Being chased and thought out was a good idea to run into a forsaken store. Limbs. Everywhere. Yours, or theirs?

Ah I fucking got it didn't I ffs. Reading Sifu reviews convinced me to wait for a sale on that one and get this now. Managed to get it for 41 quid which isn't too bad.

Much depth to this, from a plot perspective? I don't know how far in I am - I have the feeling the next map will be unlocked soon-ish - but I'd say: not really, but it's okay. So far it's reliant on a MacGuffin driving the plot forward. And that goes on, and on, and on - and involves some implausible crap re: the faction dimension. But it's perfectly fine. It does the job and isn't anywhere near as awful as some reviews suggested. And the faction element does result in some intrigue and tricky decision-making. The gameplay and the whole loop, including upgrades to trees and to stats, is just hugely addictive. I'm really enjoying it. I'm guessing I've playing about 15-20 hours so far (family, what family?).

Gotta admit, people's actual experience with the game is making it far more tempting than the number of reviews mentioning bugs. Sounds like a day 1 patch fixes alot of the issues?
Also sounds really exciting.
Can you play this one having not played the first? I skipped that due to being zombied out with the dead island games.

Yeah, there’s nothing really connecting the two, and the story is gash anyway.

Everything you need to know about the first one is summed up in the first 30 seconds.
Also, because it was mentioned, still no bugs.

I’ve had some sound glitches and cut outs here and there but nothing physics wise. I did lol when I worked out the “THE WORLD CHANGES WITH YOUR DECISIONS” turned out to be a fairly generic “pick to add combat or parkour helping objects in zones”. Not a huge surprise but it’s baffling why they chose to hype that up.

Yeah, weird audio glitches on one mission for me too (56k modem style), which thankfully went away after restarting the game.
Curious to see how differently things play out via the different branches, but not curious enough to play it for 500 hours to find out... By the time I've finished it I'm sure there will be a wealth of summaries on YouTube.

I imagine I'll get a decent 20-30 hours out of this, then put it down and forget about it forever. It feels like that kind of game.
Which is fine! But it's something I'm happy to wait for; I've gotten a lot better at avoiding hype these days.

This game has made me realise my PC monitor has piss poor black levels. I can barely see fuck all in the indoor environments at night without the gamma wacked way up. Enjoying the game so far though.

😎 there is definitely more than that to it (although not necessarily often). One of the reviewers said he made a decision and the next time he returned to the area, the people in that area had all turned into Zombies.

Honestly reminds me of Fuzzy minus the gypsy hate. I still chuckle at his Streets of Rage 4 turnaround. From best scrolling beat em up in years, to wanting to burn down the devs house and murder their families.

So, played some until about 1am last night, liking it as much as the first one so.
Story seems bobbins again, but game is good.

😎 there is definitely more than that to it (although not necessarily often). One of the reviewers said he made a decision and the next time he returned to the area, the people in that area had all turned into Zombies. I had an odd experience. There was some early side quest - something about poisoned water or something - and I kept putting off going to the shopkeeper you were supposed to visit. Later I noticed the quest had disappeared from my list, but the location was still on the map (albeit not selectable, a glitch, I guess). I went there, had to climb through the roof down to the ground floor, killed 2 or 3 standard zombies and there was one left standing by the door - just staring at me. Whacking it did nothing. It just creepily kept looking. Looked like an NPC that had turned. I don't quite know what to make of it (largely as I don't know how the quest panned out), but it could be a botched attempt at dynamic story-telling, I was too late, NPC turned etc. etc. At least I'll always have creepy staring invulnerable immobile zombie to visit whenever I feel like it.

Ha, I had that last night but not at that mission. Killed a zombie and he stood up just glaring at me. Spooky bastard.

Funnily enough after me saying I hadn't noticed any bugs, I did start noticing other things last night, but more in the "minor glitch" category. Think they're getting worked on for this week though.
Standing up zombie - they do mention working on this kind of thing, as well as impriving physics etc as they're deffo not as good as the first game (yet). "blinking effect" on PS5 - it's an irregular flicker that seems to happen once in a while. R3 survivor sense not working all the time.
Early days yet for a game like this and seeing the support Dying Light continued to get right up until recently, I know everything and more will get sorted. It's all super minor for me so far but we'll see.
One thing I'm curious about is weather effects, are there any? I've not seen any yet. I'd love some rain. In fact, I'd love a lot of rain.

They're aware of the PS5 flickering screen and it's being updated this week I think and yeah I've seen some glitchy zombies like a Howler being visible but not actually physically in the game. No weather effects unfortunately. Tbf they supported the original game for aaaaaaages so you never what will happen with this game.

Are they ever going to bump up the original to 60fps on PS5? I heard they were still planning that.

Really enjoying this. I like that sense of being at ground level, everything's quiet, you're just checking stuff out - but there's that sense of threat, that you can't just hang around down there for as long as you like. The first DL had that same uneasy feeling. It's a rare thing in open world games - they're usually either (a) everything's happening or (b) nothing's happening.

😎 they've been working on it for a while. No idea if it's still a thing though. You'd expect before DL2 to be the perfect time to release it if they were ever going to...

Always start to panic if I'm lockpicking something like a vehicle at ground level. I know I've killed everything nearby but surely it's only a matter of time before something lurches over...

Balancing between this and SIFU is so fucking nice.
What a good combo these two games make. Very different to one another, totally unique feel.
DL2 is so deep and rich. I’m still slightly baffled as to how and why journalists rated this lower than 8, or even 9.

Kind of lame how once you get ranged weapons you can cheese anomalies ridiculously easy. There’s also a couple of map spots where you can just farm chases, alert a howler, sit in UV and swing away.

I’m still slightly baffled as to how and why journalists rated this lower than 8, or even 9. It was 1080p-gate. There's an agreement amongst serious reviewers that anything running under native 4K gets docked 2 points minimum. The inverse is true on Switch, where running sub-1080p is actually rewarded.

They probably weren't playing it on massive OLED TVs, because not many people can afford those.

My main gripe so far is I definitely preferred Harrans first map to this one. Felt a lot more varied. This one is basically all on the same level, with identical areas copy and pasted throughout. I keep reaching certain parts, thinking I must be at one particular point of the map and discovering I'm elsewhere. All open world games do this of course but for some reason feels very obvious here.
Still love it mind.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to finally getting to the next map with the skyscrapers, whenever that happens. Or for that matter getting the metro system unlocked.
I just did a side mission located in an underground car park - that was tense and a nice change of pace. Also, rescued some underpants from the top of the Bazaar. I am really enjoying the side quests.
I'm also gutted that my Artifact Long Axe (with fire, shock and durability mods) is nearing the end of its service. It has cleaved through many a zombie, and staggered many a bandit.
