The film situation is weird.
Johnson and Lucasfilm both say his trilogy is still on the books, but he wants to do his Knives Out sequels first. I'll believe it when I see it though.
The GoT guys' trilogy is off, either they walked or were pushed. I'd read they were split between two projects and had to pick, and so ditched SW.
Rogue Squadron is "indefinitely" postponed. I think Jenkins' next film is WW3.
Both Taika Waititi and Kevin Feige have been announced as developing one-off films but no idea when they'll be happening, if ever.
And this week Damon Lindeloff has been announced as doing a Star War.
... And I'm probably forgetting something too!
I honestly can't remember if there are any SW release dates on Disney's schedule. But if any of these films do actually happen I can't imagine we'll see anything before 2024.

TLJ had some good ideas but it was a frustratingly bad movie. When you think about the big ideas it had, they were pretty cool. I like a lot of the stuff it was trying to do.
But of the three main plots, only the Rey one was actually any good. The casino planet and the galaxies slowest car chase were excruciatingly bad.
It’s biggest crime, though, was that it gave us ROS. All they had to do was make it not boring but instead it wiped out the entire second movie causing it to be three hours of absolute fucking nonsense.

Oh, I missed that the Rogue Squadron was on hold. That seemed to be the only one that was definitely happening. Shame, as that had potential for being actually interesting.
Whatever they do next, I hope it doesn't involve Skywalkers. I don't even really mind it having Jedi, just some new characters completely unrelated to the previous characters please.

It probably makes sense to take a break from movies for a while. then they can come back in a few years with something big and fresh. u I never read the books, but a Rogue Squadron movies sounds like it would be ace. Kinda like Rogue One, but with airplanes. I'd rather have Jenkins do WW3 though.
I did like the idea of the A Star Wars Story one off movies, although they immediately borked it by making the second one about a main character instead of someone new.

Given they’ve got about 15 series coming then they probably don’t need to worry too much about films for a while. Maybe they’ll work out what the film needs to be to feel like an ’event’.

Give David Lynch a shot at doing a star wars film with full creative freedom. It would be the best film ever made guaranteed.

I always figured Mando would get a movie length episode, maybe not a cinematic release but not beyond the realms of possibility.

Isn't there an Old Republic film in the works too? That was what the Gamey Thrones dudes' trilogy was rumoured to be about IIRC.

With regard the movies, I think they realised they make far more money from Disney Plus and with very little risk. Eg, people shat on most of Boba Fett, but they WATCHED it and paid their subscriptions. Solo was a hugely expensive bomb, and “Box Office Bomb” carries additional weight of humiliation than “somewhat weak TV series”. This would have played heavily into changing Kenobi from a film to a TV show. Much lower risk, much greater financial reward that doesn’t need to be shared with cinemas or DVD shops.
I think you could reasonably expect all these loosely announced movies will be either series or telemovies once they are properly detailed. They’ll be wanting an actual cinema release to be something that’s a big deal, and so long as Star Wars is only permitted to eat itself story-wise, nothing they do will be a big deal.
I think they’d make a mint if they totally ripped off Harry Potter and made a Jedi Hogwarts series of movies with nasty old Emperor Who Cannot Be Named variously plotting to resurrect himself. It’d be shit, but think of the Lego sets.

The Ahsoka one is more appealing to me than some of the others because she's got cool white lightsabers.
Oh, you want a better reason than that? Tbh, it's because I never watched the Clone Wars animations, so I know almost nothing about her as a character, so for me at least it's kind of a fresh slate like Mando was. I realise that all the fandom will have watched all those series and have big expectations that have a chance of bogging the whole thing down in Lore and Continuity hell, but hopefully I can avoid a lot of that.
Plus, 2 white lightsabers is badass.

I thought everyone liked him now because of Watchmen? And the answer to your question, of course, is that all his stuff makes millions and millions of dollars.

Something something, millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror... How does that hack still get any work? I thought everyone liked him now because of Watchmen? Isn't The Leftovers meant to be great as well? I've not watched either, but I'm sure both have been very highly acclaimed. Lost had its moments too. Pity his film output has mostly been at best average. His best films normally still have writing as a weak point. He should probably stick with TV.

Didn't he write Star Trek Into Darkness? And Prometheus? If so I'm beginning to see your point.
TBH the weirdness of the SW movies so far means I'd give anyone a go and be equally concerned about whoever made one.
