Yeah, we got the same email and are similarly in credit. It is a problem that seems to have taken care of itself, though. Our boiler just died, so no expensive water heating for us. Just managed to get ours replaced in the summer. Was at least 25 years old and was teetering on the brink. Hoping a new, more efficient boiler with a central thermostat will help keep things manageable.

Maybe good news. Google told me that this old boiler is pretty bulletproof and its likely the main circuit board. The University of Youtube showed me how to get it out and, yeah, it looks like some solder has broken down, so I have ordered a refurb for 50 quid from a plumbing supply place to get here tomorrow.
If that actually works, its the single most butch thing Ive done this year.

I got an email to say my bill was going up by 50 quid but thanks to the 400 rebate thing my direct debit is going down by £20. Liz has saved us all.

If it's a warm shower you are after I may be able to help. Bring me 2 litres of evian and be prepared to wait 30 minutes and I will sort you out.

If it isn't that I was having problems with mine last year and it was going to cost a fortune to fix. Someone recommended I sign up for the British Gas yearly cover thing for 25 quid a month which gives you the first fix free. They ended up pretty much Trigger's brooming the thing and the only thing that remains is the shell.

They exempt boilers over a certain age though I think. New boilers now come with a 10 year guarantee which also helps in the medium term.

Im not really a cover person. I'd rather just shell out for something than give BG 300 quid a year in perpetuity.
EDIT: and what dougs said. This is the OG boiler that came with the house, so is likely to be getting on for 20 years old.

I'm not generally a cover person either, unless I have to (eg, Car Insurance), but BG Homecare is actually pretty good value.
Besides, the £300 is about the cost of a drain callout and unblocking so you only have to use it occasionally for it to be worthwhile and you get a free boiler service yearly. They did a flush and everything on ours, which we'd been quoted £220 for.

Yeah it would have cost a hell of a lot more than the 300 to fix by the time they had finished.

We’re supposed to have been getting a new boiler fitted for the past 2 months, but the guy keep postponing as he can’t actually source one. Apparently boiler suppliers can’t keep up with demand.
Big Boiler in cahoots with Big Power.

Bank of England says we're already in recession as it expects this quarter to be negative as well.
What now Liz?

I’ve decided to stop paying taxes, my previous arrangements were with Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs, if this new so-called His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs wishes to strike a deal with me they will have to fill out the relevant application forms

Big Boiler in cahoots with Big Power. Yeah, I wanted a Worcester Bosch (as my plumber nephew recommended as they are easy and cheaper to repair) but couldn't get one so ended up with a Vaillant again. Seems fine, although the smart app is shit.

Given I ain't getting any younger, extending the term isn't going to help either. Would overpay but things are a wee bit tight as it is.

I'm in a similar boat. I'm down to 21k left and I'm overpaying that. Though saying that, I can't afford to overpay this month because of other bills. Which hopefully are one-offs.

Unfortunately I have a bit more than that left. Plan was always to use the lump sum I'll get at 60 to pay it off but I don't think that'll be enough now.

Still have 100k+ left ony my mortgage, only been here for about 4 years.
Luckily we got a 5 year deal last year but once that's over it's going to be anyone's guess.

Yeah I overpaid loads last year and was looking to his year but losing one of my jobs and being off sick almost 2 months in the other has fucked that. Almost had enough to pay 10k off it but then got hammered with 9k in unexpected costs in the last couple of months.
Absolutely fucked off with all of it to be honest.

I think I've got around 78-80k to pay off over 20 years. Only 4 years in. Looking at either putting either £100-200 per month at it for a bit or just whack a few grand into a fixed savings account at 3.5% and put savings away. Unsure at the mo.
Still sticking with my plan to go into semi retirement around 50, though.
