His whole point is the fans arnt toxic, the output is shit and it gets rightfully critiqued. It's nothing to do with the colour of the person portraying them or whether they're female/male.
Yes there is a loud few but that doesn't make the whole fanbase toxic

No one has ever claimed the entire fan base of any of these shows is toxic, it’s always been a minority. That video of his is stupid.

I’m sure when some of the fans were making racist comments it was purely because of the quality of the show/film and not because they’re racist. What better way to demonstrate that quality is the issue than making a few racist and sexist comments.

I don't think you've watched the video as that's not what he's saying at all. *checking to see i linked the right video. Hes not excusing the racist behaviour etc. That's not acceptable whatever which way. More the general negativity being blamed on "toxic" fans as opposed to just bad film making etc

Nope, it's grifters like these youtubers and blog writers who rely on all this divisive bullshit to get them their ad clicks.

It’s quite clear that’s what he means when he’s talking about diversity. Somewhere around 3/4 of the way through. All the examples in the background are women and/or Asian/black.

SW doesn’t have a toxic fanbase. It just represents society as a whole
There’s like a gazillion SW fans across the globe, even if a tiny percentage are shitty people it’s still a lot of shitty people

Well maybe it's me that's missed the point then haha. I'll have to rewatch it but I saw it as I said above.
Feel that you can't criticise certain characters without being called sexist or racist. Bit like ghostbusters as he mentioned. Was nothing to do with it being all women, it's the fact the film was shit.

Funny how the "reviewers" criticising this particular character on Obi-Wan while maintaining that they are definitely not racist also seemed to be the same ones who seem to also instinctively dislike Burnham on Discovery and new younger Guinan on Picard, isn't it?

Tbf Burnham was fucking awful and easily the worst character on the show, while young Guinan was poorly written and entirely at odds with the way the character had been written previously.

He may make some good points, but I suspect that if I watch that video then my youtube recommendations are going to go all alt-right incel again, like that one time I clicked on a thumbnail for a video about The Last Jedi and it turned out to be some twat ranting about star wars going all woke. Since a lot of us here are SW fans, I don't think anyone is saying the entire fanbase is toxic. But the online youtube-fueled 'star wars fandom' seems to be pretty horrible overall. Worse than many of the other shitty youtube-fueled fandoms. Feel that you can't criticise certain characters without being called sexist or racist. Bit like ghostbusters as he mentioned. Was nothing to do with it being all women, it's the fact the film was shit. Yeah, you could tell that by the way it got review bombed and criticised to hell before it was released.

Every single character is poorly written and forced to do/say things that make no sense. They're crap characters. They'll get singled out because they're black and or female. That's not a toxic fan base, that's a fanbase. As said above it's, unfortunately, representative of humans (men), particularly nerds though tbf.

Especially when they all get together and amplify each other to the point where it all gets taken waaay too seriously.

More the general negativity being blamed on "toxic" fans as opposed to just bad film making etc That's been going on since TLJ at least. There was a point a couple of weeks where people seemed to latch on to the fact that there had been people who'd been racist/sexist in their criticisms of the flim and then because a lot of people take it personally when you don't like a thing they do, you saw a lot of "the only people who don't like TLJ are racists/sexists" etc going around.
Similar situation with the Last of Us 2, a lot of people had legitimate gripes with the game, but because fans in general are very fragile it became impossible to discuss the merits of the game because of the group of people who had been engaging in rampant sexism etc. Anyone with criticisms just got lumped into that group.

Well think we're all largely agreeing, I'll save the debate for what a "toxic" fanbase is for another thread that I won't be part of haha.
Either way, hopefully when the next 3 episodes come out the quality improves.

But it's definitely nerd based.

Is this like when the third Ghostbusters film came out and it was absolutely dreadful as a movie and the characters annoyingly shit, but any criticism was met with "you're just saying that because they're women" which is not the point at all?

The fact that the writing is not brilliant at all points is a convenient foil for a lot of the more 'toxic' fans to get stuck right in with criticism. Criticism that can get racist.

Is that legit? Is Summer Vacation the new Holiday Special? And it amuses me that they're just calling the Taika project, "The Taika Project." I know that's not final, but it needs a better working title than that.
