So I have just given notice on my flat in London and decided to move somewhere a little cheaper and closer to the relatives, as per the thread title Bournemouth is my choice of location.
I used to have a pub there, but that was 20 years ago and I have no idea what the area is like these days, so I thought I would ask you fine chaps to educate me on the town, I assume in between the piss taking etc someone will have some genuine feedback about best areas, areas to avoid, best bars etc.
Currently looking around Winton and Charminster, but anyone know other areas worth checking out?

Aside from familiarity, why Bournemouth? Don't know the area well, but froggie is right, looks a nightmare in the summer.

Bournemouth is great until the summer when every cunt from the south coast piles there and you can't get anywhere. This, Brighton has a similar issue when I lived there. Come the summer you do everything you can to be away. |

Oh it was nothing especially bad, just not enough drugs and I went with someone who I didnt normally go with and barely saw him all night. It was unusually subdued in there that night as well and it just made for a really flat night. Every other night there was great though.
Being in several clubs the night they were raided were far worse experiences though, especially when someone decided my water bottle was going to be where they dumped their drugs. Wasn't in a great way that night.

Also how does one go about looking for a flatmate as an adult? I don't want to spend more than a grand a month or so on rent and there are some nice one beds around in budget. But for 1400 you can get a 3 bed so I could take 2 rooms (one as an office as I work from home) and let someone else take the other.
At 25 or in London this is easy as I know people etc. But genuinely how does one find shares these days? Spareroom.com etc all seem aimed at the youth market etc.

I don’t like dissing people but my only dealings with people from Bournemouth is one of my colleagues. Voted Brexit, votes Conservative, thinks Farage is amazing, describes other colleagues as “coloured” and says “I’m not racist but…” quite often
Other than that he’s a really nice chap

I know nothing about Bournemouth, but last time I was looking for digs I used spareroom.com. I was in my 40s. I ended up with people a lot younger than me (as that's the people who are looking to share a room) but they were okay and it served its purpose for a few months.

I can't wait to jump on my motorbike and start exploring. Traffic doesn't matter on the bike, and only 30 minutes away. |

Don't go near Boscombe or anywhere near the centre of town unless you're a big fan of junkies and stag do's. The A31 and A338 turn into carparks in the summer. Southborne and Winton are OK.

Check out Southbourne. Charminster and Winton are student central now I believe.
I say all this but I never really go out so take what you will from that.

I have nothing useful to add, as I lived there about 20 years ago, and only for a year. I just wanted to join in.  I don't remember the rammed beach being too much of an issue, as I tended to go down there in the evenings, and I guess I often went back to my hometown in summer so maybe I just missed it. I remember it being weirdly split between young people (uni students and clubbers from london) and retired people, which no-one middle aged. What was the name of the nightclub where all the premier league footballers and their girlfriend used to go? I spent most of my time going to the road that had a couple of cinemas next to each other, and skating along the sea front. |

The train to London takes a bit long, but there are two airports nearby.
In the summer it seems half the planet go there to learn English, which gives it a bit more of a cosmopolitan vibe.
Boscombe is on the verge of gentrification! It has massive Victorian houses and investment.
