So basically they noted that everyone thought the vader at the end of rogue one was baddass, and decided to do more of that? I can't really fault their logic, although I still don't really know if I want all the blanks filled in, and I still think it's very risky to have Obi Wan and Vader interacting between Ep3 and Ep4.

This is probably old news / thoughts... There's no way Vader didn't know that Luke was on Tatooine. They didn't exactly do a stellar job of hiding him, by not changing the surname and actually have him living with relatives etc. It could be a good way to explain why Vader never went after him. Perhaps him and Obi Wanker Nobby come to an accord of some sorts after a few dustups during this series and Vader just ends up wanting to sit back and see what path Luke will take.

This has always been the problem with star wars. The more lore you dump onto it and the more gaps you fill in, the dumber the original trilogy seems.
Although you can handwave that specific complaint away with the fact he didnt even know the twins had been born.

Actually, now I come to think of it, I'd be much more interested in a Vader tv show than an Obi-wan one. With him going off hunting jedi, learning from the emperor, etc.. Maybe that's what we're getting here, but it seems weird to focus it on Obi.
They could even base it on Karen Gillen's Vader comics, which seemed to be pretty well received.

It makes sense when Tatooine was a remote backwater planet on the edge of the galaxy. Once the prequels turned it into the home planet of Vader and the centre of every major event in the galaxy it started to look stupid hiding him there.

You could, but considering his mastery of the force its funny no one went "could we not hide luke a bit better?". At least change his name to Glen Earthdancer or something.

To be fair, Vader had a bunch of chats with Leia and never had any inkling that she was his daughter. I guess the force doesn't work that way.
I agree about filling in the blanks making it all seem more dumb though. If this show is mainly about Obi hiding out on Tatooine, and is going to feature a fair amount of Jedi hunters and Vader, it's gonna get even more ridiculous.
I'm imagining a scene were Vader turns up at Owen's farmstead and young Luke has to hide behind the sofa.

Going from the trailer it looks as though its going to be about hunting down the last few Jedis more than anything to do with Luke.

Yeah there’s another planet involved.
I do hope they focus on some other time period soon and move away from the 9-film time period. Do some of that but do something completely separate as well otherwise this universe just stays very small.

It does blow my mind how much apathy this content farm model has generated. I couldnt care less about this, I havent watched half of the marvel things and there are a billion trek shows in the offing which will probably pass me by.
I could probably have mustered up some shits to give had this taken the story forward but since thats only allowed for mainline movies, we are forever stuck with fascinating stories about how Obi-Wan learned how to scream like a Krayt Dragon to scare off the fucking sand people.

I think you have to kind of hand-wave away (Obi-Wan style?) these sorts of inconsistencies and plot ridiculousnesses, because to a large extent Lucas was making it up as he went along. Yes, he had ideas about where it began and where it was going, but at the time he wrote Star Wars Vader wasn't Luke's dad, Leia wasn't his sister, etc. Every subsequent "retcon" (in the sense that he was sort of changing his mind, not that it technically retconned anything we'd already seen) made the galaxy smaller and made the characters' decisions that much dafter - like Obi-Wan going into hiding by, er, dressing exactly the same and keeping his surname.
I think this is all part and parcel of why I can get on board with Jar Jar and the space Vespas and all the other bollocks - for me, it's no different accepting that than it is Luke being hidden with his aunt and uncle but still going by the name of the magic space Nazi who's murdering all the Jedi.

I wonder if he would still have Luke wanting to bone Leia if he had it all planned out. Suppose they are royals so it kind of makes sense.

Well, this is the thing. You can forgive a lot in the original trilogy. It is obviously seat of the pants and some things were clearly either off hand or not meant to be particularly significant. Then subsequent films/series/zoetropes pile a mountain of shite on top of them and just make everything seem stupid.

I still think only the prequels were genuinely bad and had a negative effect on the whole thing. I've enjoyed all of the sequels and TV shows to varying degrees and I don't think they've really made the originals worse by their existence like the prequels did. The third in the sequel trilogy was a mess though. And the none Mandelorian bits of Boba Fett were shit.

At what point do we have to concede that the original trilogy isn't as good as we keep telling ourselves it is?

I like all of it, more or less, and I'm a big Star Wars fan, but no film has ever damaged my concept of the original trilogy more than The Force Awakens. I still maintain the plot of that film makes perfect sense for one sequel, but is terrible if you're trying to create a shared universe.

As gash as the prequel were, I thought McGregor was totally fine, he went for a younger version of the Alec Guiness Obi-Wan, speaking the same way and nailed it.

I agree - I generally dislike the three prequel films, (and personally have enjoyed all the other bits, including new sequels, spin-offs and TV) but honestly can still find stuff to like in them. E McG's performance is one such highlight - and the droids were grand as normal.
