jumpy in the very first scene, but doesn't seem too bad outside of that so far (Series X). Was some awful colour banding in the first scene too, worst I've seen it on my C2. Don't know if it's my settings, but not noticed it since, so can probably live with it. For some reason once the intro finished I thought I'd see if the water was any safer than the first game... it wasn't! Probably should have realised after witnessing Rook's fate... Yeah, just got through the beginning and was concerned by the 360 era framerate it improved as I got to the main starting area though. I had seen on a YouTube channel that watch that the Series consoles have a colour banding issue as well as having a upscaling visual bug that makes things quite blockish. I'm sure it will be patched... eventually. Anyway back to work I go. Sigh.

Thought I was going crazy the other day, as I'm sure the character creator was fine previously, but noticed some nasty colour banding when I fired it up

Get a feeling that 1000g for an inn will be insignificant quite quickly. I was a bit taken aback when I saw it at the start too. Was it not 500 in the first game anyway? It’s not that much different really.

I don't know if it specifies anywhere, but I'm going to start thinking of 'G' as groat. I hate it in videogames where everything costs hundreds or thousands of gold, like anybody in a medieval society would be walking around with that sort of currency.

The G is clearly for "Griffins".

Hmm, I'm going to go with the obvious Fontgeek answer of Gonads. It's always Gonads.

Loaded up the main screen this morning, it pained me to turn it off and head into work I am both blessed and cursed to be working from home. I could play it any time I want...maybe I'll take a mid morning break? I'm sure I can put it down after... Same, this is me. I stayed strong and didn't log on at midnight as I knew I'd just wake up this morning far too tired for school drop off and gym (let alone work), but the game is installed, my character and main pawn already created and it's eating away at me. Stay strong...stay strong.

Not sure I want to see what sort of sack people keep 1000 Gonads in.

The melee combat in this looks a bit floaty and lacking impact. Is ranged combat a better bet? (Archer)

I mainly feel sorry for quaddy at this point because he is clearly bursting at the seams with excitement, so I'm going to bow out, and hopefully the chat about Pawns and Bishops being thrown into the sun by Griffins can commence. Don't worry about me boss - I couldn't give a flying turd about mtx. I'll do exactly what wunty is doing and simply ignore them. I'm going to be too busy getting flung into chasms anyway to notice. And fast travel? Fuck that, I want to see everything and take my precious time with it.

So when I booted this up this morning I was surprised to see it's called DD not DD2. Is this essentially a remake?

The Inn at gran soren in the first one charges quite a lot more than other inns. You'll be shitting cash and riftstones in no time. It's not even worth fussing about imo. How much is the shortcut item in dark souls to open the forest door? 20k. And you have to farm a lot for that. So what. Fuck it.

Yes it would be handy wouldn't it. Where are the bloody real life shortcuts you can buy? I'd buy one to sort my grey hair out. Maybe give myself some extra carrying ability. Can grab more shit I don't need from tesco that way.

I've just read up on the mtx. One of the items they mention that you can buy for £1.69 to revive your arisen is in the game anyway. So it's just for lazy bastards that can't be arsed, so I'm pretty sure that won't affect my experience.
I agree it's wrong etc, but lots of things in life are wrong and greed is always going to win so you either bitch about it, dont get anywhere and raise your blood pressure unnecessarily, or get on with it your own way.

I liken Capcom's mtx to shit cheat codes really. They're just so...odd. They come across as mtx for people who actively don't want to play the game or want to start a game as OP as possible. Judging by the fact that the OG Dragon's Dogma also included them back in 2012 it's clear that people are buying them. A lot of people. I don't agree with them in principle but it's not something that's going to make me froth at the mouth and saying I'm going to pirate it to send a message which is something I'm seeing people actually post. There ar just too many other important things in my life to get angry about and tbh I rarely get angry in real life.

Looks like the list of items that Capcom mentions in their blog post response to MTX are all items that came with the deluxe edition if you ordered that version (I did for some reason, can't remember why, but hey ho):
Art of Metamorphosis - Character Editor Ambivalent Rift Incense - Change Pawn Inclinations Portcrystal - Warp Location Marker Wakestone - Restore the dead to life! 500 Rift Crystals / 1500 Rift Crystals / 2500 Rift Crystals - Points to Spend Beyond the Rift Makeshift Gaol Key - Escape from gaol! Harpysnare Smoke Beacons - Harpy Lure Item

Oh wait, that's already happening, we just don't have enough money to be offered the option...

As long as the game isn't balanced in such a way that players are pushed towards microtransactions - like the 'XP boosters' in recent Ubisoft releases, for instance, or the orcs you could buy in Middle-earth: Shadow of War - I'm okay with ignoring it. (Sure, I'll grouse about it on Font Geek, but otherwise my pitchfork will remain in situ!)
Amazon say I should expect my copy to arrive between 16:30 and 18:30, which is... okay, actually. I wasn't planning to dive in until the evening in any case.

Eh, even in Ubi games I never really felt like I needed the MTX stuff tbh. Granted I did do a lot of the optional things for experience and skills, but still...

No don't worry they're nothing like that bullshit, they're shit and rubbish as I don't know why you would make them MTX but as in every other Capcom game they make no fundamental difference to the game. Well apart from SF6 and the drive rush tickets now THEY are bullshit. But you know, modern gaming eh?

Sneaking them out between the lifting of the review embargo and launch is pretty scummy in my opinion.
Still psyched for the game, and can't wait to dive in, but Capcom really should be above such shenanigans.
Capcom has had micro transactions for well over a decade. They're not above this stuff at all. People still love their games. The fact it's been like this for a decade shouldn't mean that people shouldn't be vocally opposed to it though?
