I think they banked a lot on the parkour being more of a hook than it was. I have it installed still so I might get it updated and test it out.

It's still amazing that it wasn't as good as the game they released years beforehand. Dying Light 1 is so much better it's not even funny.

It's still amazing that it wasn't as good as the game they released years beforehand. Dying Light 1 is so much better it's not even funny. True that. The key issue for me - and we may have discussed this earlier on - was the way the sequel ditched the volatile night-time mechanic. Sure, volatiles were around, and sure there were more dangerous things at night but in the original going out at night was absolutely bloody terrifying! It just wasn't the same in DL2, and a lot of the tension was sucked from the game as a result. I still like the sequel more than most folk do, though.

Yeah the night time went from being legit terrifying to just, well, a complete non-event. I recall standing there with a basic weapon just twatting dead cunts until the sun came up. If you tried that in the first one you'd have five new arseholes in a couple of minutes.
It IS better. Night is actually dark now they've added in an option for it, and there's more of a threat. We're still not there yet though. Seemingly next month or just after we're getting a volatile update and I think only then will it go back to being properly pant filling.
It's so weird. New game comes out missing half of the basic features of an earlier iteration, only for the devs to then slowly add it back in over time. Doesn't take a genius to see DL2 had a hell of a troubled dev though, and it shows. Can't fault Techland for post-launch support though, but it's just a shame the original set such a high mark that it's taking them over a year to step back up to it.

If night is so troublesome whats the point of ever playing at night? Dont you then pretty much have to skip it unless you are forced to do it?
But then when i played it we just run away to safety. Nothing else to do

Risk / reward - as I recall, the original would give you double XP for combat and parkour at night. I can't remember what DL2 does (which I obviously played more recently..telling).
Also, it was genuinely exciting rather than troublesome if you ended up coming back to a safe house late, your watch beeped and the volatiles came out before you got to safety.
What I can't remember is if there were any missions specifically set at night.

I think there were.
But night was only tense at the start of the game. Once you knew how to tackle it, and became more upgraded, it was essentially just a colour filter.

Aye, as you progressed night became much more manageable. The volatiles were still quite tough, but you had some toys to help deal with them or distract them, the regular zombie schmos although a bit tougher at night would just get booted/beaten as per.

Yes, definitely true that the terror and challenge faded as you levelled and got better gear. Though I remember that being at least a good few hours in.
Anyway, for my sins, I have re-downloaded DL2; they do seem to have added quite a bit since I last played.

This is currently having a free weekend on Steam. Picked it up. Quite like it so far. Never played the first one.

Now that I got into the open world, being low level and not many skills makes the game a chore. They really didn't bother (or can't see the problem) to fix the slow progress at the start
