I thought with the cost of living increases and how people are worrying about managing, it might be a good idea to have a thread to pass on saving ideas that you have come across.
For instance, I use Lebara for the mobiles that we have. I pay £5 a month (1 month contract), SIM only for unlimited calls and text and 2-4GB data (depends on the offer they were doing at the time). I went from ~£20 a month with one phone to about the same for 4.
I saved a bit more on the cost by using a link from MoneySupermarket which had a better deal than the main site. I've not had any problems with them to date.

Use the same tea bag for all your drinks for that day.

Don't get married or have kids. Amen to that one Oh and I know its mocked a bit, but a Hot Deal's UK account saved me a lot of money. I just put in alerts for the things I wanted (dull stuff like socks and pants) and checked what they recommended and ended up saving 50-90% on the things. I'd also consider a TopCashBack account when buying things as you can often get money back. I used to have one in the days when I actually still bought things And I know most people will know the majority of the tips (the tea bag one was a new one and.... one I'm not yet ready for), but they might help someone.

Eco mode on your washing machines, y'all. Takes an age, but uses a lot less energy.

I resisted loyalty cards for a long time. One reason was, when the original Mrs. EMarkM was alive, we genuinely did get to that "comfortably off" position (no children, inexpensive tastes) where we could afford to turn our backs on the regular supermarkets. We shopped at local farms, Co-op stores and the like.
One thing that stopped me from using loyalty cards was a story I read in the news regarding a chap who was going through a divorce, and his wife's solicitor somehow managed to get his Tesco loyalty card data, and thereby proved that he treated himself to the odd bottle of really nice wine, and should therefore pay her more money. The story may have been apocryphal or inaccurately reported (or remembered), who knows? But it put me off.
Fast forward to my new life and things have changed. We're still financially sound, but we do take pleasure in hunting down deals, getting discounts, using the cashback credit card for EVERYTHING we can. I'm dedicating myself more to the MS Rewards programme this year so I don't really have to spend much money on my video gaming.
We do shop around for tariffs, and the recent credit card story regarding Amazon made us take a look at just where we buy things from and what better deals might be had elsewhere.
Remember my first rule of economics and physics? There's no such thing as a free lunch. So, yes, loyalty cards that give you a discount later really do mean that the retailer has held onto "your" money for a bit longer, rather than just giving it back to you straightaway, but it's the current system and savings can be made.
We also fill in the McDonald's surveys every month for some vouchers, and so on and so forth. We get extra discounts from O2, Vodafone and our AA membership too.
I've finally come 'round to the idea that it is worth spending my time looking for deals and taking advantage of offers.

A mcdonalds double cheeseburger costs half the price of a quarter pounder with cheese, with the same meat content by weight, and freshly cooked burgers.

Youtube premium via India is much cheaper (<£2 for a family membership), but you have to cope with chart and new recommendations from the sub-continent.

Don't get married or have kids. Don't have kids for sure, and don't piss away money on an expensive wedding, but "don't get married" is a shitty money saving tip. Two incomes combined with shared expenses = a wealth of savings opportunities.

If you hang around the docks long enough, sailors will give you money to do things. It's a life hack I wasn't aware of and comes in really handy when you need a bit of extra room in your budget.

Or more importantly, why are quarter pounder burgers not freshly cooked? Or do you just mean more recently due to higher turnover? I must know.

The annual fee of owning an Amex seems high but they more than pay for themselves. Just saved about £4.5k on some flight tickets. Got a £100 statement credit when I bought a monitor. Also their customer service in general is incredible.

If you're spending enough on flights that you make a £4.5k saving, you probably don't need to worry too much.

If you're spending enough on flights that you make a £4.5k saving, you probably don't need to worry too much. We wouldn't normally cos we can't afford to. But in 5 years of using an Amex for everything and taking advantage of the promo offers we've managed to accumulate 300k Avios. And each year a perk of the card is a BA companion voucher, a free ticket on the same class as a flight you book with points. Return in Business to San Francisco was 125k points plus £600 tax, which is cheaper than an economy ticket, then we get an extra free ticket with the voucher. Cash price of two tickets is around £5,800. And we still have 175k points and another companion voucher left so we're going to use them for Japan next year.

What the hell kind of money saving advice is this when you could have just had a caravan holiday in Bournemouth?

Hard to believe a washing machine running for 3-4 hours uses less power than one hour. It does also use less water. I don't quite understand it, but it's something to do with allowing the water to heat up more slowly (hence the longer cycle time) using less energy. Sometimes 40% less energy. We use the delay to make it finish when we wake up, which helps. Same principle applies to the dishwasher as well. If you can set timers etc then worth the extra time, and results are normally good as well.

Nanocrystal it's a way to save a substantial amount of money on a thing, and is therefore money saving advice. I'm not sure where the acceptable levels of saving advice is, the scope between "live in a box, only eat store brand corn flakes from the box with your hands and change your clothes monthly" and "charter a jet each time, it's cheaper than buying one" is quite wide.

I haven't ever even looked at the offers on my basic cashback amex card... Probably should!
The cashback alone is pretty great. I use it everywhere I can. Linked to PayPal/Amazon etc, gets used for weekly shops.
Save money on expensive vibrators by trapping some angry wasps in a cigar tube.

The reason I'll never get an Amex card is 'coz I don't want to be that guy in the restaurant that says "Do you take American Express?"

People like to do ridiculous stuff for saving money, like taking the 50 cents cheaper beans, instead of checking what they actually spend money on, and then cut down on the biggest expenses.
I know a guy who bought the cheapest tooth paste, soap, etc. he could find, but bought a pack of smokes every day and drove to work every day less than 2 km.
