They don't. And I agree with you.
Weirdly I'm never really a fan of seeing your body / arms etc in first person games. Maybe it's because I was brought up playing games that you were just floating eyeballs with a gun, but I can't get used to it.

Don't think running looked like that in DL1 did it? I really liked that game. Still tempted by this.

I honestly can't remember, and I only played it a few weeks ago. Maybe I just got used to it. I don't think I'll notice here after an hour or so either.
Me too. It was the parkour that did it for me. It was so much fun. I loved how at the start it was terrifying just trying to get around, and later on you're zipping about the place not giving a shit. Much like I've read for this one. Except it was seen as a bad thing, which is odd. I don't particularly want an entire game of slowly creeping around a massive open world. It's good like it's that at the start, but later on you WANT to feel empowered.
Hell, I was smashing volatiles' faces in by the end of the first one.

No u! I've gone the dodgy Argentina key route on this. Just hoping it arrives at some point before launch so that I can preload (no sign of it in the Xbox app yet to try that trick)

Apparently my TGC order shipped pretty much when I placed the order yesterday, so it may even turn up today. At the very least I'll definitely have it tomorrow which is fine, especially as the wife is going out tomorrow night. I wouldn't have chance to play it today anyway with all the other shit I want to do first.

Hmmm, I think the criticism is from the idea that they want to feel powerful but still want a challenge after hour X. I suppose it depends on the genre because RPGs get lambasted if you're not destroying all your enemies by level 50. I don't know man, opinions eh.

They specifically mentioned the zombies though, not the volatiles or the other special enemies. I think they still give you a challenge regardless, right up until the end. That's how the first worked anyway.
I'm honestly not fussed though. I do genuinely feel as though I know what I'm in for, and I'm perfectly fine with that. I'm certainly not one of those people that overlook faults etc, but I do know what's for me.

Skill up and ACG reviews are positive. Wasn’t on my radar at all despite loving the first one. I should have the will power to hold off until a sale but good to know it’s gonna be fun.

I was thinking about doing the same thing as I wanted to save a few pennies with needing to buy two codes so both me and my partner can play coop together. Unless only one code works with me buying it on my parthers console set as my home one then with me being on the other.... anyhow, would be cool to know either way! Thanks!

Haven't received it yet, but it can be any time before launch (hopefully not after it) I've only tried it once before and that wasn't for a preorder, but had absolutely no issues with it then.

This is £5 more on Xbox than PS5 if you buy digitally. That's unusual isn't it? Was tempted to get this with a bunch of MS Rewards points.

Drank wine. Bought game.
I’m so crap.
Pleasantly surprised it looks a lot better in Performance mode than I was expecting.

I have almost no time to play this before Sifu on Tuesday, which I want to play before Horizon. Yet I'm still on the verge of buying it now.

It's showing up in the Xbox app now if you search for dying (but doesn't if you search for dying light)
Preloading it while I wait for the code to arrive.

Word of warning for anyone hoping to jump straight into co-op, the prologue took me 2+ hours to get through last night until free roam and co-op opened up. Admittedly that's looking around a fair bit and watching everything, but worth noting if you're hoping to dive right in with a mate.
Enjoying the game, night time is still ridiculously tense at times. Story telling has been excellent so far as well, thoroughly into it.

My definitive take after playing for 5 minutes (literally all I had time for, was just checking it was all ready to go for tonight, really):
I did not find or swing a weapon. Or see a zombie. I did, though, gather some honey and a plant to craft a medkit. Gathering mechanic: A+.
In all seriousness, it looks fantastic and movement / mantling felt great. I'm pretty damn confident those who loved the first will love this (myself included).

They’ve added a lot of unnecessary faff to this.
The stamina bar that drains 5 seconds after your puny arms have to extend for something, the infection meter that gives you about 2 mins at night to do something before you have to dash for a UV light, the constant spamming of the Batman vision you have to do to seemingly even be able to interact with some items. It’s a bit balls on that front.
The writing is quite something, too.
On the plus side, it looks nice, the parkour is decent (tiny stamina bar aside) and combat seems a lot smoother than the first one. The City is also a pretty cool open world location.

I imagine, like the first, you'll be able to level all that shit up so it's not an issue any more? I recall you having fuck all stamina at the start of that game as well.

Yeah apparently *everything* is on a skill tree, so it takes quite a while before you can do much of anything for very long.

You had a laughable amount of stamina and could barely do anything. I think people have forgotten what the early game of the first one was like.

That was what made it so bloody terrifying at the start as you could barely escape the zombies.

The first was about the same, i didn't venture out at night for a while of levelling made it slightly more survivable!
I need to stop reading this thread, or i'll be buying this too, when I have loads of end of last year games to play/finish and elden ring on the horizon too.
Must resist until nearer summer...

But then it will be too light outside to play a zombie game!

Yeah, that's what prompted me to get it now instead of waiting funnily enough. Definitely one to play with the lights off and headphones on!

I don’t recall there being any limit to what you could climb in the first game or how long you could spend out at night.

Edit: wunty Don't you start twisting my arm- just because you can't resist buying many a game! :-) I have to make everyone as weak as me, it's the only way I can subsequently justify my impulse buys.
