Waaagh!
It's been long wait but boy are the reviews sounding good. I spent 100s of hours on 2 and I hope the performance is up to scratch on launch.

I have both the first and second, but only played the first for a few hours. Not really sure why as I enjoyed those few hours.
Have just gone to pre-load 3 via Game Pass and seems to have downloaded about 17MB. As it claims it is going to take up over 100GB, that is either some seriously impressive compression or I'm not sure they understand the point of pre-loading.

Best reference I've ever seen I loved 1 & 2 but by god, I'm shit at them. Even after 100 hours my battle skills are rancid

Chaos dorfs! Chaos dorfs! Chaos dorfs! Sadly not yet, not even on the map (Orcs where they're likely to be), but they're likely the first DLC race pack and I'd guess this year. Personally I've pre-ordered it but I have noticed there is one problem. WH2 started getting really really good later on. People assumed this was because the devs learned what people liked and started leaning into it. Apparently not. Apparently the time WH2 went from good to great is when the WH2 original design team moved on to WH3, and the Sofia-based design team took over doing the WH2 updates and DLC. All the boring/weak early lord packs? All the dubious multiplayer-centric balancing? Bizarre nerfs to weak factions and so on that characterised early WH2? That was the original designers. And they're the people who designed WH3. The more obsessive kind of WH players/streamers have already noticed a lot of nerfs to stuff in single-player/campaign seemingly because of multiplayer issues, and it seems that weird balance nerfs that impact like 1% of players are being prioritized ahead of fixing major issues that impact like 20%. Just like early WH2. Research and lord skill lines for the new races are very, very weak compared to WH2, which is apparently because the devs felt it might impact co-op/vs. multiplayer campaigns too much. Magic got nerfed extremely hard (directly contrary to what the devs said about improving it, note) - it's unclear why, they haven't explained, but all the times magic got nerfed in WH2? Because of multiplayer battles. There are also a lot of other questionable design choices (like forcing even Ogres to have the same endgame as the other races) which seem very much informed by this "early WH2" approach. Of course it's still a great game, and deserves the 8.5-9.5-ish reviews its getting, and I'm sure most players will enjoy the hell out of it, but I suspect it'll be a few years, if ever, before the design is actually quite as great as late WH2. I'm the sort of lunatic who has 1700 hours on WH2 though so things I care about may be weird. Also positively, the performance was already "okay" and apparently the day 1 patch improves it a significant amount from there.

Yes I'm extremely hyped for what's clearly going to be the first bit of DLC after mortal empires.

I've been enjoying the tutorial, got about half way through and the end turn button has been greyed out and there's no way to progress from what I can tell, oh well.
If you're not a mega fan like myself it's probably best to pick this up in a few months once the major bugs have been fixed.

I've been enjoying the tutorial, got about half way through and the end turn button has been greyed out and there's no way to progress from what I can tell, oh well. I had a really similar issue literally within 10 minutes of starting as the Chaos Undivided guys, which was great, lol. It was fixable though, but I only knew it probably was because I'd seen the bug before a few times in early WH2. Basically, odds are, somewhere there's something on screen, it wants you to click on. There should be a tooltip telling you what it is, but for some reason there isn't. If a new mechanic just got introduced it's probably to do with that. So you can just click on things and see if it fixes. For me for some reason I think I had to click on a settlement. It's also possible that if you can save, saving and reloading will just fix it, or trigger the tooltip (if that's what it is). But with any strategy game or RPG yeah it's usually best to wait a while if you want a relatively bug-free experience, sadly (I can't think of any modern exceptions - maybe CK3?). On the upside the graphics are significantly improved, the general experience is smoother and less hitchy (except camera panning in the area introductions for some reason) in all ways, units seem a bit more responsive in combat, and the minor settlement battles and sieges are improved (still not perfect, but a lot better). Also the music is way better. Also of note - rather surprisingly the Game Pass version includes the Ogres.

I have to admit, much as I might like Slaanesh and Tzeentch, the Chaos Dorfs are definitely the ones I'm most hyped for in WH3, because I really want to see what they do with them design-wise, given they never got a proper go-over in 8th edition, nor Age of Sigmar (yet - they have rules, just not new models). So they're bound to be updated somewhat. Possibly the reason they didn't make the cut for release but Ogres did is that GW is still reworking them for Warhammer: The Old World or AoS. There are a lot of ways they could go with them, both mechanically and aesthetically (as long as key stuff like the giant hats, permed beards, trains with guns and so on are retained).

I cannot presently offer any hats, but someone did work out what Immortal Empires will look like, from files in the game right now:
https://www.reddit.com/r/totalwar/comments/sul41q/warhammer_3_mortal_empires_based_off_the_game/
So it's going to be even larger than the current Mortal Empires and won't cut off Lustria and er... Africa (?), whilst also being wider, and whilst this map (fan made, but the guess was surprisingly accurate to the actual regions the game lists) doesn't have it, there will be some Chaos Wastes in the far South too.

Yeah, I'm twitching on this. Absolutely loved the first, played it an obscene amount, but wasn't able to give the second one anything like the appropriate amount of time, so thinking I should perhaps just play TW:2 and some Mortal Empires and pick this one up further down the line.
So shiny, though ...

So shiny, though ... If you have Game Pass I'd say just go ahead and play it, but otherwise it's full price and I don't think it's quite where I'd want it to be at full price for how it performs. If it helps, I have 1700 hours on WH2 (and a few hundred on WH1), and I refused to buy WH2 until Mortal Empires got put in lol, so I think you'll be fine just playing WH2 for a month or three or six. Or at least until they fix some of the jankier bugs (which, unfortunately, seem to particularly hit the prologue).

Big hatted bull worshiping Chaos Dorfs baby! Dgzter to be fair Mortal Empires mk 2 will just be part of Total Warhammer 3 soon, so might as well just get that and play it full fat with Chaos Dorfs.

That's a fanmade map - now someone dug the actual one out of the game files - it's allegedly "out of date" according to CA but literally the used the exact same words when someone dug the original ME map out of the WH2 files, and it was 99% identical to what was released so... i.redd.it/oex5us4q5fi81.jpgThe lines are roads and rivers, btw not territory boundaries.

Also I think what I've now established is that if they release a 40K game that's Exodites vs Squats I'll basically just jizz my pants and die of a heart attack. Throw in some properly-done Imperial Knights and I will die a similar death. Eldar Exodites, Imperial Knights and Squats were basically my top three "beloved 40K things" (with Harlequins and Craftworld Eldar coming in just behind them). At least one Squat reappeared in 40K, or rather I think it was the new Necromunda or something, so there's some hope. Also the newest Eldar Scouts have a slightly Exodite-y vibe (but I think they're meant to be something else). And Knights actually got brought to 40K full on (I guess because it's easier to have on on the battlefield than an actual Titan). Also 5 stars from the Graun, nice.

So there's 2 squats in Necromunda now. Ragnis Gunnstein - ammo jack and Grendl Grendelsen - bounty hunter. So they're back in the lore. Rumours keep circulating they'll do something proper for them in 40K somehow, but that does seem like rumours.
On the Exodite front they finally have miniatures for Eldar Corsairs as part of the new Codex: Eldar, and one of them has the Exodite rune on his clothes... Though maybe not as its partially covered up so could be the Corsair one. They're also finally re-doing a lot of the Eldar range that has been in production since I was a child, hello new Avatar of Khaine.
But yeah all the weird non Space Marine shit is where its at. Back in 2nd Ed days when you just had the Codex Imperialis (or even Codices just having background and unit stats for things with no models). All that mysterious shit like Inquisitors, Astropaths, Tech Priest, Custodes, Navigators etc. was the best stuff.
First impressions of Total Warhammer 3: Simultaneous turns where have you been all my life? Also dragging out a formation of units + a character, it slots the character in behind the units automatically now. Worth £50 for that.

Performance is bit all over the place for me especially on the world map due to all effects going on. The engine is really creaking under the games ambitions and it's a pity Creative haven't moved on from essentially Shogun 2.
Anyways, loving the Orges and smashing frontlines with all their massive units. They have a fairly fun meat mechanic and decent starting position. Not sure about the camp part of their game as it's feels a bitu cheesy at moment espeically when raising more armies for no cash.

So the Great Bastion gates take siege attrition when besieged from the outside.... that's an interesting decision.

I've played this a bit on game pass, I can't get on with the campaign, just don't enjoy it.
I'll pick it up on steam when the Immortal Empires map is released so I can play Tomb Kings with all the new QoL features on the big map.

I'll pick it up on steam when the Immortal Empires map is released so I can play Tomb Kings with all the new QoL features on the big map. You and me both buddy. Tomb Kings forever. They need to add Neferata so I can finally get her head for Khalida. But yeah the Realms of Chaos campaign is kind of okay for maybe one run-through, but it really gets very old very fast, given the very limited selection of races (I hope you liked Chaos, because like 80% of the map is one of the four Chaos factions, Norsca, or Warriors of Chaos and the Realms are just more Chaos). I'd say I couldn't believe they released it as the main campaign, except I totally can, because we're back to the old CA design team (not the one on the best bits of WH2), and they've always been rumoured to only care about multiplayer - and they all but admitted this when talking about how they're planning on balancing WH3, which is specifically solely on the basis of multiplayer modes (never mind that 90% of players only play single-player), and guess what the Realms of Chaos design works well for? Multiplayer. Awful. Hopefully they don't massacre Immortal Empires in some way, as I'm intending to be back for that. I'm weirdly not too stressed because I feel like in a year or two the game is bound to be much better, especially if the "main" CA team will just piss off and put the late WH2 guys back on it.

The Realms of Chaos campaign is fun, though I did skip through quite a lot of it during my second playthrough. The Long Campaign conditions can get in the sea though, attempting to invade the chaos wastes with all the attendant attrition just isn't fun. Plus the Kurgan just instant spawn the second you wipe them out from the Great Bastion area so it gets real tedious.
Oh one quality of life feature they still need to fucking add. Not shooting into your own troops. If they're set to fire at will why pick targets where rockets will decimate your own side when there's some fuckers you can hit out in the open? Micro can suck it.
