The grass roots of a general strike are starting. This is crazy that they think that there's nothing they can do.

All they need to do is just tell the companies not to make obscene profits for a bit. If they just went "boom, £200 a month through winter", they're still making shitloads and Tories come out looking like heroes.
I am 100% getting solar in the next month

Om fortunate enough to have very reasonable energy bills. Around £50 - £60 a month for combined gas and electricity.
I can't really fathom how it's going to work charging families these huge bills.
It's not a case of budgeting, it's simply not affordable. It will be a bigger cost than mortgage or rent in some situations
So you'll have big chunk of the population not paying bills and being cut off?
With Centrica making over a billion in profits clearly there are steps energy companies need to take to absorb the cost and deliver to their customers over and above paying fucking shareholders.
It's in their interests longer term as if it reaches an unsustainable level the decisions made will be out of their hands.

I bet the calculation they're making right now is how many customers can die before it eats significantly into their profits.

Pensioners and single people can die in their freezing flats and it'll get headlines locally.
You get a family with a few kids freezing to death because they can't pay bills and that's a global headline and a scandal.
The kind of scandal that destroys governments. Even one as entrenched and shitty as the current trash.
That sort of thing can circumvent all the processes and bullshit and initiative huge policy change such as nationalisation.

Clearly not if they can't even be arsed to disturb their precious little recess with a cobra meeting. Fuckers should've all been recalled by now.

I'm glad to see that the PM and the Chancellor have been out and about, working hard to alay public fears about this energy crisis.
Oh, wait.

For all intents and purposes, we don't have a working government right now. Boris is just not there and tbf I can see him not wanting to come straight back.
Sunak isn't chancellor anymore because he wants to be leader, which he won't be and he knows that. He also won't be chancellor come September for obvious reasons. He COULD play the long game and set some stuff up now to sort people out, which Liz will look like an utter cunt if she undoes. Then Rishi gets the plaudits.

Even these Tory idiots must see the iceberg looming. You would have thought so but they seem preoccupied with what’s in peoples pants and the pretend migrant ‘crisis’

Slight correction, he hasn't been Chancellor for a few months. Our current Chancellor has disappeared.

Nadhim Zahawi was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer on 5 July 2022.
Yeah he hasn't been seen since.

It's ok guys nothing to fret over, that 350m quid we used to send to the EU each week can help us with these energy bills. Crisis averted!

Was feeling a bit smug as we had £1700 credit with Octopus...then noticed they hadn't charged us for electricity since December....we now have £350 credit....

I bet the calculation they're making right now is how many customers can die before it eats significantly into their profits. That's actually kind of true, but the calculation is how many people do they think will stop paying their bills and bring a loss in comparison to how many will pay the new extortionate costs. Obviously at the moment they have calculated they will make more money out of the people who will keep on paying so everybody else is collateral damage.

The fact I've seen statements go out that say "don't refuse to pay a bill" says they're worried about it

It's a pretty fucking silly idea in fairness, unless you don't care about your credit rating.
Would be impressive to watch the shitshow if they do somehow manage to get a million people to do it or whatever it is they're aiming for...

Has a single bin been set on fire in protest yet, over months and months of near everyone getting royally fucked in the ass while the leech class laughs in your faces LOADSAMONEY ?

It's only a silly idea if you are solvent enough to not have to choose between which life-essential bill you are able to pay. People are going to be forced to make horrible decisions and credit-rating worries are going to be low on the list. That's a can to kick down the road.

We laugh at the French going on strike over everything and burning tyres, but they will be fucking kidnapping EDF bosses when their protection from this melts away.
Note: the French have a noble tradition of holding bosses to ransom, literally.

Yes, they'll still get kidnapped. The French will only artificially sustain the cap for so long.
Macron knows what will happen though, the banlieues will be alight.

Seems likely that the deciders in the leech class have calculated that they will steal as much money as possible from people. Push thirds right to the edge of civil unrest. Someone will finally set a bin on fire, maybe even push it over. The police will lock that city down for days, the government will swoop in and demand a new cap on prices, which will be set way higher than previous, people will grumble but settle back down into compliant little consumers and the leeches will never figure out how to spend a tiny fraction of the billions they stole in the preceding twelve months.
Soon everyone will be bitching about how awful the World Cup is as it’s mentioned the price cap is going to be phased out in a few months…
