For shits and giggles I just worked out that the first 6 hours of work I do every week are just to pay for the months electricity.

My old man is bricking it at the moment. Currently his leccy bill runs to 25% of his pension.

I’m planning to top up the prepayment meter as much as I can before end of March…prices won’t update until the first time you stick the card back in apparently. All above board and fine, doesn’t claw back later.
With any luck I might get a couple of months at the ‘cheap’ rate.

Noticed the price changes in Tesco. If you buy similar things each week you become familiar with prices.
A lot of the cheaper items rice/pasta that might be a couple of quid have all an extra 15p - 25p added.
My food bills are pretty low but for families it must be a bitch.

I shop daily (I am bored walking to sainsburys gets me out of the house while I work from home.) Usually pick up some odds and ends, supper and an alcohol free beer or 2. I suddenly realised today I am spending £20 a day. It was 10 or 15 six months ago.

Yep, definitely noticed prices rocketing. 12 cans of dog food for my mum's dog was £7, now £9. Jars of pesto up 50p to £2.50. Tonic water cans up 90p to nearly a fiver. Fresh fruit and veg hasn't had the same big increases but still 10-20p on things.

That's not too bad in fairness, unless you were already on a shit rate. Most people have doubled. Not that it's an insignificant amount at all. Mine is a little more than that and it fucking stings seeing the DD go out. It's just 2 people (plus pets). Time to start bathing in the blood of my enemies and using the lamentations of their women for light I guess

My local has just put the prices up (brewery set so not them tbf). Working out the price rise it's pretty much 11% across the board.

I don't drink so am fairly insulated from prices but covered my mate's round the other day for her birthday. Came close to £15 for two drinks. Unreal.

Has anyone had an inflation related pay rise yet? Our annual pay review isn't till June and the increases for the last few years have been 1% or 0%. I hope they realise that isn't sustainable now!

Happen to notice our local Tesco petrol station has unleaded for £1.66 a litre. I'll continue to fill up at Costco but even that is currently £1.52.

Didn't the BoE say we shouldn't be asking for pay rises? I'm sure a lot of employers will be more than happy to take that advice to heart.

They were hardly going to say to go nuts were they? That said the stupid fuck should have just said he's concerned with a wage push inflation spiral but the art of speaking with tact seems to be lost.

I think so. Nearly 8% with no promotion. I had a good year but I'd guess at least half of that was due to acknowledging inflation. I haven't asked any colleagues yet (I'm a still bit private about that kind of chat despite knowing that it's the best way to make things fair in the workplace).

I'm normally ecstatic to get just something in line with inflation. If that's been the bar in every other year, I don't see why it shouldn't be now, because inflation's seemingly not going anywhere for a good while and I don't have many belts left to tighten.
What's the alternative?

Talk of potential 6% pay raise in my work. Though, I have read that if you don't get a pay raise of at least 7% it is in effect a pay decrease, due to inflation.

We did massive pay rises at my place this year as we are competing in a very small market for really good engineers. Some companies have been paying stupid money for a number of years now, but with inflation on top, this year has been something else.
I also just had my first gas bill based on real usage (since moving in in Jan). Works out at £300 a month but I have no idea if that is good or bad in the general current turmoil. It is for a 3 bed house and ~3700kWh's

Yeah, this. If the public sector get 3% I'd be amazed.

It is for a 3 bed house and ~3700kWh's In my old job they spent most of last year hammering out a 4% payrise for some developers (quite a few but not the old white guys who've been around for years) after years of failing to keep up with the market. Finally came through in January just in time for inflation to be 5-6% so instead of improving moral as planned everyone just went "Oh so my salary has still gone down".

Ours so far is predicted to be a big fat zero with no bonus either (which was only humble in years past but better than a poke in the eye), so this year I'm really going to be much worse off.

Yeah, this. If the public sector get 3% I'd be amazed. I do reckon 3% is possible. Inflation will be at 7+. Certainly for some sectors (front line etc) you will see this.

What the fuck were you trying to add? Most people in other places are dealing with 7% or more inflation, and power bill increases that will put serious pressure on their finances. With likely very limited increases in income. An unironic "poor me I will get 1% instead of 2% inflation" is poor poor taste / reading of the room.
