Jesus, 7?! People would slit their wrists over a 7. I mean, if I recall correctly, EG gave the first Horizon a 7 and comments would not let them live that down for a few years. I'm sure they'll give this one a nice old Recommended so that doesn't happen again.

Currently sitting at 88 on Opencritic, after 75 reviews. Seems solid, but it was never not going to be.

Well, the reviews are out. How many 10s are there? Who will be first against the wall? Is it an ESENTIAL from Eurogamer?! It is not... IT'S NOT EVEN A RECOMEDED

Quite funny seeing EG's no recommendy on the list in between some pretty positive scores on opencritic. I think Malindy is the EG reviewer I most consistently disagree with, so I'll probably love this.
IGN 9 / 10 Eurogamer No Recommendation GamesRadar+ 4.5 / 5 Metro GameCentral 8 / 10 Game Informer 9.3 / 10 GameSpot 8 / 10 Destructoid 8.5 / 10 Game Revolution 9 / 10

To be fair, this always had "high 8" written all over it I reckon.

Sounds like a lot more of the same, but prettier. Which sticks it on the wait for a decent sale pile.

Well despite one or two bugs ACG likes it so that'll do for me.

Skill-Up is also full of praise for it, despite having criticisms too.
One of which is that it really requires the player having played the first game, and it sounds like you'd be better served having played it recently. The sequel picks up almost exactly where the first leaves of, and references a lot of the events that occurred. Skill-Up mentions that he played the original 2 years ago and was still confused about a lot of what was being spoken of.

Just wait until he plays it in Performance (60fps) and sees the dynamic res producing grainy looking assets and pop-in.... Will look awful on his giant OLED that normal people can't afford.

I can't bring myself to play the first one again (even though I did enjoy it a lot) and I never got to the expansion, so I've just watched this: Pretty good actually, and I'll take 20 minutes over 40 hours or so!

The DLC is also a fair chunk of story. Dunno how vital it will prove to the plot but it dumps a lot of info.

The DLC is the bit that I haven't played, despite owning for years. I always intended to do a complete playthrough before the sequel but haven't.

I fired the game up again to do the DLC, but I've got so many parts, suits, weapons, skills ready to go, and so many high level enemies to fight, I can't be bothered jumping back in without that muscle memory. I think I might do the DLC after the new one, if I have any appetite for it left.
The basic DLC plot is also in the Gamespot video, at the end.

HOW HAS EVERYONE FORGOTTEN 8/10 UNCHARTED 3-GATE?! I have indeed forgotten it (never knew?) but Uncharted has been on a decline since the second game, so it seems reasonable. Yeah I went there.

Hmmm. Strongly disagree, lost legacy is my favourite of the series.

Didn’t get 10’s. Closing this thread.
Although ACG is one of the few top reviewers out there. Most others are either woke or trying to be controversial for clicks.
P.S some of you guys are too sensitive. No I’m not Fuzzy whatever.

Hmmm. Strongly disagree, lost legacy is my favourite of the series. Ah, to be fair I forgot about Lost Legacy. I did start it, but just couldn't muster any great interest - still burnt out on U4, which I never finished because it is apparently infinitely long. I read the Eurogamer review for Forbidden West and it mostly sounds like reasonable criticisms. Personally I would lump it under the 'it's not Elden Ring' umbrella. I'll probably pick it up cheap in about 2 years when the price becomes vaguely sensible.

Looking back at Uncharted, I oddly still prefer the first game. The sequel was amazing as a spectacle, but shit the bed in the final third. The third game was actually very solid, but by that point the formula was waning for me. The fourth game overstayed its welcome by about a million hours. Lost Legacy - IMHO - was the perfect distillation of all that was good about the prior four games.
As for Horizon 2: sequel to a fairly generic open world game in 7-8/10 shocker. Movie at 11, etc. etc.

All of the uncharted games were too long. The one where you’re chasing his brother about has about eight different places where the story should have ended but it just kept lurching onwards.

It's Naughty Dog's MO at this point. TLoU 2 was the culmination of their dedication to Return of the King syndrome. I thought for all the world it was about to end about 16 hours before it actually, finally did. and then again 8 hours before the end just for good measure.

I am critical of the EG review but not because I feel like this game demands high review scores. As others have mentioned, the first one was a 7.5-8 really. Its just clear she suffers from game journalism syndrome where they have to rush through a game and therefore play on easy and don't engage with any side content and systems till after the main story. The second halve of the review also was a bloated mess in dire need of editting. Way too much emphasis on small elements while others could have used more time. Also found it laughable she found time to complain about Zulu face paint and lack of strong female characters in this game. Clearly its never enough for this reviewer based on her old reviews.
I think Skill-Up review is a bit well strange in some ways, it sounds like the activities are great and improved, combat is slightly improved, main story is pacing and quality is far worse while side stories are much better. I mean he starts with 9.5 out if 10 but his end of the video makes me really feel its 7-8/10 all over again.
Will buy it when it goes on discount, there is just simply too many good games coming out the next 3 months (Gran turismo 7, Triangle Strategy, Warhammer Total war 3, God of War and well most importantly, Elden Ring).

I thought EG was absolutely bang on for the original game. Until the story finally got interesting half way through I thought it was incredibly mediocre.

I wish I could be arsed just doing the bare minimum and beating the story of the original as an entry point to this but every time I think about doing it I couldn't be less enthusiastic. It just bored me so much.

I got it (the original, for clarity's sake) on super sale for like £7.99 including the DLC (which I didn't play) and I'm not remotely interested in going back to it.
I might get the new one when it's cheap, too.
