The logic was sound bit ofc there's always the flip side. Haven't read the thread but presumably it's the war driving prices even higher? If they did it with good intentions they were incredibly naive. Corporations are as out of control as the Tory party.

War which has pushed wholesale prices through the roof, but we’ve got no storage because the government thought that was too expensive… Once again, our Government shows just how out-of-touch with real life they actually are. You can get hundreds of black bin bags for a fiver in Home Bargains.

If anyone wants some cost saving advice, the DM online has an article asking why we aren’t all making our own butter to save money.
The conclusion is that it’s more expensive than buying butter and would be insane, but they did it in the 50s so it’s great.

Next they'll be telling you to tap your own oil well and distill your own petroleum.

In Spring I noticed our old gas meter was stuck on the same reading. I notified Scottish Power that it needed fixed by online chat only for them to tell me to phone their customer service number instead. I tried this twice and was cut off both times, by them, as the service was "too busy." I then wrote a letter to their HQ, then when I got no response to that I found an email address and emailed them (no response either). I have continued to submit readings when prompted, thinking that it'll surely flag up somewhere and prompt a visit. Our energy bills were always £145-160 before the energy crisis and have now dropped automatically to £104. I will continue to attempt to arrange a gas meter fix/replacement but am seriously wondering how many years I could get away with free gas thanks to SP's crap communication.. Edit: I don't mean to sound smug about the situation, I just think it's perverse My meter stopped working during the lockdown, got in touch with Scottish Power and had a smart meter installed, and they replaced the broken meter at the same time. Might be worth a try if you don't already have a smart meter (I'm assuming not if you are manually submitting readings).

Edit: I don't mean to sound smug about the situation, I just think it's perverse Happened to us when we bought the last house. Gas meter never worked, we reported it, twice the scheduled engineer never showed up. After four years they finally cottoned on to the fact we’d been submitting the same reading forever and fixed it. Because it was their fault they could only backdate the bill six months, and would work that out using an average of the next month, so we got some cheap electric heaters for a month and didn’t use the central. Got four years of free gas. I miss that.

I'd keep a record of all the communication.
It's their responsibility to fix it. Your doing your part by trying to report it.

Maybe your tanks have grown. There was a lady filling up her Merc the other day and it was at £120, I just hope her tank was practically empty.

£65 is a bargain!
I could fill mine for that in the good ole days. Now I'd be looking at £80-90.
I was sat behind a 4x4 in the forecourt the other day and that was about £130 and climbing.

For context the last time I filled it up, I think it was around £1.50 and even that was arse watering. Ah, the good old days of just over a month ago…

I’m usually in the Mum Friendly Family Shifter, which I thoughtfully leave her to fill up.
I do actually want to trade it in for an electric motorbike since I only do low individual miles but have been threatened with divorce if I do.

I just filled up 4/5ths of a tank at £98.00
My phone fell out my pocket and smashed on the forecourt which added injury to insult.

I popped into the one and only Waitrose that still exists for about 100 miles today and have officially accepted it's now too expensive for me to shop there.
Based on how empty it always is now, I think the rest of the locals agree with me. God knows how it makes enough money to keep going, they closed the Nottingham one which was always at least halfway busy.

It appears we let one escape up north again!
We'll have to send Hargreaves to fetch it back.

Some googling tells me I've enough for a reasonable deposit on a buy to let flat in the Sheffield area. I used to be dead against that sort of thing but it's looking like a sensible venture.

Moneyhatted landlords don't need freebie versions.
Next thing you'll be telling me there's no grouse drive on the estate this season, what.
